In one of Andy Cohen's books, he describes an odd interaction with Wendy's husband.  They had pitched an idea to Andy for a pop culture judge show, he was encouraged, then she never returned his calls.  Until a month later her husband called and said that they didn't want to do business with Andy and they never spoke again.  This was after they had socialized at Anderson's book party and Andy express in the book that it started a one-sided feud.  She never booked either Andy or Anderson on her show again and she never spoke to them.  Later, when Charlemagne was on radioAndy, they both agreed that the only thing holding Wendy back in her career was her husband.  Which is interesting when you consider that she is the only single-hosted daytime talkshow on currently,(other than Ellen which is more of a variety show these days), and she has lasted more than 10 years.

However, I think how she handles this news with her audience is crucial.  The NY Post is already reporting on every side comment she makes on air, and her show has not been live since she filed on Thursday.  So, I think her fans have given her space, but they will expect a statement.  I thought it was very powerful when she was discussing the half-way house and she noted that people may have negative expectations of her housemates, but that she was the face of how addiction can look.  There is potential for her to pull a full-Oprah and change the direction of her show, or she could adjust to try to be just a bit more compassionate.  I know I am compelled to watch it, but I don't know for how long if this experience is not reflected in the kind of entertainment that she wants to make once she is in recovery.

I think she will be quiet about it in the short term. For the time being, she's in litigation with him and whatever she says can be used against her in Court. The interesting thing is that her divorce filing lists the marriage dissolution date as being 6 months ago...when all the sh*t hit the fan and she went to rehab. That's when everything leaked about her husband's mistress and the mistress being pregnant.

Wendy has demonstrated a certain level of wisdom over the years that makes me think that her stay in rehab, and the delays in returning to her show, were part of a bigger plan. Wendy obviously relapsed and had to get herself together, but I am betting that she also knew if she was in rehab she would be away from him, and could formulate a plan because she'd finally been publicly humiliated in a way she couldn't handle or spin. It seems it was the public humiliation that she couldn't take and no matter how allegedly awful he was behind the scenes, she could tolerate it so long as he didn't bring shame upon her publicly. And then he did. It was over.

She and Kelvin (I'm going with Charlemagne on how to say his name) have their business intertwined, so Wendy's choice of divorce lawyer is interesting: she's gone with Blank Rome, a large Philadelphia based international firm that specializes in corporate law and has in house family law counsel. Much of this is going to be about undoing their business relationship. Their son is 19, so it's not like they're going to be fighting about him, and they've been married a long time, so she may still have some lingering feelings for him, regardless of what's gone down.

I think Wendy formulated her exit plan during her rehab and this time in the sober house. The way she served him with divorce papers speaks to this. She hired extra security guards and had him served in front of all their employees in the studio. According to the NY Post her staff are shocked that she actually left him.

No matter how rough she's been on other celebrities over the years, there is no denying that Wendy has been through hell. If the allegations of physical abuse and Kelvin's behaviour are even half true, she is a battered woman and should be applauded for finally gathering the necessary strength to leave an abusive marriage.

She reminds me of Tina Turner. I hope, like Tina, her second act, without him, is a triumph.

The Post said she is writing a book, so I think she will leave most of the story there to be published around the time she returns in the fall.  Especially because there is no Oprah, Barbra Walters, or Diane Sawyer to go to in 2019 for a tell-all interview.  She seems like she wants to control the narrative.

As the complexity of their business, she doesn't work for QVC anymore, and she is not pursuing other productions like when she had her gameshow on GSN,  So it may not be as complex as it once was.  Certainly, this is the end of his career in production; who would give him a reference?

I think it will be a milestone when she allows celebrities, and her audience, to comment on her strength. I remember when Rosie O'Donnell lost 5lbs on her show and every actor commented on her slightly svelter image.  If Wendy allows an actor to say that they are proud of her, it will be an interesting way to acknowledge what is going on.

But my bet is that she has to say something about the divorce on Monday, even if she demurs from details.

You were right @j swift!

And better yet, after her soon to be ex-husband apologized today, Wendy fired him as her manager and executive producer. And then she had the Ferrari his jump off is driving repossessed. And then she told him he has 48 hours to vacate their NJ house.

That's my favorite thing to read.  I'd like to embroider it on a pillow.

I found it interesting that she assumed the audience already knew.  It was so smart to use her relationship with the audience in order to avoid giving more of the story.  She said that she was moving into her own place and everyone on site and at home knew what she meant, and suddenly they're all insiders.

Today she mentioned talking to Charlemagne, which I found interesting.  On the Breakfast Club yesterday, Charlemagne acknowledged that Kevin (or Kelvin as they call him) was responsible for dredging up his prior rape allegations this summer from seventeen years ago.  So, when Wendy mentioned going to dinner with him today she was sending another easily decodable message to her fans about her changing alliances.

She is very clever to stay ahead of the story without divulging anything that would be unappealing to her image.  I think a Breakfast Club Interview would be scintillating, and it is the only venue that would be credible to her fanbase.

I appreciate Charlemagne's point, but I think the Breakfast Club, in general, undermines their credibility when they use homophobic language so casually; especially when discussing his innocence of sexual assault.

I feel like they should have denounced the use of gay rumors to embarrass Kelvin based on his masculinity and denounced the implication that engaging in the rape of a man, (or a woman), is the same as sexual orientation.  Kelvin is obviously a horndog bastard, but to try to use gay sex to demean him maligns the culture because it equates his violence toward women with having sex with a man

    • 1976 Pt 12 Final part Laurie agrees with Stuart that Peggy is rushing into marriage to prove that the rape didn’t ruin her life.  She points out that the only way Peg can be sure is to make love with Jack before the wedding. Stuart admits she’s right but points out that he can’t suggest that to Peggy. As the wedding approaches, Peg seems happy that Jack’s become close to the family. However, her happiness is shattered by a nightmare in which her loving bridegroom turns into a leering Ron Becker, forcing her to cancel the wedding. Jack reassures her he’ll wait as long as it takes, and Chris confides that she and Snapper didn’t consummate their marriage on their wedding night because of her own rape experience, but Peggy tells Chris she might never be ready.  Despite her desire to keep Karen as her own daughter, Chris helps a police artist create a sketch of Nancy so it can be printed in the newspaper as part of a search for her. When the attempt proves fruitless, however, Chris asks Greg to file application for permanent custody of the child. Greg points out that adoption is the only way to prevent Ron from returning and claiming the child, and that it will take quite a while. Meanwhile, a nurse in the psychiatric ward sees a resemblance  between the newspaper drawing and her autistic patient, Mrs. Jackson, but since “Fran” doesn’t respond to the name Nancy and no one else sees the similarity, she fears she’s mistaken. Jill is horrified to overhear Kay, when brihging baby Phillip a Christmas gift, telling the child she remembers the night he was conceived. Kay has to then admit to Jill she saw her with Phillip in the bunkhouse that night. Jill is aghast to realize that Kay new the truth all along and put her through such agony in spite of it, denying her baby his father’s name. Lance tells Laurie they’ll marry on Valentine’s Day. He laughs that it’s corny but agrees, secretly wishing it were sooner, as Vanessa has vowed to prevent it. Indeed, Vanessa makes an unprecedented venture out of the house to visit Brad, telling him to rebuff any advance Leslie might make to him, as she’s reaching out to him only from a sense of duty. But Laurie then makes a concerted effort to reach Vanessa. Without being sure why she’s trying so hard, she tries to assure the woman she’s not losing Lance and she, Laurie, will help her find a plastic surgeon somewhere who can help her. Grudgingly, Vanessa seems to be reconsidering her view of Laurie, and Laurie is delighted when Lance offers her a choice between two diamond necklaces, explaining that her preference will be Vanessa’s Christmas gift. Learning from Les about Brad’s blindness, Stuart tells Brad he could have turned Leslie away only out of great love. Knowing that Les is going to see Brad again, Laurie warns him not to bring the baby into their discussion, as Leslie will come back only she’s convinced he loves her, not for the babies sake. Leslie finds Brad disheveled and sloppy, and proceeds to straighten the apartment, stating that she can't respect him if he lets himself go. Realizing that neither Brad nor Les will make the first move, Laurie hurries things along by refusing to help Brad with his grooming, saying he should ask his wife. Then, having learned  that Brad offered Les the use of their piano, Laurie untunes the Brooks' piano forcing Leslie to accept his offer. By refusing to cater to his  blindness, Les manages to get Brad to stop wallowing in pity, and by the time Leslie’s Christmas braille message of her love and her need for him arrives, they are husband and wife again Lance takes Laurie on a business trip on New Year's Eve, and tells her, on board his plane, she won't be  won't be able to call him “Mr. All Talk and No action” after tonight. When Laurie protests that waited this long and will continue to wait until married, Lance delights her by instructing his pilot to land in Las Vegas, where they are married immediately.
    • Yeah, not sure why Jack and Jen didn’t rush to Marlena - or even Carrie - to offer their condolences. A few flashbacks would've been a nice touch too. Instead, we got a whole episode of them talking about Chad and Abby? Come on. On the bright side, I loved Anna’s scenes with Marlena and Carrie - sweet and heartfelt, felt like a real 80s throwback.
    • Martin and Smitty were designed to avoid the stereotype of gay men sleeping around (which to an extent is true). If you recall Martin had a line about them not being open when Chelsea came to talk to him. The producers are walking a very fine line right now and it might not be popular to say but I can understand it. Establishing enough footing to ward off complaints will let them showcase gay characters more openly later.
    • The week was decent. They have started to rotate their stories and finally got a rhythm going. I disagree about them allowing every character to have a moment to shine though. Nicole really hasn't been given anything to do. I completely agree with all this. I adore Doug and hope he makes it through.

    • There was the one appearance in '96, but otherwise, that's correct as far as I know.

Question for the B&B group: I see @rsclassicfanforever has uploaded multiple seasons from Videoland  (in the folders that are to be put away). They are huge folders and difficult to download so I started breaking them down into months but I realized they are by season so for example, Season 4 spans from March 1990 to March 1991. Now I'm wondering where to actually place them, since we have the Full Episodes section divided by year, not seasons. And most of these seasons we already have in full, so these are duplicates. Not sure if it's necessary to keep the older versions. I could just make another new section for Seasons, so the main folders would be "Behind the Scenes and Interviews," "Clips," "Full Episodes," "Full Seasons," "Music CDs," and "photo archive Marquise" but I'm not sure that really makes sense. Also wondering since we have almost every full episode now if "Clips" can be deleted in its entirety, as it's nearly 300GB.
    • CBS moving Murder, She Wrote from Sunday to Thursday was straight up sabotage. Les Moonves knew exactly what he was doing.
