November 25Nov 25 Member @Xanthe Thank you once again for all of the information. I don't think I've ever encountered Ben in any of the episodes I've seen of the show. The actor was cute and charming so of course they got rid of him. I also will never understand the obsession with the character of Jake. I concede Tom Eplin is a good actor, but I would have been perfectly happy to lose the character especially after 1990.

I always forget they brought in a son of Kevin's (was this meant to be a son from before Kevin went to prison)?

He was a unique character who was well integrated into Bay City. He had an interesting relationship with Donna, a complex relationship with Carl, a sweet romance with Nancy and friendships with Carter and Ben. He tried to prove himself by making Smiley’s a success which had him interacting with many characters there including Maisie and Felicia. I thought his absence was a big loss for the show.

I'm not sure what Cecile's plan was or whether she hoped to gain anything by it but based on the included scenes I don't think that little drama played out for maximum impact. Rachel was positively serene upon discovering that Mac was John Caldwell. The YouTube AI noticed that there was a lot of talk about Zack Hill and helpfully added a link to a musician named Zach Hill.

I thought his absence was a big loss for the show.I do think that if he had lived something would have had to shake up Nancy and Perry's relationship. I suppose Jake and Vicky could have accomplished that some way or another. This is where I start to play the game is there anything Ryan did that Perry could not have done? I suppose that Perry would have been too much of a known quantity to have swept Vicky off her feet the way Ryan did -- although depending on the writing that could be a minor issue and something could have happened so that they saw each other in a new light, etc etc.

If we're assuming he had a break from the show and was first seen again as the one rescuing Vicky from the wild horse ride, he still could have come back as a cop investigating his father to add conflict and Vicky still in the mix. Perry would have already had a connection to Cass and Kathleen (when she returned) and Donna. Probably would have been a better fit if the show wanted to use history. However, when did AW ever want to use history properly? Seemed like every time there was a new producer, the show became a completely different show and the past didn't matter. I suppose if no Ryan there would have been no Grant (or Kelsey, thankfully!) No Ryan/Vicky/Grant which drove story for a long time.
