Lorraine Broderick as AMC head writer

The underworld? :P

The thing is he's not much younger than Agnes (I can't find his age though IMDB does have him writing an episode of GL in 1993--did he move there briefly with Broderick?--anyway I'm guessing his age becuase in All Her Children he talks about meeting and marrying Judith Barcroft on the show, and she was born in '42 and they mention that Wisner is "noticeably older than the actress" in the photo he looks at least 15 years her senior, he's definetly at least a generation older than Lorraine).

Agnes technically still is story consultant (well I guess technically she's an ABC Daytime consultant *coff* ) and it hasn't done tons of wonders, I dunno what hiring Wisner to do the same would do. Wisner did ALL of his work very closely with Agnes anyway. He hasn't done ANYTHING for the industry since retiring nearly 20 years back. He has always gone on about how his family is his great love (from his long interviews in All Her Children on). I just don't see him a) coming back to the show, or frankly at this point really much reason to persue him and spend the energy trying to get him to... I think hsi time at AMC was largely brilliant but I have seen when shows have, for example, brought on Harding Lemay as a consultant to no noticeable improvement. I just think at this time it would be ABC focusing somewhere that won't get them anywhere when the show really is in need of help. What do YOU, Sylph, want them to do with Wisner? :P

I know. I was just kidding; I'm probably the most vocal opponent of bringing mega-old, once very good writers back. Like Labine (75, right? Matthew is 50, Eleanor 48). We're done with Labine. We're done with Wisner, too. I know that Loyal once mentioned how Wisner's tenure also had a lot of newbies and annoying teenagers, although not nearly as awful as these two groups are today.

Labine had trouble, logistically, with writing Guiding Light. It was either a case of her wearing out, or technology and bureaucracy moving past her "antiquated" style. What I heard at the time was that her colleagues and the execs would get frustrated at what they perceived as her lack of organization... That she came to meetings with mostly hand-written info on various paper and post-it notes, and that it was just too difficult to keep following... and that what showed up on the screen sort of reflected this lack of cohesion and disorganization.

I'm not disrespecting her talent; I appreciate it. (I say that mainly because last time I mentioned this, someone basically bit my head off for "disparaging" her.) I know that Labine deserves much credit for the greatness we've seen in this genre.

Wisner is 78.

I love it how you had to emphasise that he did all his work under Agnes, as if he's a demented moron who wouldn't know to write a story himself. Obviously, she wouldn't have hired him if he had zero talent or credentials. And it's funny how you hold it against him that he talks about his family in interviews. :P

But one thing is true, you should only bring a consultant if he's actually going to consult and if you're going to implement his ideas. Which I think didn't happen with Lemay. I think Harding is 87.

Labine isn't as old as Nixon was ten years back, but when she did return to write AMC in 99 (very quickly taking on a co headwriter--who of course very quickly was replaced by Jean Passanante, tragically lol) I remember her saying in SODigest that it was with great sadness that she simply had to admit she couldn't and wouldn' tbe able to headwrite the show full time for an extended period--it was somethign she just had to accept because of her life and her age.

Re Labine and GL--her work really didn't work at OLTL either though it was definetly the most intriguing of the show's multiple HW stints in the second half of the 90s (seriously, how do people like Leah Laiman get to still write for soaps? And if I only knew OLTL I woulda thought Pam Long was a hack with no talent)

HAHA sorry I don't remember you telling me that :( but wow, it's funny in my head I always think of Labine as younger blood (probably comes from reading all those 70s and early 80s soap books and how they refer to her) but as you point out she really isn't

SOnya Tanner might have been hot (him and the aussie who showed on up on The City at the same time when ABC was Aussie Hunk obsessed were both from Aussie's Heartbreak High which I used to watch here in Canada before school every morning lol) but the storyline was I think pretty awful and forced... lol oh well.

Yeah the Anna/Alex twin thing was all jsut a big old mess. I really like Finola Hughes but the woman did NOTHING to play the characters differently, I swear I never knew who was who or why there were two of them. I'm not really sure why they decided to go with Anna from GH anyway (but I never followed GH so the history meant nothing to me) --

Awww I didn't think it was forced. Tanner was so obsessed with Hailey! That was the time when she was pregnant in real life and they really covered it well. :)

Oh my gosh! Yeah I couldn't tell who was Anna and who was Alex at first! They acted differently from each other sometimes. But UGH! What a mess!
