Another cool trick to find old episode numbers is to go to
archive.org, and then enter
https://www.cbs.com/shows/the_bold_and_the_beautiful/
into the archive.org search,

and then select the month around the time you are researching, and if you are lucky you can do the source-code trick to get the episode number from the URL of the episode cover photo.

I've done this for  Y&R same way
And also for https://abc.com/shows/general-hospital

Great info! Thanks so much @janea4old! I keep an up to date Y&R list, hence my being correct on that one, and now I went back to tinker with my B&B spreadsheet, not updated since 2021

and yes, you're absolutely correct. GH I don't track at all so when Jason asked about the current network shows, I went to imdb.

One day I might pick your brain about the CBS "season" start dates.

Not only am I happy about the videos, but I am impressed that you put them in a red folder, dramatic and reminiscent of Sally Spectra herself

These are quite good and watchable and I'd rather watch it like this with such good picture, so a big thanks to you.

Just so people know, many smart TVs have an option to shift the sound so if the sync bothers you, you can adjust it on your TV. If watching on the computer using VLC player, you may also shift the audio until it is perfect https://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_HowTo/Adjust_audio_delay/

Thanks, so this is now the correct list for BB:

BB (as of 11/3/23):
Possible Airdates: 9555 airdates
Aired: 9141 regular episodes
Full Preemptions: 414 preemptions (includes classic episodes & specially-numbered episodes)

The Nielsen books have those (sometimes the networks start at a different date, like I mentioned happened in September 1990). So, I can eventually help out with those for 1978-1999, but too busy now with the other stuff!

I just wanted to get those math problems done so now we know exactly what's up with all of the 4 current soaps!

So any "A" episodes would fall into the "Full Preemptions: 414 preemptions (includes classic episodes & specially-numbered episodes)" category. Fans of BB, YR, GH, I've provided the full preemptions for 1979-1999 and now I've done the math problems to confirm exactly how many preemptions (or in special cases, insert/A or classic episodes) in total each of your soaps has had.

So that's as far as I can help out in regards to the other soaps. Now, it's up to historians to use these numbers and confirm which of the "full preemptions" was actually an insert ("A") episode or a classic repeat episode.

I'm sure some of you have already done that research, but I hope my Nielsen preemptions confirmation has helped your episode guides some!!

I re-checked the Nielsen data, and on 2/21/92, the Winter Olympics aired from 11AM-130PM, so then BB aired at its regular time of 130PM.

Thanks! I was a bit confused because of that thread, and there was no mention of Feb 17th 1992 Winter Olympics coverage anywhere, but all good.

As for Feb 27th 1991, there is a mention of a preemption in this thread: https://groups.google.com/g/rec.arts.tv.soaps/c/QRTQmhjV8uI/m/XpTG-xip1fkJ

I had Feb 1st 1991 as a preemption. So Episode 966 aired on Jan 31st and not the 30th. And Feb 15th is a confirmed preemption. We now have all of 1991 accounted for.

Final teaser before I find out about the BB preemption or not for 2/27:

It is at least not a regular rated episode...

Please register in order to view this content

And...it did not air on Wed. 2/27.  So, if those two NBA preemptions in March 1991 are correct, then the Episode #s for BB do not line up as of July 1993. One of the "full preemptions" had to have been skipped, or two episodes at one point were edited into one, or they accidentally skipped an episode #?

The mystery begins...

The only thing I noticed was the Apr 19th 1993 preemption you listed. I don't have that one. Time to check Usenet again lol

Found something.

Apparently B&B was preempted on Apr 19th and 20th 1993 on the East Coast. Maybe the episodes aired at a later time?

Everything from usenet, to the official YT page with the episodes definitely all add up accordingly. I suggested maybe they had to either skip 4/19/93 completely and not air it the next day because of messing with the continuity of Lauren/Sheila, or they aired two episodes 4/20/93...or maybe even for the East Coast viewers, on 4/21/93 they aired 3 episodes? the missing two from 4/19-4/20 and of course 4/21/93.

    • Thanks, msn drives me nuts on the one hand but on the other hand their headlines appeal to me. And, I just don't do FoxNews.
    • The link doesn't work.  The actual link is this: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/composer-leonard-bernstein-s-children-request-his-music-be-played-in-the-kennedy-center-in-rebuke-to-trump/ar-AA1E7gw5 That's a reprint of a FoxNews article. MSN reprints stuff from many sources. You can tell the source from the logo above the headline on the msn page. The FoxNews article is describing what Leonard Bernstein's children wrote -- as a "letter to the editor" of the New York Times. Instead of reading it filtered through FoxNews, here is the original: "Our Dad, Leonard Bernstein, Would Want His Music Played at the Kennedy Center" https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/02/opinion/kennedy-center-leonard-bernstein-protest.html Non-paywall archivedcopy of the same NYTimes letter, without commentary: https://archive.is/QaLqD
    • Might be a long shot, because I can't find a thing online about it, but I was Googling the actress that played Nell Cleary (Frank's cop friend that went through academy and then became cops together during the entire Brent Lawrence storyline). To my surprise, she passed away in 2011, at the very young age of 45. I can't find her obituary or anything online about her passing, but I'm curious, does anyone know what happened? Her IMDB only shows a few other acting gigs post-Guiding Light, so she didn't make a career out of it, but I thought she was a great actress in her role as Cleary. Her name was Mary Peterson.
    • What was Ruth Martin's association to the Thornton family?  I only remember the daughter that dated Tad, and she had a buxom mother.  But, did Ruth date David Thorton before Joe?

Why didn't Steve respect Monica and Jeff's decision?  I get he's Jeff's father, and that's how it came out, but I don't like the ethics of the story. A stranger gets to make life or death decisions over a wife's demands?   I hope Monica secretly never forgave Steve's chauvinism.
    • Question: Jon-Michael Reed's review of 1977 is up in the retro soap section.  It includes a fleeting reference to comedic scenes between Jeanne Cooper and Julianna McCarthy regarding “Kay's would-be beau, Ralph the Plumber”.  Could someone please fill me in will more details? I forgot that Kay and Liz were friendly before Jill stole Kay's husband.  And the thought of Liz playing a comedic scene blows my mind, because I only recall her being dour both in demeanor and wardrobe.
    • I said this on Twitter on Friday when Leslie mentioned Chicago, so perhaps she might be related to one of Anita's bandmates. In addition, Leslie did say she grew up listening to The Articulettes too.
    • There was a scene in the past week or two with Leslie looking at some papers and mementos, which included an invitation or souvenir from Alan's memorial service or funeral -- it was dated as November 2024. Me just guessing but it seems to me that Martin's nightmares about the accident are from something longer ago than November.
    • ah thanks! do you know who the third one was in the blonde? the fifth one i know ive seen before in the brown wig but i forgot, and then ive never seen the psychic one before lol
    • I felt for Ted early on but as the story unfolded it has changed my opinion on him. To know he was cheating while his wife was struggling to give him a baby is a lot to deal with. Plus, this happened ages ago and still he's paying Leslie off and threatening her to leave town.  What really caused me to lose him in this episode was how even though he was busted, he still refused to take responsibility and come clean and the way he talked to Martin and Eva was terrible. To tell Smitty he better get Martin away from him when that is his SON who he used to cover up his affair? That is true dog behavior. Ted seems upset he got caught but I'm not seeing the remorse I would need to want Nicole to forgive him. I'm curious how I'll feel after Ted gets to talk to Nicole but I need him to fix it with the rest of the family as well.
