I think the show may have pushed her that way but Dorothy tends to bring a lot of new personality to each of her weirder characters. She did as Naomi and she did as Gwen Frame in that badly written 25th anniversary appearance. None of them seemed similar to me.

No matter who played Gloria I think she should have been written a year or two years ago.

Well...since I do believe there has been an element of "believing your own press"...maybe if even NB is reflecting on the problematic parts of the show...Maria might pay more attention?

When MAB did not agree about making mistakes this summer (I don't believe that, given all the changes she's making to stories this Fall), now Nelson can't give her a pass on this in the future. He'll have to discuss the story problems.

But Nelson doesn't reflect on any specific problematic parts, he attemps to be witty and makes very vague comments about what is really wrong.

I also doubt Maria will pay close attention regardless.

But he won't.

And Maria's arrogance has been shown in more than one interview. She might have tried to make some changes recently, but the show is still far from good, and I can't say it's improving any. In fact, it still feels like everything is being made up as they go along and they're throwing everything out there to see if it can stick. This is far from a solid and cohesive piece of work.

Eh. No.

She was too 'trailer trash' and didn't seem at all like someone John Abbott would marry. Besides... her face...

EXACTLY! And that's why Judith is PERFECT as Gloria. That's how I feel about Jennifer Gareis' Donna on B&B as well. Overacting can be a good thing if the role calls for it.

The weird thing about the Gloria recast, to me, was that they seemed to change the TYPE of character she was supposed to be. Whether or not JVA's version seemed like someone John Abbott would marry, she was played very white-trash. With the recast, she suddenly became this Dynasty-esque schemer. She was written and played very "to the manor born." It was just a very abrupt change in the character to me, and for that reason, Chapman-as-Gloria has always felt off to me, even if I think she generally does a good job of portraying who the character is now (horrid writing aside).
