Although the six remaining episodes from season two of the series are scheduled to air on a new night beginning Wednesday, May 27, NBC has officially canceled its primetime drama âBrilliant Mindsâ starring Zachary Quinto and soap alums Teddy Sears (âOne Life to Liveâ) and Al Calderon (âDays of our Livesâ), among others.
The news of the showâs cancellation comes months after it was pulled from the networkâs schedule, only to be replaced by two-hour episodes of âThe Voiceâ on Monday nights, which itself was moved to help support the launch of the new comedy âThe Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins,â which stars Tracy Morgan (âSaturday Night Liveâ), Daniel Radcliffe (âHarry Potterâ film franchise), Erika Alexander (âLiving Singleâ) and Precious Way (âDays of our Livesâ), among others.
After a successful first season that aired behind âThe Voice,â Season 2 of the Warner Bros. TV-produced âBrilliant Mindsâ saw double-digit year-over-year declines and emerged as NBCâs lowest-rated drama on linear, making its renewal chances very low.
Al Calderon
Inspired by the extraordinary life and work of world-famous author and physician Oliver Sacks, âBrilliant Mindsâ follows Dr. Oliver Wolf (Quinto), a revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist and his team of interns as they explore the last great frontier â the human mind â while grappling with their own relationships and mental health. Calderon joined as a series regular for Season 2, playing Nurse Nico Silva, described as the âMayorâ of the fictionalized Bronx General Hospital. Sears plays Dr. Josh Nichols, Wolfâs love interest.
Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Donna Murphy, John Clarence Stewart and Brian Altemus round out the showâs cast.
Berlanti Productions, Fabel Entertainment, The Imaginarium, Grassi Productions and Tavala produce in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
The series was created by Michael Grassi, who also serves as writer and executive producer. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Lee Toland Krieger, DeMane Davis, Melissa Aouate, Henrik Bastin, Jonathan Cavendish, Andy Serkis and Shefali Malhoutra also executive produce.
âDays Of Our Livesâ Recasts Javi Hernandez
On Thursday, April 30, âDays of our Livesâ formally announced that it had recast the role of Javi Hernandez with newcomer Jacob Martinez, with Calderon making his final appearance as the character later this month and Martinez making his on-air debut on the Tuesday, June 30, episode of the Peacock-exclusive series.
