WoST had one of Robin Strasser's earlier episodes and the way she spoke in a scene with Viki in Viki's office at The Banner reminded me a lot of the way NP spoke, that softer, smoother, measured lilt. Not the vocal histrionics we're more accustomed to hearing from her Dorian. Robin had watched OLTL (she saw the heart medication scene with Victor) so I guess she smoothly transitioned from what Nancy and Claire did into her own Dorian.

I keep remembering that photo of Pinkerton and Jameson Parker as Dorian and Brad Vernon, in their tennis outfits, and Pinkerton with this big grin on her face, like she could conquer the world. And her Dorian really could have conquered the world. Imagine a soap today with such a strong female character and more importantly, a strong female point of view.

A favorite picture of her is in the OLTL coffee table book. She is at the hospital in her doctor's whites standing face to face with Viki who's wearing a rather imperious look on her face, and a large black fur coat on her back. It's what I read into the picture, Dorian's deep-rooted jealousy and envy of Viki, what she wanted for her own life and a style and demeanor she'd go on to adopt once she became the Lady Lord.

    • i am now watching December 1980 episodes and I am enjoying what is happening. Most people in this thread have said they think Texas did not have a chance in Hell of succeeding but I don’t agree.  While I agree that it got off to a rocky start and the competition was fierce by the end of 1980 it was hitting its stride.  I believe that if Paul Rauch and the Corringtons had been left alone they could have brought Texas to the middle of the ratings pack of the other soaps. There was years of story to be told for   - Iris / Dennis / Paige / Elliot - Samantha / Justin / Reena / Max - Courtney / Jeb / Elena - Billy Joe / Nita / Ricky.   I would have kept Terry and moved her into the Ryan / Ginny / Barret story.    Writing out Dawn, Clipper, Kevin and Bart was smart as those characters were boring.    I would have eventually brought back a recast Dawn who was stronger to cause problems for Iris and Paige.    Replacing Robert Gerringer as Striker was a head scratcher.  I’ve liked Gerringer since Dark Shadows and don’t understand what the point of that move was. Recasting Max because an executive’s wife could not tell Max and Justin apart was also a stupid move. Chandler Hill Harben may not have been the greatest actor of all time but he had fire and sex appeal.    I also would have killed off Alex but would have had Iris wreak havoc in Houston with her new money and power.    I would have kept Maggie. She was a great talk to for many of the younger characters.      I’m looking forward to the introduction of Grant, Judith, Mark & Brette Wheeler, Ruby and Lurlene and especially Hitopah.    I’m curious to see if I enjoy the Pamela Long / Gail Kobe era. It is what I remember most.  I suspect that I will enjoy the writing but not the new characters they introduce who are not connected to the core families.
    • Hidden Passions would've definitely made a great mini series, and if I recall correctly, wasn't Reilly actually paid to develop that and the Saturday morning spin off Harmony High. Both that never materialized. Salem High (DAYS) was also a thing at the time.
    • @DRW50, as always, the tag is much appreciated.

    • When you put it like that, wow!   You had been posting lists of preemptions for all the shows from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Are they on your website anywhere? I was trying to save them in a document, but they were not all posted at the same time so I have gaps. I was wondering if you had the full list somewhere, even though it's not Days-related.
    • The other reason I enjoy Belle and EJ is that it has really lit a spark in Martha Madison. MM's Belle was always such a sad imitation of the delightful way she was played by KS.  But, I feel like she's come alive with this new pairing.  She's aware, she's astute, and she is being totally logical about an illogical attraction. I can honestly say this is the only time that I have enjoyed this iteration of Belle (and Philip).
    • When Pam Long was the headwriter, Reva was written as someone that wore her heart on her sleeve and was driven by insecurity, lust, and impulse. Partly due to her early childhood trauma, partly as a form of rebellion against her strict mother, and also partly due to being abandoned by her father for awhile.   The problem with the character of Reva was that she was revived in 1995 during the more back to basics era in soap operas... and she stuck out like a sore thumb.
