I actually liked Mike and April BUT the thing that really hurt this couple was the Nick angle and that it dragged on for so long. If they would’ve cut that Nick part a bit shorter and gave them a proper relationship it would’ve worked much better.

I mean he wasn’t bad looking and a decent actor overall.. AND he had chemistry with the cast especially Eve.. Like some said before they tried so hard to work them as the new IT Couple of days

Days of Our Lives was fantastic during 1993-1994. those years got me hooked! But then 1995 brought the possession storyline, and the show changed forever. It felt like it became more science fiction, and Stefano turned into more of a cartoon character.

To be honest, I always thought April was a bit of a dud of a character to begin with.  She didn't leave me with much of an impression.   I can only remember her being an alcoholic and something about her mom's death.  She's better than her brother just not very stand out as a character.

Michael Bays was Julio.

A lot of fans didn't think that. When Billy Hufsey was first fired in 1989, Days got so much fan mail demanding he be brought back, that he was immediately re-hired and back on the air 3 months later.

There was a third brother too, named Raul. He was in the gang with Emilio and ended up holding Kayla hostage at the Community Center. RoJohn had to shoot and kill him, which led to some problems for Carrie and Julio because Julio hated cops as a result of that.

Definitely strange, because from what I’ve watched, I can’t stand Emilio

They kind of borrowed the whole ‘gang member with a chip on his shoulder and a heart of gold’ trope from Pete Jannings and gave it to Emilio, but damn he’s like Pete on steroids.

And that curly mullet that he was rocking makes me feel as uncomfortable as Luke Spencer’s perm does

I like Julio though.

Now I remember. I mean I watched them episodes when I was very young and remember that they were boring and it reminded me somewhat of a Pete Jennings rip off.

Thank you so much @JAS0N47 for the information. Very kind of you.
I did liked Emilio in a way but he felt more like a pretty face than an actual character. Like I said earlier he was likeable but that’s all. I have to admit that I’m a die hard JnJ Fan so that plays a factor in it. I’m biased.

@carolineg wow I didn’t knew he was on the Fame show.

I remember in early 1990 when Sarah was introduced back to the show that Emilio and Sarah were dancing on a professional level and singing. It was funny lol

Perhaps Billy Hufsey's appeal is lost on me because I was born too late.  I have never in all my time on soap boards run into someone that was an Emilio stan though lol.  He ended up being abusive to Melissa and she pushed him into a glass ceiling or something to his death.  Anyhow, I would assume BF was a big "get" at the time and his teen idol status helped him stay on Days longer than he should have.

@AbcNbc247 I do remember the third brother.  Wow, the Ramirez family did get a push back then to be relevant.

Yes, that's my first-ever memory of Days!  I remember Monty pulling the plug on Rosa in her hospital room, that's the first scene I can remember seeing live on TV. I guess I was home sick from school that day. I had watched very briefly in the summer of 1988 (no memory of those episodes), more consistently in the summer of 1989, and finally started full time in summer of 1990.

I’m almost up to that

I read ahead a little and they really seemed to go all out for sweeps that year. Carrie’s kidnapping and the return to Stefano’s island, Rosa’s death, Nick’s “death”, Adrienne sleeping with Emilio, Justin finding out and trying to kill Emilio and getting paralyzed, Neil and Anjelica getting married, Melissa dumping Jack at the altar, etc.

    • Yeah, and quite honestly, are there really that many scenes that are flashback-worthy at this point in the run?
    • I know at one point they were on Hulu & i-Tunes. I just checked it on JustWatch.com & it indicates 1 season on Prime Video & on AppleTV. Have fun!
    • That era is so weird...they made a big deal out of all three of those characters and then they just..disappeared! Not that I am complaining. We talk about the bad out of character writing for Alex under JFP..but this was one example that may have led them to write her being so obsessive with Nick.  WHY would Alex accept Flock of Seagulls guy as her brother? They had her in one scene (setting up the Alan return) complain that Alan abandoned her...she blackmailed him into leaving town and she had been angry at him for helping Brandon with Lujack and also using Spaulding for that dumb dreaming death thing. Endless scenes of her with Simon, I can't believe Bev wasn't bored to death! I would also add Pam writing the scene where she lets Ms. Sally die in front of her to protect Alan and  the writing for Alex could be screwy even before JFP.
    • On this day 34 years ago the final episode of Dallas and came in at an astonishing #2 in the ratings after two straight seasons of weak ratings. Interesting Knots was #27 for that week as well:

    • Thank you for clearing that up. I wasn't watching GL regularly yet at that point, but seems to me I should have remembered the big wedding after Leslie's death (which I do remember) described in the profile. Is there a web archive of SOD summaries, or are referring to your own personal collection?
    • I was bummed that 2.0 ended because Mcpherson (headwriter) had really set up some interesting stories and we never got to find out where the stories would go once they resumed production on 'season 2'. I remembered the EP (Ginger Smith) and a lot of the stars gave a lot of credit to McPherson being able to come in on very short notice and come up with stories/plots (I think it was a very short turnaround time of a few weeks).  It was nice that she got to redeem herself after her year long Days stint was not well reviewed/liked.

    • It seems like a setup for failure to review a single episode of a soap, but Cleveland Amory was a foolish man.  His taste was so predictable, that one wondered why bother reviewing a medium he so clearly disliked. (found on Facebook retro TV group) Another case in point of his misogyny from his review of Dark Shadows (Can you imagine the magazine with the widest circulation in the country insulting its customer in this way today?)

    • They could easily be re-created, or even re-shot in different ways, especially if they were re-shooting scenes at some point, as well.
    • The Ted recast really is a shame because now they won't be able to do flashbacks to the best scenes the show has done to date.
