Except this is typical JR. This is how he was last year with Annie as well. Are people forgetting how crappy he treated Scott? IA with EricMontreal22. This behavior is in character for him

I know JR being an ass is typical JR but usually it is at least shown why he's being an ass to someone. I agree that JR hating on Scott is who JR is and quite frankly I do not want Scott and JR to bond and become BFF's for the finale.

JR's animosity towards Scott was explained well last year (Adam chosing Scott over JR for the business, both wanting Annie) while all we get now are drive by scenes between them where JR half-assedly mutters something about Marissa, gives Scott the evil eye while Scott stares at him and roll his eyes.

I would actually be more annoyed if for no real reason he wasn't acting like this. Sorry--not to pick a fight, but it bugs me when a character behaves a way someone personally doesn't like that they suddenly accuse the writers of not writing in character. Admittedly--we have had sooo many bad experiences with characters being written out of character, that I get where it's coming from, but...

No one said the writing is out of character for JR. The problem for me is that there is no writing for JR.

I don't believe anyone's saying he's not being written in character. At least I haven't seen the ignorant and juvenile claims of hacking, whitewashing and propping associated to JR's antics. I just see people lost as to the motivation. All because it's in character for him to be a douchebag, doesn't mean he can be one without motivation and the audience should give him a pass. For instance, it's perfectly within character for Erica to cheat on a man she's involved with... but to this day, for the life of me, I can't understand her motivation for ruining her marriage to Jack over frickin' Jeff Martin?! That reeked of "Let's put Susan together with John James" rather than "Let's give Erica a reason to exhibit this aspect of her character." I think that's what's being called into question here. "What's the point of JR showing his ass?" Is there a reason or are the writers just exploiting this characteristic?

+1

As for JR, he's always been a self-centered douche so his behavior was totally in character but this Marissa thing is just pathetic. Doesn't he have a company to run? Right now JR could disappear from the canvas and I wouldn't notice. The character is just floundering around doing nothing.

I thought the same. Why is JR is even on? It's not like his presence is needed in Scott and Madison's storyline or Bianca and Marissa's storyline.

This JR and Marissa crap is just so painful and pointless to watch and I would assume Minx fans feels the same way.

I think JR's thing has always been that he takes care of #1 first and foremost, and anyone else is secondary. The main exception would be Dixie, because his happiness is almost linked directly to hers. If he can get what he wants without screwing some innocent bystander over, then he'll do it. But if there's gonna be collateral damage, that won't stop him from doing what he feels he has to do. A good example would be the end of the baby switch. He had no major problems with Bianca, but Bianca stood in the way of him having Bess, so he went as far as to keep her from the girl and end up pushing her, intent or no intent, over a balcony rail.

The only time he goes after someone maliciously is when seeing that person suffer/fail/whatever is linked to his own personal satisfaction, which is what a lot of his interaction with Scott is rooted in.

My 2 cents on JR: I think he needs to one-up Scott and he's worried that Scott will be able to win over Marissa if he puts in the effort. What I need to see is why JR even wants Marissa back at this point. It wouldn't be too difficult for the writers to give him one scene where he opens up to someone (Tad, most likely) about how after Annie he's given up on love and just wants his son to have a mother.

Well I can agree that JR adds absolutely nothing to the Minx storyline. He is a very unnecesary third wheel. I think he will be utilized in the Dixie return storyline whenever that kicks off into high gear. That should give him ample material till finale

Intent or not intent.
