Susan Boyle recording of Cry Me A River uncovered

Veronica Schmidt

A recording made ten years ago by the unlikely Britain’s Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle has been uncovered.

The sudden singing star’s spokeswoman confirmed this morning that an emotional recording of Cry Me A River which hit YouTube late last night is the 48-year-old Scot.

She reportedly covered the blues ballad for a charity album in 1999, partly funded by the tiny Whitburn Community Council in West Lothian, where she lives. Only 1,000 copies of the CD were pressed.

The surprisingly seductive recording for The Millennium Celebration compilation album drew another flood of tributes this morning, as Susan Boyle Mania continued a week after she was discovered on ITV’s Saturday-night talent show.

The frumpy but talented unemployed singer, who confessed last weekend that she had never been kissed, has become a world-wide media darling since her Britain’s Got Talent performance of the Les Miserables song I Dreamed A Dream became an internet hit.

Oprah Winfrey is apparently lining up an interview with the singer, who was complimented by Broadway icon Patti LuPone during an interview with the US programme The Early Show this morning.

LuPone, whose I Dreamed A Dream is widely considered the definitive version, told Boyle in a satellite-cross that she had “pluck”, as a raft of other US broadcasters and newspapers lined up to interview her.

Earlier this week, Hollywood actress Demi Moore confessed she had been reduced to tears by Boyle’s appearance on Britain’s Got Talent, telling fans about it on her Twitter blog.

Boyle was quickly written off by the talent show's live audience on Saturday night when she arrived on stage, drably dressed, and stumbled over her words as she talked to the judges.

Her admission that she would like to emulate the West End star Elaine Paige was met with scorn, but when she began to sing, the crowd turned. Many rose to their feet, along with judge Amanda Holden, as she delivered the bold and moving performance.

Boyle has since said she hopes that the way she surprised the Britain's Got Talent audience will serve as a lesson to society.

"Modern society is too quick to judge people on their appearances,” she said.

“There is not much you can do about it; it is the way they think; it is the way they are. But maybe this could teach them a lesson, or set an example.”

Her sudden rise to fame has surpassed even that of of previous Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts, who went from plain mobile phone salesman to successful recording artist.

The show's judge and music mogul Simon Cowell is reportedly working on a record deal for Boyle.

Aw....I think it's great she's getting so much attention. Good for her. She's a great voice.

I thought this was hilarious:

I changed the title to make this a BGT thread. I thought maybe we could talk about the other acts too in here. For some reason, I'm more into the the UK version of shows (X-Factor, BGT) instead of American Idol, America's Got Talent - maybe it's because the UK versions have hot women as judges (Cheryl Cole, Amanda Holden, Kelly Brooke, Dannii Minogue)? LOL

Here are a couple of acts I enjoyed:

Hollie Steel - 10 Year Old Ballerina/Singer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yODjyHMRvE

Diversity (dance group): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUNC2BTWOHA

Shaheen Jafargholi - 12 Year Old Singer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVU4IkzMNIo

Julian Smith - Saxophonist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tz8BvSiop5Q

Darth Jackson () - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxL3Yvf-d58

Singing Souls (the girl in green in hilarious! If she was a character on TV, I think I could root for her. She's got the look and attitude of a fun teen bitch LOL): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPcYrHAGyo4

Stavros Flatly - Greek Irish Dancers (hilarious and awesome! LOL): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gHvATmUsSg

Flawless - Dance Act: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GrOMLylvhQ

Good Evans - Singing Family (the mom and son are pretty good; the girls are so adorable): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjm2i37xSM8

Fabia Cerra - Dancer (OMG!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIaESNgrg4E

Andy Demetriou - Dancer (the dance move that will sweep the nation!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktHxY30xImA

Woohoo! Go Diversity! I absouletly loved them from their first dance. They are so freaking creative and talented. What I love about their group is that they are all different in age and size and they used that to create some freaking awesome moves. I'm a huge Transformers fan so of course I loved the beginning of their winning dance. LOL I think they've been better than any dance group from America's Best Dance Crew.

Hollie Steel is so adorable and so talented, she has such an amazing voice. My heart went out to her in the semi-final when she breaks down and starts crying. She's such a brave little girl. I loved her final song. She's amazing.

I think Sally from 2 Grand also has a great voice and I think she's a bit pretty too. Giver her a view more years of voice training and to grow up, I think she could make it big too.

Stavros Flatly have been so entertaining and I love the father-son relationship.

Even so Susan Boyle didn't win the competition, she really was the biggest winner of this year's BGT. She got the show world wide attention and made a name for herself. If she pursues this, she will be very successful. I thought she sang her final better than her first. If she won it would've just been the cherry on top of a great story. It's a shame she was harrassed by the tabloids and that it was hard for her these past couple of weeks. And if it weren't for Susan Boyle I don't think I would've watched BGT and be exposed to those other acts that I loved.

Here's where you can watch the final performances: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=95747AFADF9FECE9

New British star Susan Boyle to record her CD in Prague

ČTK | 25 May 2009

Susan Boyle, major star of this year's Britain's Got Talent song contest, will arrive in Prague to record her CD with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, the server iDnes.cz has reported.

It adds that Boyle, a 48-year-old amateur singer from Scotland, is to spend two to three days in Prague at the turn of June and July.

Over 58 million viewers have watched Boyle's performance in the contest on the YouTube server.

Her work with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra should follow up the orchestra's previous cooperation with the winner of Britain's Got Talent from 2007, Paul Potts.

Czech Symphony Orchestra director Jan Hasenoehrl told CTK that the recording of a new CD with Boyle is being prepared. He recalled the orchestra's similar experience with Potts.

"The cooperation is interesting for us since the orchestra can thus get into a good distribution," Hasenoehrl added.

Boyle, an inconspicuous charity volunteer worker, amazed the jury in the British song contest by her performance of a song from Les Miserables musical, I Dreamed A Dream. All of a sudden she became a "celebrity" invited to various TV programmes and shows.

Susan Boyle booked to record album of Broadway classics

23/05/2009

Simon Cowell and record company bosses have made plans for Susan Boyle’s debut album – even before she performs live on TV for the first time.

The Scottish singing sensation has been getting vocal coaching and is expected to wow viewers again in the semi-finals. She remains the bookies’ favourite to win the contest.

The Czech National Symphony Orchestra have already been provisionally booked so she can record an LP of Broadway classics next month. And if she is successful on BGT, she will fly to Prague and record tracks during a three day visit.

Dusan Mihaly, the orchestra’s manager, told the Mirror: “I am excited, happy, my dreams are being fulfilled.

“All of Prague will welcome her and what we want most is to have a performance with her in public.”

BGT’s 2007 winner Paul Potts recently recorded his new album Passione with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra.

Mr Mihaly added: “Sony BMG, Susan’s record label, liked our sound and so wanted Susan to record with us. The album will have a big Broadway sound with a 70-member orchestra behind it.”

Her next performance is expected to be viewed by millions, after her first audition where she sang I Dreamed a Dream became the most viewed online clip ever last month.
