Hilary Swank and Husband Chad Lowe Split 1 hour, 25 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES - Two-time Oscar-winner Hilary Swank and actor husband Chad Lowe have separated after more than eight years of marriage. "Hilary and Chad have decided to separate, but they are hopeful they'll be able to get through this tough time,"Swank's manager Troy Nankin said in a statement Monday.

There was no elaboration on the reason for the split.

Swank, 31, and Lowe, who turns 38 on Jan. 15, were married on Sept. 28, 1997. They have no children.

Swank famously forgot to thank a tearful Lowe while accepting her best actress Oscar in 2000 for "Boys Don't Cry." Last year, Swank won again for "Million Dollar Baby" — this time, thanking her husband.

She will next star in "The Black Dahlia," Brian De Palma's adaptation of James Ellroy's novel.

Lowe, who is the brother of actor Rob Lowe, won an Emmy Award for his portrayal of AIDS patient Jesse McKenna on the TV series "Life Goes On" in 1993.

David Rose, the actor's agent at Innovative Artists, said there would be no comment from Lowe.

That's sad. They've been together for awhile. Hmmm I wonder if he was a bit sick of Hilary being the big star.

This saddens me. My heart goes out to both of them. At least there IS some hope of reconciliation. I always thought they looked so happy together and from the Hilary interviews I've seen, they're each other's best friend and Chad is a big part in Hilary's life.

My thoughts go out to them..

That's too bad. They seem quite sane, for Hollywood stars I mean.

Hilary's career is red hot right now. Chad's...not so much, though I thought he was amazing in the episode of Law and Order SVU he starred in.

I hope they can work things out, but if not, its totally not the first time. Lots of credit for making it 8 years though. That's rare in Hollywood.

I think Hillary Swank is kind of nasty looking!! She looks "butch" to be a girl. Even with a dress on!! I noticed that watching the Oscars last March.

I respectfully, and completely, disagree. Hilary is absolutely gorgeous, and her undeniable talent makes her all the more appealing. Shes in my top three actresses next to Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep.
