Y&R: Potpourri Thread 2

That's why I always felt they should have (If they planned Gloria to be relatievely long term) casted Dorothy Lyman in that role.

Lyman would have made Gloria into an Opal retread.

I think the show may have pushed her that way but Dorothy tends to bring a lot of new personality to each of her weirder characters. She did as Naomi and she did as Gwen Frame in that badly written 25th anniversary appearance. None of them seemed similar to me.

No matter who played Gloria I think she should have been written a year or two years ago.

Yikes, even NB has joined the tenor of the general discussion. Sigh.

The Young and the Restless — Is Lynn Marie Latham back?

Daytime TV's "crown jewel" is simply unwatchable. Period. Everyone associated with this disaster should be ashamed of themselves. Well, with the exception of Billy Miller. It's a sad day in the soap universe when GH and DAYS are considered more thrilling entertainment than Y&R. I had to point a gun at my head just to get through the prologue the other day. What the hell happened, Maria? Are the inmates running the asylum? Restore control, honey! I'm giving you a few more weeks before I go all Mel Gibson on your ass.

I see, belatedly, that there is also some discussion of this in DTS:Spoiler...but this isn't really a spoiler....

and thank you Nelson about what you said about Y&R

Wow...EVERYONE on Y&R sucks, EXCEPT Billy Miller? I was waiting for an addendum, like, "because he has such a hot a@@" (because he does), but nope, that was it.

Three years? The show has been awful to wretched for much longer than that. Ever since Guza's 2002 return, at least.

It's nice to know you you like something about Billy Miller. Even if it's his ass.

I'm sorry but Greg Rikaart is not being wasted (certainly not more than Christian Leblanc), just backburnered.

I was mainly expecting some type of sexual comment because Nelson usually puts those in his writeups.

I like more about Billy Miller than his ass (although that's quite nice). I harp on the flaws because I hate what they've done with the character, but of course the writing is not Miller's fault, and he's been winning me over more lately.

Still, I don't know if anyone would say he is the only bright spot at Y&R.

Billy and Chloe are the only characters that interest me. Billy/Mac and Chloe/Chance better not be the endgame... I want Chilly and I want it now!

So is that the end of their "creative collaboration"? Nelson & Maria's?

One wonders...

If it is the end, I'm happy about it. The more negative comments Y&R gets the better. I can only wish for another Christmas after which we'd get new writers and maybe a glimmer of hope for a better future.

Well, at least Nelson finally called Y&R out on the piece of sh!t it has become.

I guess no more exclusive interviews for Nelson from Maria...

You know her ego (and everyone else associated with Y&R) must not be taking all this very well...

Well...since I do believe there has been an element of "believing your own press"...maybe if even NB is reflecting on the problematic parts of the show...Maria might pay more attention?

When MAB did not agree about making mistakes this summer (I don't believe that, given all the changes she's making to stories this Fall), now Nelson can't give her a pass on this in the future. He'll have to discuss the story problems.

She will never acknowledge her own problems. "The fans don't know anything about good writing, and the spoilers are the ones to blame!" is what MAB is thinking.

But Nelson doesn't reflect on any specific problematic parts, he attemps to be witty and makes very vague comments about what is really wrong.

I also doubt Maria will pay close attention regardless.

But he won't.

And Maria's arrogance has been shown in more than one interview. She might have tried to make some changes recently, but the show is still far from good, and I can't say it's improving any. In fact, it still feels like everything is being made up as they go along and they're throwing everything out there to see if it can stick. This is far from a solid and cohesive piece of work.

Nelson tends to run hot and cold on shows. I'm sure he may change his opinion if he gets a good interview soon. Either way, it's at least something interesting to analyze.

LOVED Joan.

Her Gloria was AMAZING.

Eh. No.

She was too 'trailer trash' and didn't seem at all like someone John Abbott would marry. Besides... her face...

joangrinch.jpg

Really? I mean I know she tend to over act and overdoes the camp but the character is campy

EXACTLY! And that's why Judith is PERFECT as Gloria. That's how I feel about Jennifer Gareis' Donna on B&B as well. Overacting can be a good thing if the role calls for it.

The weird thing about the Gloria recast, to me, was that they seemed to change the TYPE of character she was supposed to be. Whether or not JVA's version seemed like someone John Abbott would marry, she was played very white-trash. With the recast, she suddenly became this Dynasty-esque schemer. She was written and played very "to the manor born." It was just a very abrupt change in the character to me, and for that reason, Chapman-as-Gloria has always felt off to me, even if I think she generally does a good job of portraying who the character is now (horrid writing aside).

Okay, can I just ask who had the info on Vail Bloom singing a new contract? That must have been just a rumor.
