I'm sure they're ready to give his dressing room to Billy Miller and putting Billy's name on his parking spot.

I think MAB did consider those close enough to gay stories. It seemed to me in her Nelson Branco interview like she was trying to let viewers know this wasn't going to be a big saga involving gay content, it was just stories which happened to have gay characters. Yet she was ambiguous enough to where Branco and others could still overhype these upcoming storylines.

I think MAB got most of what she wanted out of the stories -- perhaps she would have written more for the Chancellors, but was forced to have us laugh it up at Jill in the nail salon. I don't know. And then the fans and Branco found reasons. It was Bierdz's fault. Or Yani Gellman's fault. Or censorship.

This team is very good at finding someone else to blame.

But it does seem to me not-random that both of these dropped storylines are the much-heralded "gay" storylines.

Compared to some other stories on the show, I think those stories played out to their main goal. Stuff like Jana's headaches returning, the hints about Daniel/Jana and Kevin/Amber, Colleen's board seat, Noah/Eden, Billy falling in love with Lily.

If they want to write off Lauren, why not personally talk to TEB about their plans and their reasoning.

Why not talk to any of the vets about their plans & their reasoning?

TPTB pissed Don off so much he won't even TALK about it.

why is MAB continuing to write in more new characters who are not needed.

They're cheaper.

Someone like Doug Davidson even with a pay cut makes much more than someone like Wilson Bethel.

Maybe I am being idealistic, but I just think a supposedly classy family like the Bells could be handling these tough times in a better way.

From a writing standpoint? Sure.

From a business standpoint? What else can they do?

They are using and will continue to use Jeanne Cooper to support all their new hires.

Adrienne Frantz owes her a fruit basket.

But this is where we see the failing of this regime. They wrote this cancer story for Lily and Cane just so they could absolve him of his lies and set up a surrogate story and probably another triangle, likely with Mac.

Yep.

MAB is writing for fans only in the most surface way. She gives what people say they want, with nothing underneath.

Exactly.

Neither story was a gay story though.

Maria just latched onto that cause it scored her good press.

MAB is writing for fans only in the most surface way. She gives what people say they want, with nothing underneath. So the people who wanted Jill and Katherine unrelated got what they wanted. The people who wanted Cane unrelated got what they wanted. And after that, MAB moved on. The show had many other priorities.

But who wanted P3 alive? I guess you're saying no one...just having P3 be the "mastermind" absolved Cane and left him a viable hero.

Yech.

Further more, the Thom idea must have originated from her. So if you're going to bring back a character, you must think up a reason for doing so. And something that looks like a "story".

And if the audience was mad, it is because it was awfully written. Among other things. Don't turn this the other way around.

It was poorly written, in part, because it was quickly written. MAB got a phone call last February, per Tom B, that said, if she ever needed anything to let him know. By May, it was on screen. Now, knowing that scripts are written two months in advance and plots about three months in advance, it sounds like Maria got the call, thought it was a grand idea, and wrote it on the spot.

To the post that said she is not even writing well for characters she favors, I somewhat agree. Now, I am a Phick fangirl so these needs to be taken with that in mind, but this week, we see Nick, a supposed favorite, once again being all about Sharon in a douchy way that belittles his wife. We did just a whole year of that with the quad and the triangle. But now, MAB and company are playing the same beats only this time Phyllis is standing by as if there is no problem. Look, I love my show but how am I ever going to like Nick again if he can't stay somewhat faithful to someone for more than a week? And now she wants to off Lauren in order to get Phyllis on a different path in order to not worry about "what to do" with the triangle. Leave Lauren along. The two birds with one stone approach of offing Phick and Likey seems ill-conceived by a writer not in touch with her audience. Can we have a break from death and the Phick/Shick stories? Please? I am all for the Adam/Nick rivalry, but I doubt that's all Maria had in mind here.

Oh, please. Not again... Maria apologetics again...

Would you expect any less?

Don't tell... She is fully to blame for crap she wrote. A better writer would have known how to get the best out of this labyrinthine, complicated situation and write something with some sense in it.

Exactly!

The bottom line is that she is inexperienced and on-top of that, she's in way over her head and believes her own hype.

Further more, the Thom idea must have originated from her. So if you're going to bring back a character, you must think up a reason for doing so. And something that looks like a "story".

+1

Thom Bierdz has basically confirmed in the press that there is no story for him. I'm guessing he and Nina disappear, and do Beau Kazer/Brock style reappearances. Which is, again to quote Jeanne, so "unnecessary".

I've actually heard somewhere:

The show was doing a chemistry test with Nina and Paul.

But even that doesn't mean anything to Maria. She will still feature the same ten characters in the same damn stories. This Lauren/Michael/Phyllis crap will be no different.

But it does seem to me not-random that both of these dropped storylines are the much-heralded "gay" storylines.

Also, it seems interesting to me that Scott Hamner (brought in by Sony-beloved LML) seemed to understand that there would be no "gay storylines" months earlier...even while MAB was still in the press saying a rainbow coalition was still coming to Y&R.

Maria was doing her usual lying to fans and the press to keep them from revolting later rather than sooner, in an effort to hopefully make them forget. But not only is she completely clueless about what Y&R needs, but she's also completely inept when it comes to dealing with fans of soaps, who never forget these promises that were made.

Left hand doesn't know what right hand is doing? Or Sony-plant knows the real scoop...MAB is a Bell figurehead but (contrary to her own press pronouncements) she does not get the last word??

Maria doesn't strike me as the kind of person who will just let someone steamroll over her and not pitch a fit about it. If she lost complete, creative control over Y&R, you bet your sweet ass she'd be crying to Nelson, saying that Bloom and Steve Kent have it out for her and for the Bell "vision." This lady may *think* she has class and is a professional, but she is quite the opposite.

That attitude was cute and funny when we thought she would do good things for Y&R. But people like her tend to talk a good game and put their noses in the air and can't even back it up with the talent that they claim to possess.

It seems we have a two for 1. I say take Lily with him she becomes useless like the rest of the Winters.

Pretty much.

Look at the Thom Bierdz situation. Do you really feel MAB is such a sh!tty storyteller she would have brought him back from the dead...only to instantly backburner him and then write him out??? Uh uh. Anyone can see that either negative audience reaction, or negative reaction from CBS/Sony, is at the root of this. Even INCOMPETENT writers don't do it this badly. This feels so fully like a "too many cooks" solution.

If negative fan reaction is any influence than why has Adam been completely ruined and the gas lighting allowed to continue for months resulting in a very predictable and unliked baby switch?

So yes, I really think that MAB is such a sh!tty storyteller that she totally blew this Phillip return to the point where practically everyone wonders why they undid critical history for the sake of this personal favor. You can tell the Sh!ttiness of the writing from the fact that Jill and Katherine received no story from the event itself. They should have spent months dealing with it and healing as a family. Unfortunately, it is like it physically pains these hacks to write dialogue for Jess Walton. She's not treated like an Emmy award winning lead actress, but rather as some comic fool to prop up Gloria and Jeff.

As a woman I am insulted by the way the female vets are being treated by this show. The ratings argument is a complete joke considering that Desperate Housewives brings in 13 million viewers a week and the only housewife on that show under 40 is Eva Longoria. I would so love to see TEB on that show or any of these powerhouse Y&R actresses who deserve to be written for, not shoved aside in favor of 50 nobodies.

Yep.

Let her ask Guza how well that works.

I think she doesn't know how to write a good storyline. The storyline with Sharon getting pregnant could of been so much better had she played the drama and twists by making the baby Billy's but Mary Jane thinks that it's Jack's because she read the DNA wrong so she switches the test to show the baby is Nick's. It would of caught the audience off guard and drama with in the Abbot family had Jack not known that Sharon had slept with Billy. Making the kid Nick's was some of the laziest writing especially since we had MJ who was nutty as a fruit cake doing stuff to Summer & Phyllis.

The next storyline she could of done something with is after all this crap came out about what Victor had done with MJ is have everyone turn against him and have it be a "Who shot Victor" storyline with MJ being the culprit. It would of given weeks of excitement on the show, They could of even done flashbacks of having everyone have heated conversations before the shooting.

And last the Adam/Sharon/Ashley storyline why not have Ashely have a baby that died upon delivery and have Adam make the switch with Sharon's baby then. It would be more believable as to why Ashley went into labor and why she continued to think she was pregnant.

I could go on and on because none of her storylines have had me going "Wow" in fact I sometimes feel like my 9 year old could figure out the ending of the storylines if I just got him to sit there and watch the show. I really miss the days of intelligent writing on the show and those rushing home moments to see what I missed.
