This evening's episode. Sheffer's second month and the show is already much more enjoyable than it was under Laiman. There's a lovely storyilne for Nancy but I don't remember if there's follow-through or not. I'll enjoy discovering it for a second time though.

Each day this week, one of our leading ladies has received an invitation to David Stenbeck's funeral (tomorrow night's viewing) and THAT I'll never forget.

Martha's Lily could drive me crazy sometimes but I think Sheffer was one of the few scribes who knew how to write her as an actual human being.

Its too bad too, as Schultz actually woke up  and is quite good here. I just never understood why the David actor was considered a good actor.

Steve and Carol...when Betsy came along no one mentioned them again.

How was Karen connected to Eric? I thought she came on when David came back. Dano totally miscast as Cyntihia..a pharmacist, when I could see her as a fashion designer at Fashions,  trading barbs with Lisa and Babs.

The therapist is totally unprofessional...this was the begging of the culling of the spring summer newbies that came post Dobsons first run. Muscle Boy Rick, the asian doctor and his wife (may have already be gone) Hayley and her aunt (Dobsons creation) the sexy blonde nurse and this blond doctor guy, who is cute but what the hell was his storyline?) While the Dobsons started this, and were never good for ATWT, the show was a mess at this point, and when they came back they did make it better.  Still would like to know why they quit, or were fired and why they came back.

You're welcome! I didn't tag anyone because I'm always afraid I'll miss someone.

I thought it had been up on YouTube before.

I love the episode. I remember seeing it when it originally aired.

It did very well ratings wise too.

From Soapcentral (I did not realize Karen was meant to be a teenager when she arrived on the show...that makes her relationship with John even odder):

On her first day in Oakdale, Karen was looking for work and not having much success. She stopped in front of a store that seemed to be already closed, Fashions, Ltd., The door was open, but nobody seemed to answer when she called out. Karen then found a young man, passed out. Karen immediately called for help and him got to Memorial's ER in the nick of time where the angel dust was gotten out of his system. The man, Eric Hollister, though did end up in a coma for several weeks. During this time Karen celebrated her 18th birthday, but instead of a huge celebration, Karen opted to be a nurse to Eric during the time he was unconscious. When Eric finally, awoke, everyone erroneously assumed that he was a drug addict because of his overdose. The only person who stood by Eric through all of this was Karen. Eric found comfort in Karen's willing arms and they temporarily became lovers and moved in together. However, when Karen started to realize that Eric's heart belonged to Hayley, she released him from any obligations and told him their love affair was over.

This was Hogan's best period, the early year or two and his most solid group of writers.  I recall a NYer article where he revealed that the network and/or P&G insisted that Corley and Demorest be replaced to add more women to the outline writing team.  Hogan also preferred 7 or 8 script writers which I always thought was a mistake. Too many cooks in the kitchen.  Courtney was definitely the script editor. I assume Beldner was outline writer along with Demorest and Corley.

Agreed..I remember really liking his first year or two and agreeing that he brought new life to the show, but then it went all straight to the dumper and I lost interest...( I have no idea why, when GL was even worse, I stuck through it...) This had a higher energy but grounded.

Nice seeing the Hughes kitchen again (why they got rid of it I will never know, the Bauer kitchen stayed with only a few Bauers on hand...) and nice story for Nancy and I really liked this Chris Hughes..he was cute, his chemistry with Wagner was great..(of course he would be a Grandma's boy) I don't know why they got rid of him..I thought he was the best Chris (yea, I know not the greatest actor but he had charm and seemed like a Hughes...)

    • I don't think they had any idea who he was this time last year. I think they were keeping their options very open. Same with totally dropping the Trina romance that was spoiled for him in the mags once FV clearly took a shine to him. Frank's priorities are bright and blazing in one color. I do think Gio and Emma seem to have worked out given that she is very dry and sarcastic and he is like a hot golden retriever, but I'd still play the field or explore quads with both with very different people - Emma with a scheming young man (of color), Gio with possibly Trina or someone else, or even a boy. Then maybe put them back together, who knows. But of course none that will happen.

    • He definitely got lost in the shuffle last year. First, they were implying that he was Drew’s son, then he was nothing more than just Violet’s bff

And then they changed him to being Dante and Brook Lynn’s son, which was clunky at first but I’m enjoying the storyline now.
    • GM is adorable, charming and fun onscreen despite months of nothing to do until recently, and has a bodacious bod. I'm not cosigning the show or this story - I haven't watched a full episode in over a month - but I think we're all taking the small victories in 2025 at this point. I'm open to testing this theory!
    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
