One thing to be aware of with the Canadian broadcasts is that they typically included a couple of scenes from the previous day's episode before the opening theme. I believe that's the case here because Mitch/Cass and Vicky/Lisa/Adam who are in those first two scenes don't appear to be in the rest of the episode at all. So those scenes alone would not be evidence that the Soapnet broadcast was trimmed.

I believe it had to do with the fact that the US broadcast allowed more time for commercials and so the Canadian network had a little bit of time to fill, at least in the 1980s. If I recall correctly they weren't doing it by the time the show ended in 1999 but I am not sure exactly when it stopped.

Eddie Drueding uploaded this missing episode from the period we've been watching, me and my husband. I'll watch it later tonight with him. We are way pass that in storyline time, but still... I want to see it. It looks to be a great episode. Heads up to anyone that may be watching late 1988.

Thanks! BTW I followed your advice and I’m watching Fall ‘88. I’m not able to follow the stories as accurately as I wish because the audio is somewhat problematic for me but I’m enjoying it nonetheless. The show is so earnest and for some reason I have a soft spot for it. It’s honestly like watching a Broadway Play every episode.

One thing that’s piqued my interest and that I hadn’t noticed back in 2008 (I started watching when P&G gloriously uploaded the episodes on YT

) is the amount of older ladies that are involved as side characters. Aside from Ava, whom I was familiar with, I’ve now seen Bridget, Liz, a red haired woman who is running the restaurant or something… Wow. They make the show even warmer for me - if that makes sense.

I am sooo happy that you followed my advice and I'm looking forward to hearing your reactions to the months ahead. And let me assure you - there is this only one period of bad-audio episodes and by the time December 1988 starts... everything is perfection (at least it's very rare to get a bad quality episode). If you need some guidance on that period, I'm also here to help, with my limited knowledge. But I'm learning and as passionate as can be. The show really slowly builds up in October-December 1988... and I'm feeling that in 1989 there are going to be some fireworks culminations.

We watched January 4 1989 last night, but I still haven't had time to write my review. Later tonight when I'm rested and off work. I wish all you Another-Worlders a beautiful day.

Many times people compared AW to a presentation of a live play translated to the small screen. Something I always loved about it.

Connie Ford is my favorite actress. I adore Bridget. I'm still mad that JFP fired her for no better reason than she was over 50. Liz, well, Aunt Liz, somewhat stereotyped family busybody is of great value. And, Irene Dailey did actually win an Emmy!

Could the unknown woman be Denise Alexander as Marisa Lasalle/Mary McKinnon?

Another World - January 4th, 1989

A helping hand may be a knife in the back soon.

I'm baaaaaaaaack! After a week of watching "Squid Game" and missing my Bay City friends, we are back! We watched this episode the other day, but this is the first time I'm taking the time to write this down. Today we have January 5th to watch in our schedule!

So... let's begin shall we!

In the aftermath of the restaurant fire, the police was looking for any evidence that may help their investigation. Pilara's guilty conscience led her back to Mary's house where she clumsily left the keys on the counter.  Later in the day she came back only to raise suspicion when Vince asked her what she did on New Year's Eve. He then called the police and told them her name.

Donna Hudson drove Jamie and Vicky insane with her wedding party planning. She did not stop blabbing idiotic ideas and dominating the entire conversation. Jamie ran away to his mommy and grandma and Vicky sprinted off to Amanda, feeling doubts about the wedding.  Amanda calmed her down! These two girls are equally deluded at times.

John, once again triggered by an intimate moment between him and Sharlene, was struck by another episode of PTSD. He immediately called Mary's office and asked for an appointment. I smell problems for him and Sharlene.

In Amanda's apartment... Iris pitted mother against daughter while posing as a supporter for Amanda - opposing Rachel's concerns. "You always have a reason for what you do." That little smile on Iris's face when she smelled blood... (seeing Amanda think her mother is underestimating her) MADE ME SCREAM with laughter. I watch soap operas for these small moments and details. Carmen Duncan MADE THAT scene.

And talking about Carmen, Iris finished the episode with once again fake-offering help to organize Donna's party. She was so nice, so friendly, but as soon as Donna left the room, Iris took their family photo and vowed to destroy their marriage. Ouch!

Overall - 10 out of 10 - One of the best episodes so far.

Best moment - Iris vs Rachel.
