I do understand people's criticisms of Larry Lau's acting choices. And I understand your use of those adjectives to describe him.  But in my opinion -- of all the actors who portrayed Jamie, Lau's acting style is the most similar to the acting style of George Reinholt (Steve Frame).  Especially the choice to play things brooding and moody at times. Plus Lau looked more like Reinholt than any of the other actors.  I'm not suggesting Lau was the best actor (of all those who played Jamie), i do feel a couple of the others had broader acting range.  Just saying he was the most reminiscent of George Reinholt.  Which may or may not be an important thing,   And all of this is just my opinion, of course.

Richard Bekins is by far my favourite Jamie. His Jamie was passionate, stubborn, headstrong and at times messy.  He had amazing chemistry with Connie Ford (Ada), Doug Watson (Mac) and especially Vicky Wyndham (Rachel).  The show should have moved heaven and earth to get him back.  I thought Larry Lau was fine most of the time and definitely a hell of a lot better than that generic, pretty boy with limited range Russell Todd.

That's definitely a big what might have been. It's hard to imagine AW on ABC. Maybe they could have gotten Harding Lemay back one last time as he was at ABC then.

Well, P&G defies explanation. I mean, it could have gone on for some more years. Shapiro was deadly serious about wanting it. And, I don't see any reason why it couldn't have been on ABC. i have no idea what P&G was thinking. Shapiro was a mover & a shaker. She got things done. Maybe P&G was just tired. They'd been fighting NBC for so many years.

Guys I wanted to ask all of you this a lot of time, but I always forget to do it (ADHD). What period of the show... was your introduction to it... For me, it's obviously - late 1988. Even thought I have watched 5 episodes from 1987 - you saw me struggle! And I have watched couple of episodes from 1991 years ago, but I don't remember anything other than that I told myself how amazing this show looks and sounds and how I dream that one day there will be more episodes available. And it happened! Ha! So yes... what was your moment of starting to watch - what years, what era, what head writer?

My first memory of Another World was the Sven Peterson story / murder of Rocky Olsen in 1977. I was 5 years old and it began my love of the show.  I watched faithfully until 1996 and then only sporadically after that with long breaks until the end.

To this day I belong to a private group, styled AW LastGaspers because we were there daily till the bitter end. And I do mean bitter. We've known each other online since the early 90s. Some of us have met in person.

Thank you for sharing this. I am really impressed with all you guys. I feel like I'm in the presence of Another World fan royalty tonight. Cheers to all of you. 🎁❤️

This sounds like the premise of a wonderful movie or a novel based on real life. I love it. ❤️

Sven Peterson.

Dear God, that name still shivers me timbers...

"Watch out, Rocky.  Or I'll give ya' a burial at sea -- wrapped in a garbage bag and shoved underneath the dock in the Cory boat-house."

One of the most gruesome scenes ever on daytime television.

What was his story about?

It was a brilliant story that I could not do justice to by trying to summarize it. I will do some googling to see if there is a recap / summary of it out there. Sven was played to perfection by Roberts Blossom who had a somewhat successful stage and film career.  He played the neighbour Kevin was afraid of in Home Alone.

Just saying "the neighbour Kevin was afraid of" and I instantly remembered him... Got goosebumps. I will also do my research tomorrow. Thank you for this information.

I asked Microsoft Copilot what he could tell me about Sven

What can you tell me about the character of Sven Peterson on Another World?

Sven Peterson was a character on Another World portrayed by Roberts Blossom from 1977 to 1978. Sven was a very intense and evil character who kidnapped Rachel Cory and kept her in the stables for days, creating a lot of drama and tension on the show. His portrayal by Blossom left a lasting impression on viewers, making him a memorable villain in the series.

Yes, you're right! Sven Peterson, played by Roberts Blossom, was indeed responsible for the murder of **Rocky Cory** on **Another World**. This storyline was one of the many dramatic and intense plots that kept viewers on the edge of their seats.

It's always interesting to look back at these classic soap opera storylines. Do you have any other memorable moments or characters from "Another World" that you'd like to discuss?

Thank you so much darling. The amount of information that came up when I googled last night was so little at first glance... that I decided to ask you guys and I'm happy I did.

Ah, that infamous prostitute Modesta... she was a lot of people's first I assume, since SoapNet started airing the episodes from that moment. Thank you for sharing this with me! And I really feel petrified of the thought that... by 1996 AW was looking like DAYS. I don't want to say anything bad about DAYS, but...  I'm scared.  Which era of DAYS did it resemble? 😂 The context is in the details.

That current era (1995-1996)

It seemed somewhat darker and more gothic. And they tried to do that thing with Tomas and the vampires not long after Marlena’s possession ended.

But I will say that, from watching the early 1995 episodes of AW, I believe the mandate to make it more like Days came down before Jill Farren Phelps got there

Of course that would have been the most likely time for them to start pushing that, with DAYS being the only soap to have ratings go up during the OJ time period.

AW got Jill in that infamous exec swap where P&G moved each EP over one soap. I believe her mandate was to cut the size of the cast & make it younger.

The only thing about asking AI is they inevitably get something very wrong. In this case it was thinking that Rocky was a Cory. He wasn't. His surname was Olson. And, he was Rachel's stable master. I think his intro line was to Rachel telling her that the horses were saddled for Miss Amanda & Master Matt to take their daily ride.

Ah that AI at it again. Every time it gives wrong info. 😤

I am still looking for more info on the Sven storyline... So if anyone has any... Please throw it my way. Thank you in advance, people.
