I'm just curious though - what sort of payoff do you get from watching if it's so horrible and save some of your fav actors is bad? I'm really just curious - not trying to make any points. When GL got horrible - I just stopped. When ATWT got horrible - I just stopped. i give the occasional peek to test if it's still horrible, and yep, it is. Make a post or two about how horrible it is and i'm done.

It seems it almost borders on sadomasochism to torture yourself watching a show that is so horrible...where's the fun or pleasure in just hating everyday on how truly horrible it is?

Not you per se, just the talk of optimism and pessimism. Not pointing to you, sweets.

To each his own, just how one can stop watching a show that is completly horrible to them one can ignore a post with a tone they dislike. I take this board of a place of discussion and while I agree with some posts and disagree with others I respect intelligent arguments. Live and let live kinda thing. I think these threads are generally representative of what's going on with the show. Many opinions, many things to like and many things to dislike and this is the opportunity to voice all of it. Many things that make you wonder and manytimes someone else either wonders the same thing or have a good answer for the inquiry

That's you and evryone handles things differently.

I think you slowly do stop watching if you are like me. I used to watch faithfully everyday and even though my favoritrs, Lauren and Michael, have been backburned awhile (Lauren most of the year) I was still interested in other stories. Now, when I watch I find many stories unappealing because I am not a fan of dark stories, and am at the point that I resent the fact that MAB can't bother to write good actors like CLB and TEB in for more than a few minutes a month when she is shoving irritating characters and stories at us multiple times a week. I'm sorry, but I would rather watch Lauren and Michael than Daniel and Amber. Some of these characters I used to like, but when they say the same thing day after day, it gets old. The way they are treating women on this show is also starting to offend me and what I used to love for entertainment is now more of an irritant.

So now the shows are on my DVR and I may watch one or two a week if the spoilers suggest the show or acting is good. The last two months I have slowly been weening myself off the show as I just am losing interest. But it is a process because Y&R has been a daily habit for me since 96 and I watched periodically since the mid 80s (My first show was Lauren and Tracey at the pool party) when I was a kid myself. Then you get sucked in all over again because someone posted Michael and Lauren were on a show last Friday and then when you see that Tracey Bregman was used in one scene with Eden for 30 secs and CLB was used for 2 mins to prop Phyllis you get upset all over again.

The thing is you can get sucked right back into the show if suddenly a story appeals to you or your favorites finally get some screentime. But if things don't change and TEB is written out as I suspect, I probably won't be watching past this summer. It will be a hard habit to break as I have been watching soaps since I was 7.

I really enjoyed today and just plain loved Kay/Nina/Jill and Victor/Adam. The acting was so good, I didn't even mind the plot contrivances.

Tricia Cast, in a weird way, fills the Victoria Rowell void for me. TC isn't glam like VR but she has the same fierceness and centered quality. You could feel the tension among the three of them -- TC brings out the best in her scene partners. If Tyra's going to hook up with her ex-nephew Devon, I would love to at least see a test-run of Neil/Nina. I think they could surprise.

I could hardly breathe during the Victor/Adam scenes. Vic really looked like he was about to smash Adam into pieces and Adam was quaking under his coolness. That was hot. I think I need a cigarette. B)

LMAO at the previews tomorrow -- Nick telling Phyllis that he & Sharon are buying a house. He's such a douche.

Ah. Where there is no hope, the people perish. Optimism can always be had. It's no way to live, not believing that tomorrow can be a better day. My opinion.

Anyway, just got through with today's show..."episode talk" :).

- Jill as manicurist is mildly amusing, and ridiculous. And today, tacked onto the start of the show, it seemed pointless.

- Yup, Jill/Kay/Nina bickering, and then moving into moist-eyed mutual support over the Huntingdon's thing....beautiful. The only problem is that it is RIDICULOUS to exhume a body for this...P4 just needs to be tested. But, oh well...

- I really, really liked Raul today. He was head-and-shoulders above Billy and Mac in his scenes with them. He has developed a gravitas he didn't have during his last go-round. I'll miss him. Mac should be really grateful for him.

- Victor putting two-and-two together regarding Adam was nice...for a minute. That they all then retreated to separate corners, and Adam continued his mayhem...not so nice. It is really tragic when Victor and Ashley have to turn stupid in order to have this plot progress. I really didn't feel like Engen was into it today. Very bland...I'd say almost depressed. You could feel the end was coming.

- Chloe's nice and all, but I am also totally over this game with Billy. Cut him loose.

- When Cane and Billy started playing basketball, my first question was "how do these guys know each other??". Seriously. That's a sign of how poorly this family connection -- even if it is animus -- has been played since the paternity resolve.

- I know people here loathe Cane, but I liked two things today. FIRST, Cane is coming unravelled/unhinged. He's nervous, and he's doing an okay job of it. SECOND, he had terrific (terrific!!) chemistry with Nina. That could GO SOMEWHERE, if they'd just unhook him from his child bride.

thank you for that - I kinda get it now. Especially if you watch for certain actors, as I don't. I can't remember Lauren or Michael being in a non-dark storyline but I guess dark has shades - Sheila poisoning Lauren to me was dark, but not as dark as Adam in drag scaring Ashley into losing her baby, dark. I really appreciate you explaining your POV to me.

    • I'm pretty sure Lucy and Bridget never even have another scene together for the rest of the time they're both on the show. Bridget isn't even invited to the wedding! The lack of community feeling and continuity of non-romantic relationships during this period is very jarring. Characters suddenly only seem to interact with a handful of other characters, rather than characters across the canvas. I'm deep into 1997 in my watch right now and find that it's even stranger because the show goes back and forth between ignoring history in order to manufacture some kind of separation between characters (for example, at one point Amanda refers to the Coopers as a family that the Spauldings "barely know," despite her and Alan spending the better part of 1996 going to war with Buzz over 5th street, and Alan has absolutely no reaction when he finds out about something bad that's happened to Abby, which seems pretty out of character given how close they were in 95/96) and ignoring history in order to create a sense of community that doesn't quite fit (characters who couldn't stand Amanda are suddenly acting all buddy buddy with her). The wheels really feel like they're coming off in 1997 (although I know some would argue that the wheels started to come off years earlier). Watching the Marcus/Dahlia romance again from a 2025 perspective is so weird. Marcus is a full grown man who must be at least in his mid-20s and he's dating a teenager who is not only still in high school, but is still fully a year away from graduation, and no one says anything about how creepy that is. I feel like the buzz around Marcus gave the illusion that the show was more invested in him than it ever actually was. Even during his "big" story where he's arrested for Cutter's murder, he actually doesn't appear on screen very often. He's imprisoned, Griffin is brought on, other characters make a fuss about trying to get him out, but there's a long stretch of time where he doesn't appear at all. I've been keeping episode counts while I watch and between Cutter's death in mid-November of 1995 and the end of the year Marcus/Mambo only appears 7 times (and of that only twice in December).
    • The letter reading was very emotional, and Maeve really got to me too. I was a little worried because Vanessa doesn't give a speech at the funeral, which surprised me, but then we got the private letter reading and her true emotional reaction and I was satisfied there. The YouTube channel I watch these episodes on (if not on our Vault), also had upset commenters talk about how Nola's line about Henry not accepting her at first/seen as a gold-digger was totally untrue. It's sad the writers don't do their homework and give fans the respect (and the characters respect). And yep, Bill got up and spoke at the funeral too, which was nice.  I didn't even realize that was Sharon Leal until you said it!  I had to Google it. I loved Sharon Leal in Boston Public back in the day haha. LOL at your Reva/Josh ALWAYS commentary. What is RME though?
    • Leslie is an extreme liar and manipulator. I'm not sure what her point was in trying to convince Nicole she wasn't trying to hurt her. As much as Eva did help orchestrate the entire plot I feel like there was too much piling on. Eva never said she wanted to be a Dupree so Anita was extremely out of line for that comment.

That's positive and something to look forward to for sure, because you're right, 1996 so far isn't nearly as good as 1995. Ohh - what is Lonatrat?  Sadly you're probably right. I did feel like David was rarely seen once Marcus came on. That would have been an interesting spin, having Frank and Tina be teenage lovers and Dahlia really being his daughter. I'm getting the sense that Tina won't be seen too much anymore, as she just left Dahlia with Frank/Eleni as she's heading to jail for a while. I like the Tina actress too!  Her voice sounds a bit like Rosie Perez to me, which I love. I tried to find her online, but coming up empty. This was the only thing I could find about Tina Crede - a character snapshot video with clips and stills of her (randomly starting just before the 1:00 mark):

That's wild that the David actor is nearly 40 here! Definitely surprises me.
    • 5-6   Meh. It already looks like a scattershot week.    5-5 was actually a good episode. Damian and Lily. Phyllis finally going on the warpath that I knew she could get on with Billy and Sally. Nate started to question Audra and Victor's alliance. And I was not even bugged by Kyle and Claire.   But then there's Cole's off-screen story. Kyle and Claire going back to being whiny. And them even wanting Adam's penthouse just sounded like trying to keep the set around. And Diane shouldn't even give a flying frak about Billy's opinion. And Tessa, Daniel, and the guitars...yeeeah no.   But hey...JM looked good in that short. And those pants.  I agree. One of Y&R's good points with fans has always been that you do at least see the vets. And IN stories.
    • One of the things that I found unnecessary and a bit disturbing about Ambitions was that in almost every episode someone was holding or shooting a gun.  Jamey and Ron seem to have the same fetish.
    • I had thought that there was a Tommy Biddles on there, but then I realized I was thinking of Dr. Biddles on Santa Barbara. Never mind!

    • I have watched the scene where Vanessa reads the letter and it's lovely, but I'm really glad now that I never got around to watching the funeral. Henry ADORED Nola! He treated her like a daughter and Stacy like a granddaughter. That's why Vanessa couldn't stand her. He was crazy about all the Reardons. He spent a lot of time at the boarding house. He and Bea--they never explicitly said it was romantic, but they certainly were loving friends. This sounds worse than Bert's funeral. I really did not think that was possible.
