lol. That's the vibe I got, AMC. It has that neon-ness to it. Typically tacky. Typical ABC.

HD uses far less light (which is why Y&R didn't have to do anything with their lighting when they went to HD)

I don't understand why GH is so bright.

Whatever, that is the least of this show's problems

Okay, so I finally have a decent HD TV, and (more importantly...it took forever for them to upgrade) a top-notch digital cable signal.

So, I think when HD debuts on TV, I'll be able to see it as-close-to-intended as possible. I'll be watching with interest.

I must confess that the crappy signal we've had here, plus the non-HD version of AMC in particular, LITERALLY turns me off. I know I should focus on story, but when AMC looks all washed out (like vaseline over every scene), the low resolution is simply magnified on my TV. In other words, AMC probably looks WORSE on my outfit than it should...but it looks so awful compared to its chief timeslot competitors that I just can't stand to look at it. (I think it might look better on a small Youtube screen).

GH and OLTL both looked better, because they don't have that "filmic" handicap. I look forward to seeing GH-HD, and I also won't judge it for a few weeks till they get the kinks out.

Its funny you should say that- It really looks like Days in the 80's/ maybe even the early nineties. Days today is very sitcom looking, its the Days hot pink light vs. AMC's white light.

Even the hospital set looked more interesting on that video behind the scenes thing, I am over it. Cant wait to see HD, those grizzled actors. ahem. geary. cough. Maurice. cough. better schedule an extra hour in the makeup chair! Eeek.

For anyone who has watched JFP's OLTL era as well as AW and GL (which I have only seen on Youtube) GH doesn't look like a JFP show at. all. Those GL clips I have seen are particularly impressive.

I figured you all might be "nattering nabobs of negativism" :), so I tuned in.

You're absolutely right! The colors are way off.

I'm going to guess this is part of the experimental phase (and may be because they have not yet switched to HD, even though aspects of the productive are switched over). I'm wondering if the lights are actually darker, so they're "lightening up" the lo-Def product...and in the process distorting the colors.

I suggest one wait till 4/23 to see what this will really look like.

It is in that link i posted awhile ago- Ed Scott was relieved that Y&R's signature lighting did not have to messed with, that was one of his fears, but HD requires less light- the question is why is GH so neon? The show is only going to look worse for it, almost all their sets are drab, tacky, and old.

B&B has beautiful lighting, it is very different from Y&R's, but it is still flattering, very Hollywood.

It kills me(in a good way) how Y&R looks today, the same as it did in 1985/86. I posted a link to those perfect quality Youtube videos of Y&R (dubbed in German) and it is downright eerie in some ways because THEY ARE almost 25 years old!! I was in elementary school. There is something to be said for Y&R's consistency in its identity (production value wise, writing wise )with the exception of the Latham period)
