Exactly! Where is the logic or good taste?

I personally don't have a problem with Devon(Bryton) but to just trash him like that for no reason when he was obsviously very affectionate to his girlfriend Roxanne. Then he showed his feelings on how disappointed he was in Neil because of Karen/Tyra storyline.

I thought it was a good reflection on how Devon looks up to Neil because he has felt he was a role model to him, but to now their going to do this?

Makes no sense at all.

Then again, so are many things, Adam should have been found out and gone by now especially nuAdam, the perverse Doctor Taylor, Patty should have been found out, etc, etc.

They probably think they need the black characters to have hot sex scenes, like that oh-so-hot Tyra/Neil romp in his club that Devon walked in on. So we will get some other kind of "hot" Devon/Tyra moment. If it were two men, all we would be able to see was Neil touching Devon's lapels.

IMO, no one likes incest but I believe that Y&R's African-American viewers probably like it less their other demographics. I'm white so I hope I can get away with saying this, but I do think there's this subset of white culture that enjoys really ridiculous campy offensive stories. Hogan & Maria belong to it, obviously. Maybe there a few white fans out there who get off on chipmunks, incest and winking misogyny. I don't think though that this love of camp, particularly incest camp, is shared by a statistically significant number of African-American viewers. IMO, that's why KSJ was also talking abou the lack of African-Americans behind the camera. If Y&R had an African-American writer on staff they could make it clear to TIIC that this Devon/Tyra crap is not going to fly.

It's not a bad thing for a story to be campy. Mendorra was bad and campy last summer on OLTL but atleast Calivari set up the damn thing and all of the damn characters remained in character. Antonio was still anal-retentive. Christian was still an underwear model. Tina was an OTT version but at least she was Tina; the same goes for Carlo Hesser.

It played up and played out in its bad camp glory.

But this...

I'm Black and not religious at all so this s/l doesn't offend me because of the misogyny (which is just dumb dumb dumb on its own) but because of the absolute disrespect these idiots have for the audience, the characters, and to Y&R as a show who usually doesn't even do camp of this magnitude.

If Devon had been a screwed up kid his entire life and fell for his hot auntie with the funky nailcolor scheme Ty-Ty got going on, then go for it.

This is just...

I don't even think this story is supposed to be camp. I think they just have no interest in writing for this family, so they spit out these pointless little half-stories, lurid stories to get attention, and they hope that's good enough.

I don't like camp when the only purpose is being campy. That's very difficult to pull off. It's the main reason the Niki Smith return in 2002 and the Tess return last year, along with Mendorra, fell flat. Saying, "This is crazy stuff, it's wacky, laugh!" isn't enough.

Camp has to be taken seriously by the people making it.

If they want to do camp they need to drop the chipmunks and the idiotic scenes of Adam in drag and call Brenda Dickson. She is a living example of someone who takes themselves very seriously and any camp which emanates from her is a natural part of her personality.

Either call her, or go watch Dark Shadows reruns. Otherwise, give it up.

Honestly, I'd just wish they'd write out the Hamiltons. I would rather have just Neil and Lily with good (or at least good as their white counterparts) writing and three diminsional characterization. If they bring in a new black character, make sure it is someone who could act and not just someone who was on a reality show. Eva Marcille hasn't brought in that many (if any) new viewers.

They get to have it both ways by keeping Devon and Tyra around. They can pretend they're giving stories to black characters, and they don't actually have to work to bring in new characters, to make people care. They're doing what Rauch did at GL. He gave the most token of stories to David Grant in a half-hearted effort to cloak his lack of interest in minorities.

If they truly were committed to bringing in black characters I think they might have to write out everyone but Lily (since she does at least have some place on the canvas -- I don't think Neil ever has without Drusilla) and bring new characters in. Unfortunately bringing in new characters is not something this team succeeds at.

They won't write Neil off unless St. John wants to leave. I feel like y&r brass treat him like the token black man, just kept on so they can say they have diversity. I think Neil could be okay if he had a dynamic person to play off like Dru or Malcolm.

I don't think CK is as believable with the Winters as Davetta was, but I think some of the strongest moments in the past year with the family have involved Lily. The cancer, but also her scenes in the adopting Ana story were some of the few I bought.

I agree they probably won't write Neil out, since he's their token black man, but I never see any value in this character without Dru. Perhaps someday the writer will find it.

If they wanted Devon to have an affair, an equally shocking yet less incestuous choice would be Olivia. Devon and Olivia would be interesting until Dru comes back and smacks some sense into all of them, or what if Nate comes back and is like MOM WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH RICHIE FROM FAMILY MATTERS? Or they just cast Gary Coleman as Nate and say "Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Olivia?"

If a slow-building/against their best intentions sort of fling happened and Roxanne was more developed and there was some tension it'd be interesting... and I mean most of all I just want Tonya to have a story!!
