Uh...

I'm not going to say that I didn't enjoy it. I actually really like that the ladies are trying to find their groove with each other. In fact, I felt halfway through the episode that they were giving THEIR version of OGNY's brand of wackiness that was different, but a definite vibe that went through the old team. And then it went to Hades in a handbasket due to Brynn.

Le sigh. Brynn, Brynn, Brynn.

As a black man (with a recently self-published book touching on some of that), that final scene of Ubah vs Brynn...I refuse to believe that Brynn is lacking in that much self-awareness, Aquarius or not. Which typing that and recent events in my life...I can see. BUT the fact that Erin very well caught how Ubah would react as a white woman vs Brynn who is part-black...DID NOT? Either Brynn truly did not catch how she was making Ubah feel, or worse she did catch it and did all that on PURPOSE. Images of Candiace/Wendy, RHOP, and colorism...well the clips since I haven't fully sat through that reunion...are dancing in my head. And how dare Brynn would play like that. And then she pulled a Karen right after and cried, giving a victim act. A victim act when she was all cool in her Gemini/Aquarius bond with Jenna, flirty with FOH, and minding her business even though Ubah/Sai was paying her dust?

Performative at the least, disgusting at the worst.

No wonder everyone is dragging her online.

Like La Dame currently on RHOP, I can't defend that at all. Just messing up the trip for me personally.

ERIN. I admit...she truly came across good this episode. I didn't know Erin had such a naughty side to her. You got a good one, Abe!

Though I did worry about her pulling a prank AGAIN given what happened with her and Ubah last season with a prank. But THAT...that gave us an old school OGNY moment so I can't hate on that. lol. And she gets points with me for trying to mend the fence between Ubah and Brynn ON and OFF camera even if it went left quickly due to Brynn.

SAI. I thought her, Jessel, and Ubah at the store was hilarious. Probably because I'm just having the same grocery issues here in San Diego!!!! My jaw was dropped cuz MILK FOR 9 DOLLARS??? That size for me is now 2 to 4 dollars now, and I'm happy I can find one for 2 with a good date on it with my possessed fridge. lol. I was rolling. Outside of that, I found Sai kept to herself and definitely away from Brynn.

JENNA. Outside of her usual rapport with Brynn, she really did not do much for me this episode.

RAQUEL. What was I just saying the other day about new housewives with interesting backstory? Because her story about her last name was heart-breaking. And her quirky vibe throughout the episode was a good one. If anything, I just need her to get into the mix a little more. But that will come in time.

JESSEL. I like that she has definitely come out of her shell since the last Hampton trip. And if we are going to see anyone, it's going to be Nora Pavit. hehe. And I enjoyed the trio of her, Sai, and Ubah. They really seem to get each other in a way. Like when Ubah vs Brynn exploded, I felt her and Erin were really meditating.

UBAH. Yeah, I'm starting to see why the rift got the way it did between her and Brynn. Jessel was right. I don't think Ubah has forgiven Brynn for the finale last year. She has been looking at Brynn sideways all season so far...especially with Brynn's interactions with Sai. And now Brynn is policing how she should feel, think, and speak when Brynn should know how she feels as a black woman. And then to watch her express herself only for Brynn to get in her feelings? Ugh.

BRYNN. I mean...you wanted the spotlight so much with the pot-stirring? As Porsha Williams would say...ENJOY IT.  I cannot believe (okay, I can) that she was walking around acting oblivious to Ubah/Sai icing her out as if she did not know why they would be mad at her. Ubah mentioned why last week. As did Sai. Both to her face. So where was the disconnect? I just felt Brynn was being willfully obtuse about it. And rather than come to some understanding, she made it worse by policing Ubah's feelings. And that was a shame because before that scene, everyone was really having a good time. SHE was even having a good time by hanging with Erin, Jenna, and Rebecca. And then the victim act...GIRL, BYE. I never thought I would see the day where my Brynn would go down the Lisa Barlow slide, but yet here we are.

And then next week, Brynn looks like she's going to pull some more potential microaggression stuff on Ubah. Ugh. I'll be here for the CLUELESS dress-up about because it is one of my favorite movies. That said...AS IF!! lol.

Ah...yes...Rebecca Gayheart's Toni Moletti (sp)? I remember that newspaper, too. lol.

I want to take a moment to say a personal thank you for the last part. I was told to watch out for synchronicities this past week. So when I woke up the morning you posted this, I had to head to work, but as I was working and processing some things going on in my own personal/professional life, I had a light bulb moment.

Especially after my avatar comment this past weekend. I guess the Universe was trying to tell me something...and message received. Everything you said about Brenda in her freshman college year (and how Shannen played her) resonated with some of what is currently going on with me and I was really needing a sign and what bigger sign than an actress who has always inspired me through the characters she has played so again I want to say THANK YOU.

Taste.

Also taste.

But back to Housewives talk...

I agree. They just released a new clip, and Gizelle is really having a good season. She really is coming across as a person and more engaged than she's been in years. I don't think I've like her as much as I'm liking her now since Season 1 when I thought she was the underdog with that bad wig.

I agree. La Dame knew coming into this season she would be on the hot seat. So she has no choice, but to be cautious. And like Gizelle, she is playing it well. I just wish for more accountability from her.

Jacqueline, Jacqueline, Jacqueline. smh. I really wanted her back regularly. The potential she gave. Back as a sidekick...NO.

The good news is that yes, Messy Mia IS giving context. Personal storyline. Group moments. A rivalry for the ages with La Dame. It's part of the reason that her position on the show has gotten elevated. Moreso because the other ladies last season were giving nothing really, but her and La Dame. So it's no worry that Gizelle is gunning for her and La Dame is threatened by her. Add on her moves polarize AND titillate the audience, but EVERYONE is talking about HER...it's no wonder she is in the spotlight now. But like you, I don't think how she is playing this paternity storyline is the best move at all.

Baby Kenya!!! hehe. But I think the TJ relationship is real for sure, but the nature of it is the ???

Yeah, I agree. Wendy was there the first two episodes, but it's been pretty light. Outside of group scenes.

I was a pre-teen/early teen during the Brenda era of 90210, and I will admit to briefly joining the I hate Brenda crowd until my mom told me that Shannen looked like she was in pain and was lashing out from a place of pain, not because she was a horrible person.

90210 and Charmed were better when Shannen was on the show.. she was able to play a good character.. but was never a Mary Sue nor insipid.  Brenda and Pru were good people with good hearts, but were not afraid to push back when attacked.

And I was one of the few that thought both Kelly and Brenda were too good for Dylan.

RHONY:

Brynn is trying too hard.

RHOSLC was giving Days of our Lives tonight. The girls even compared it to a soap opera. i wont spoil but this was hands down the best RH episode of the year and definitely one of SLC's best ever. It was so chaotic and once the party started, was non stop entertainment. And an event hosted by Angie. Bravo to the producers. This was GOOD! Everyone but Meredith came tot work.

OC

And I'm happy to report that I'm nearing the end of Season 17.

At the moment, I had to deal with Tamra and Jen finding resolution over Ryan rumors, The attempted Heather takedown with a bombshell, and now the focus was back on Shannon's relationship with John. It has definitely been a lot of content and fun to watch. The build has been good.

I can't say that Tamra ain't putting in the work. The living definition of throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks. First she tried it with Jenn and the Ryan gym rumors, saw it was not working, and got a quick truce. Then she tried to pit Shannon against Heather by saying that Heather was running around talking about Shannon's relationship with John. I guess she forgot about Season 9 where Heather clown her episode after episode after episode because Heather did a smooooooth deflect onto the whole cast who had been talking about the relationship all along. And the reveal that the person really talking about the relationship was SHANNON herself. Drunk? Not remembering? Woooow!!!

And that brought us to the fallout. It's funny watching Shannon and John knowing what's coming. Shannon told on herself. And the other ladies were trying to NOT bring it on camera. The amount of 4th Wall breaking as Shannon had it out with Heather AND Emily was something else. Shannon has been giving EVERYONE moments. I stopped on the pumpkin party where Jenn told Gina about Shannon's comments at the Taco Tuesday party about Child Services so now Gina is feuding with Shannon, too. The fact that it seems Tamra also had been spreading tales around, too, on the relationship was icing on the cake.

To think Shannon up until now was having a chill season...lol.

TAMRA. Goodness knows she works overtime...lol. I loved that she met her match in Jenn's man Ryan cuz he's as messy as Tamra. I loved that Heather had Tamra's number and saw a takedown coming a mile away...leading into the Costume party where Tamra was a hoot. Until she was not. Lucky for her, Heather deflected onto Gina and Emily, or people could see her web-weaving. And she still seem hell-bent on having mess with Jenn which is why I felt she played amnesia on Shannon talking about Gina and Child Services at the Taco Tuesday party. Cuz we all know she is devoted to Shannon as a friend. Just messy. But enjoyable mess.

EMILY. I was happy to see over these episodes Emily having some substance. I loved her coming down to San Diego and working on the Innocence Project more than I liked her having hijacks with Shaun. And the fact that she was the one who had to clue in Shannon about who has been talking about her (re: Shannon) was a great moment to get her in the drama. And her vs Shannon before the Taco Tuesday party and the 4th Wall breaking was over the top crazy!!! She was spilling that tea and being filmed, too!!! She definitely knew where the bodies are buried. And of course, she's always going to have Gina's back. RME. The only thing I did not like was how Emily continues to try to have a problem with Heather...cuz HEATHER. And on the next episode, I believe she will find another.

GINA. Was pretty much just there up until she found out from Jenn about Shannon and Child Services. And she rightly deserved to blast Shannon for putting that out there. Not helped by Production doing all the rollbacks on how Shannon always brings up how she helped Gina. Makes me see Shannon as a performative friend. And who wants one of those? Unlike the genuine (for better or worse) friendship, Gina has with Emily.

HEATHER. God, I can't believe the glow-up Josh Altman has had over the last few years...cuz he can sooooo get it. lol. But if Heather is going to give anything, it will be wealth. So I enjoyed seeing her shopping for a new house. And of course, I LOVED her smoooth dodge of a takedown. And she gathered Shannon the following episode though I thought it was telling that Production played a rollback on her that put her in a good AND a bad light. And it seems her next story is the rumors around if Terry is cheating.

JENN. A great new housewife. Her scenes with her son really resonated with me. There's nothing like feeling less than or other to other people and he looks like an adorable kid, so I love that Jenn showed she loves him just the way he is. And his skin color is different from his brothers, but he is STILL beautiful. And then there's her relationship with Ryan...with his FOINE ass...but oooo at them BOTH sleeping with someone else while they are on break. I also thought that scene resonated in that it was written all over her face how gun-shy Jenn is to get married again. Just authenticity all over her. Meanwhile, there goes Jenn carrying the bone to Gina about Shannon. Who knew?

SHANNON. SHANNON!!!!!!!! lol. It's funny. Heather. Jen. Especially her. They all have stories that from what I've seen are going to bloom going into Season 18. But they start HERE. Cuz her relationship with John...knowing that in the end the ladies are going to be right...is very telling. And Shannon being so worried about her image is also telling. That Production aired ALL of it and the 4th Wall stuff Shannon said during her fight with Emily. Well, well, well...Shannon ain't perfect. But I cannot say she ain't giving a show like she always does. I just sad she 'forgot' she said what she said about Child Services.

So Season 17 might have started a bit slow, but it has really increased in drama.

Interesting that production left that in, because it was SO blatant. It was almost breaking the fourth wall. It also contextualizes why Ubah called Brynn a snake. It's not just trying to shut Ubah down from expressing herself. It's the fact that Brynn is playing a certain game now and is not trustworthy. Ubah has said it, Erin has said it, Sai has said it. They all are playing THE game to an extent, but there are some friendships there that may be more than just alliances (Erin and Ubah, for example). The fact that Brynn is going over and above is shaking the group dynamic and may be worth highlighting on the show itself, instead of shuffling it to Behind The Scenes.

I want to clarify that while I enjoy Brynn creating drama in this episode, I am not Team Brynn when it comes to her situation with Ubah. I am Team Ubah. My mom is a foreigner, and English is not her first language. She has struggled to defend herself against people who can, verbally, run rings around her in English, distract her from her train of thought, etc. Even my dad has done it to get his way. It is verbal gaslighting. I've been her advocate when she needs to write legalistic letters or emails. It doesn't mean my mom is not smart, because she is -- she thinks in more than one language and cannot always get to the punch in 5 seconds or less. It is for that reason I wish Erin had stuck up for her BFF Ubah more.

So I feel for Ubah and I see what Brynn is doing. Brynn is super smart (in English -- does she speak Swahili?), and she's quick-witted, and her brain is 5 seconds ahead of her mouth. The way she was lounging as Ubah talked, you know that Brynn knows. She did indeed pull the victim act as you say, maybe because she saw how unexpectedly in control Ubah was in that moment. But! I also think Brynn was impacted by the previous morning's shouting match, because it is actually really stressful to be shouted at! Who knew?

The episode was the most watchable of nuRHONY thus far. It felt, as you mentioned, a little like OG RHONY in the Hamptons. I liked their vibe with each other. Some casts (naming no names --  SLC) despise each other. Not this cast. They genuinely seem to enjoy each other's company in most circumstances. Ubah and Brynn about to make up was actually pretty sweet to say -- until it went left. Or Jenna lending Brynn her diamonds. Raquel confessing to Brynn and Jessel. The Prank. These were highlights.

I'm psyched for the Clueless party next week. The quotes from that epic film are already filling up my brain (Cher's dad had the best ones).

I just finished watching RHONY and @Cat you and I are usually on the same page but I find Brynn to be awful. She wants to be a housewife gangster but once she’s challenged she’s the victim. I feel like she’s trying to not only gaslight her castmates but the audience as well. You can’t be a pot stirrer and a cry baby.

Yay more Kyle crying and saying she’s done. At least Dorit is activated.

I need to watch the episode again! Certainly social media is dragging the hell out of Brynn at the moment. I get it. She's doing too much to antagonise, start drama, and then she reverses into victimhood if things don't go her way. She's landed on Ubah because she thinks Ubah can be easily antagonised into going ballistic.

And speaking of victims.... Kyle's Tears are making multiple guest appearances on this coming season of Encino Bay. "Kyle says PK texts her." Oooo -- things are getting spicy. From Mo to PK -- how far we fall, Kyle! I fear this will be the only story on BH this season -- we saw nothing of Erika, for example. (Not that I need another round of Erika's budget concerts in Vegas).
