Y&R losing Melody would be worse than Jess leaving.

And MTSRocks is being completely unbiased when they say that, too.

(Just kidding, MTS!)

^^^Yes, but Melody has been driving stories (or having a strong presence) for the past 5 years or so now, whereas Jess is just now being re-positioned to the front burner. The character of Jill may have been on longer, but Melody has been on the show for three decades now, and has a greater familiarity with the show. Yes, Jess is great, but given the way the character was underwritten for the past several years, I don't think her impact on the show is as great as it once was. Plus, some people still see Brenda Dickson as the definite Jill.

To me, both MTS and JW gone and both their characters gone would be horrible. The thing with MTS is that it's always been Victor and Nikki. With Jill, it's always been Katherine and Jill. You can take Victor away from Nikki and you can take Katherine away from Jill and both characters would be able to move on, but there would be a big hole in the foundation. You would know something is missing and it's not the same. Granted MTS has been on longer than JW, and Jill has been around longer than Nikki, I think it just cancels out, a huge impact would be felt regardless of who walked. IMO I find Jess Walton to be a stronger actress, but I wouldn't want either gone from the Y&R canvas. As for Brenda Dickson, oh how I loved her as Jill, but like I said, JW is such a strong actress that she owns that role. I was really hoping MTS would have received an Emmy nomination this year.

I love Walton, but I don't think she's a stronger actress than Melody (both roles are extremely different though), especially in recent years. Thomas Scott has truly come into her own, and I do credit some of that to Jack Smith. When he took over, he rejuvenated the character of Nikki. Instead of sitting around waiting on Victor, Nikki was allowed to do her own thing, and MTS excelled. Her chemistry opposite Sharon Case and John Enos, her brilliant turn in the Joshua Cassein story, and then again with Clear Springs. I still say losing MTS would cause a bigger rift, especially when people here were so quick to re-cast the role of Jill when we thought Jess was out, LoL... See had Jess/Jill continue to be a prominent character throughout the Smith/Latham run, then a better case could be made, but instead she was practically decimated then. TPTB better get their act together because Melody don't play! Hopefully, we're all wrong and it's the likes of Judith Chapman though LoL

Oh and Khan NO bias Indeed. :D

Sidenote: I would hate to lose both Jess and Melody because IMO they're both exceptional, and easily in my Top 10 actresses working today.

^^^I'm not talking about acting though. I think fans would be more upset (not talking internet) losing Melody/Nikki than they would Jess. Also, I don't think Jess is a "far superior" actress to Melody. Both have extremely different acting styles, and I think they compliment each other quite nicely.

Exactly. I have always considered Nikki to be a much more prominent character than Jill. Nikki has almost always had story, while Jill has had long periods on the backburner.

And there's also the fact that Melody was on the show long before Jess.

But Jill has been there since day 1. So Jill was on the show long before Nikki.

If people are going to look at it and say MTS was there longer than Jess, well Jess has 2 Daytime Emmy's. Regardless, Jess and MTS are an invaluable part of Y&R today. Whether Brenda Dickson was still playing Jill from her second run starting in 1983 or with JW since 1987, Jill and Nikki and their portrayer's are too important to not be around.

I disagee...

I love MTS, but Jess is a far superior actress IMO...

ICAM!

And honestly, Nikki/MTS hasn't added anything to the show since LML ruined her with David Chow Chow and the running for Senate bull s.hit.

We shouldn't be having a Jill vs Nikki argument, it's besides the point. Honestly, if it were Victor and Jack I think the show would suffer more if Victor left, but both would be extremely huge blows to the show. Each of the four is a centerpiece of the Y&R fabric and a family would fall apart without them.

WAIT...I was just thinking. If it's MTS...would they consider a recast? They were pulling out the big guns to replace Jess Walton so it's possible. But unlike Jill, Nikki has only ever been associated with one image and thats Melody Thomas Scott. Hm...they're already disrespecting her so whats recasting to them? I just don't see what kind of exit they can give Nikki which is why I think a recast will happen.

....well if you want to play it that way Jeanne Cooper only has ONE Emmy and has been on the show longer than both actors. LoL. And for the record, MTS should have at least three Emmy's on her mantle. Okay, fine but she does deserve at least one.

That's because MAB has her fawning over Victor, and playing sidekicks in everyone's stories. This is such a step back for the character.

I know the Jill/Nikki argument is irrelevant, but it's slightly amusing at the same time.

Victor is 50/50. That's because TPTB allow EB to hold a crutch on the show, and fans either love him or hate him (rarely is there an in-between). However, I think a "great" Tycoon like Victor can be phased out if the story is brilliantly done.

And they cannot re-cast MTS.

I thought MTS was the only bright spot of Victoria's coma. I also think MTS, when she's given material, is the only one who makes the Newmans interesting at this point.

I got hooked on Y&R because of both MTS and Jess Walton and I'm sorry they have to be pushed into this corner, especially when they both give their all. Just as Heather Tom did before she also was pushed out. I wish Morrow and Braeden got the same treatment.

Ugh, sacrificing Heather Tom for Sharon Case was such a stupid decision. I like Case, but Sharon is such an uninteresting character. Here I thought they were doing something new with her, and yet, it's another slutty story.

And really, Nelson hasn't said who this person is yet, for all we know, it isn't MTS. But if it is, the show has it within its power to terminate MTS's contract when her contract cycle is up. It's not up to her, if the show wants to do it, they'll do it. Since nothing has leaked yet, I choose to think they haven't and this whole blind item isn't about her.

They did WHAT?! I didn't realize that. I never liked Victoria when HT played her, but still she should NEVER have been sacrificed for Sharon. NEVER.
