I remember. That was Season 2. Dwayne kissed Whitley in the back seat of her car. He was pissed that they were stuck. Whitley through out her spare tire because it was too ugly. While they waited in the back to keep warm Dwayn kissed her. The rest of season 2 he made it clear he liked her but she was afraid to ruin their friendship and ended up with Julian instead.

I liked Julian but I thought he should have been with Jaleesa or Kim.

Their first kiss was Season 2. Had the episodes wrong. I don't know why I get them mixedd up so much.

They really should put this series up for sale. I'd buy it. I wish they would do another show like this.

What's funny is how forgotten and tucked away this show has been since it left the air. The show was a huge hit, for the most part, when it originally aired. Now, a lot of people don't even know The Cosby Show had a spin-off.

What's interesting too is that A Different World rated higher The Cosby Show in black viewers for almost all of the seasons they ran together originally.

But I've come across people who think of A Different World as a "black sitcom" and they don't think of The Cosby Show in that same vein.

There are a lot of shows that were highly rated but then forgotten afterwards, especially if they are rarely seen again. ADW actually had some runs on major cable channels, whereas I don't know if Chico and the Man, Maude, Falcon Crest, etc. did (I guess Falcon Crest had a few years on Soapnet).

I read in a forum years ago that Falcon Crest was rerun on what is now Lifetime years before I had cable. Maude has never done well in syndication and Bea Arthur attributed that to the dated topical nature of the show. This is why she resisted similar storylines and references on The Golden Girls. Frankly, I love all of those "dated" references, many of which went over my head as a kid, but to me that's only made the show more enjoyable as I've gotten older... a bunch of new laughs.

Chico and the Man was shown on the American Life Network a couple of years ago, and I think a little while on TVLand before that. But yeah, not a big syndication hit but I think that has a lot to do with the nature of Freddie Prinze's death.

That's interesting. I mean, TCS was a family sitcom and ADW was a college sitcom, of course it was a black family and a black college which by TV standards is certainly unique. But I hope "black sitcom" isn't some sort of pejorative. I think, I KNOW white viewers can relate and they were obviously watching, but of course the show (like Good Times) dealt with issues that were specific to the show's setting. Of course, a lot of those "Very Special Episodes" could have happened on Degrassi too. What made the show black was its flavor moreso than its content, just like Friends was a "white" show though no one would ever call it that. ^_^

That is exactly why I think those people Y&RWT mentioned in his post consider ADW a black sitcom and not the TCS.

It had a certain flavor to it, whereas The Cosby Show was more of a universal sitcom that looked beyond race.

However I consider both black sitcoms either way.

    • I pray⏤and I know it's a big prayer⏤that Noel Maxam is somehow able to figure things out budget-wise so we can stop re-dressing existing sets as "new" sets. I know in apartment buildings apartments can generally look the same, but I'm over it on this soap. The last time he was executive producer was in 2011 when the original Horton Town Square was introduced, and we had some other sets get introduced around this time (likely pre-commissioned prior to his election), but I'm trying to have some hope he can pull this off. Let's [finally] see it.
    • Definitely not the best of RC's breakdowns. I don't know what it says that I could pick up his trademarks yesterday 30 minutes in without even knowing that he did one. There was something more...quirky/boardstroked...about Dani. Though I love the Dani/Nicole scenes, she was just a little too hip?...which made me think back to the episode when she broke into Bill/Hayley's house. Then watching the episode later on, I saw Hayley was being used as a punchline to the more interesting and relevant Bill/Ted scenes (see you all were just talking about how you hoped they got scenes...one thing this show is great at...what people want on this board...they already have the foresight for it. The reason I feel the DNA test will get mentioned @Cheap21 in more detail). And then poor Anita reduced for the most part propping up an album.    Needless to say, not my favorite RC episode. And since we are in aftermath week, I just smh. And barely worth a rewatch. BUT...was there good for me?    Yes. Thankfully, we still got good aftermath beats regardless of the breakdown.   Like I said, I really like the Dani/Nicole scenes. But I love their dynamic. And I was looking forward to the shoe being on the other foot once the SilkPress storyline hit climax. Quirks aside, it did not disappoint. Dani came in, and she came in fierce for her sister. I loved her attacking Eva. And then her being surprisingly introspective about Nicole due to her own experience. No wonder Nicole reacted to her being self-aware. So did I.    Meanwhile Bill and Ted finally met up. I'm kinda sad that we did not get that sooner given the scenes that played out sidepiece in the background aside. It might have been interesting to see more of their status as non-Duprees coming into the family explored.    And of course I can't leave without mentioning Eva vs SilkPress Sheila which was the highlight. Both of them were giving. And SilkPress was just so cold with it. I did love that Eva finally stopped letting her gaslight her. Sad to see the duo break up. But I did love that she went to Ted. So...the next turn begins.   And speaking of turns...uh oh at Kat and Tomas. I'm sure he won't be staying away from her. So most definitely, Kat vs Eva ain't over. It will be interesting to see how it goes now that most people know that Kat was right all along.
    • Nah I enjoyed it much more last year because of the Harry plot that ended during that time. Nazar being introduced and them. But this time it is so lame and nothing I like forward to anymore and I’m one of them long time fans. Of course I would be upset if they would cancel it but maybe take a year off or two and return refreshed
    • came across this quote that provides some context: “It’s hard to escape the cultural reach of the Catholic Church when you live in the Western world. It is, for better or worse, one of the load-bearing walls of our civilization. Its influence wafts from the church into the streets of civic life, the courts, the schools, the arts.”
    • Yesterday's show:   Can they give Ambyr Michelle the Emmy for supporting actress already?   Truly enjoyed the episode from Leslie and Eva, Eva and Ted, Nicole and Dani to Anita and Nicole.

    • Yes, I noticed after discovering Chandler was in several episodes. It's a shame it was canceled. I'm glad I was able to watch Chandler's episodes.
    • I'm Catholic, and I care, as do many who aren't Catholic. No need to be so nasty about it.. The whole episode was on Paramount Plus. That is where I watched it..
