March 15, 200916 yr Member I believe the nominations are out in late April. I think the eligibility period is something like March 2008 to March 2009.
March 16, 200916 yr Author Administrator Thanks, Alvin. Looking forward to this years awards - this time I'll actually know who some of the people nominated are. LOL

May 6, 200916 yr Author Administrator Hooray for Hollyoaks - loved the nods for Best Storyline, Spectacular Scene , Best Single Episode.
May 9, 200916 yr Member The awards have been leaked. If anyone wants to know them, here they are, in spoilers. Best Soap - Eastenders Fave Actor - Robert Kasinzky (Sean Slater, EE) Fave Actress - Katherine Kelly (Becky, Coronation Street) Child Performance - Maisie Smith (Tiffany, EE) Best Villain - Tony Gordon (Corrie) Comedy Performance - Nina Wadia (Zainab Massood, EE) Onscreen Partnership - Zainab and her husband (EE) Sexiest Male - Scott Maslen (Jack Branning, EE) Sexiest Female - Michelle Keegan (Tina, Corrie) Best Newcomer - Graham (Corrie) Best Exit - Liam (Corrie) Lifetime Achievement - Babs Windsor (Peggy Mitchell, EE) The Doctors won Dramatic Performance and Storyline, both for a rape story, and Single Episode I was surprised Hollyoaks won nothing. I wish Emmerdale had won something, either for Matthew's death or for the Shane storyline. I don't really understand why Windsor got a lifetime achievement award, she's only been on soaps for 15 years and she's already so well known to the public for so much else, why not give the award to a long-running actor who never gets any recognition?
May 10, 200916 yr Member I just don't know how it was possible for Hollyoaks to lose the Most Spectacular Scene. If there was one award I thought they had in the bag, it was that one.
May 11, 200916 yr Member I felt like they were trying to send Hollyoaks a message about relying too much on stunts and not on plot. I think they were sending all the soaps a message, after a mediocre year, with those Doctors trophies. Video preview Pictures of the winners. I'm really amazed at the people who win the favorite actor trophy most years.
May 11, 200916 yr Member I'm happy for Barbara Windsor, such a classy woman and she's always EE's biggest cheerleader. Happy for Gray O'Brien as well. Craig Gazey is too cute, so adorable and dorky. And yeah, you know it was a slow year when Doctors wins anything. I'm not surprised by the Hollyoaks snubs, 2008 wasn't as a great as 2007. They won 8 trophies last year, they were in for some sort of backlash and the show just wasn't up to par last year as it was in the previous year. Edited May 11, 200916 yr by Y&RWorldTurner
May 11, 200916 yr Member I thought Hollyoaks would win at least 1, so this really surprised me. I guess they just had that buzz last year, possibly helped by Chris Fountain being on an ice skating show, that gave them a temporary boost. I wish Emmerdale had won more but their demos are not in line with a soap awards show. I thought it was very telling that Eastenders won no awards for dramatic material. I love the Masoods, separately and together, but they are barely treated as B-list characters by the show. Yet they won, along with ex-Sean Slater, whose best work is from the neck down, while none of the serious stories came up trumps. I feel sorry for the ladies in the roles of Bianca and Whitney, because they were incredible in the Tony storyline. I think they got buried under so many much more hyped stories last year which sort of fizzled out (anything with Tanya, Roxy's baby daddy, Mad May blowing up the house) and may have alienated the judges. I've seen a few episodes of the Doctors, not the rape story, but I've heard nothing but good things about the story.
May 21, 200916 yr Author Administrator The montage was the best part of the awards. I was so underwhelmed by the clips this year. Last year, the clips were so good. I wasn't blown away by most of the stories or performances. The only two that caught my interest were the "falling through the ice" from Emmerdale and the Tony is a pedophile scenes from EastEnders. Hollyoaks' Church explosion definitely should've won over "falling through the ice." I think 3 out of the 4 Best Exit nominess were all the same - someone got hit by a car! Like really, there were no better exits than that in 2008? Oh, I had no problems with Michelle Keegan winning Sexiest Female. The Best On Screen Partnership winners from EastEnders were hilarious.
May 22, 200916 yr Member I think 3 out of the 4 Best Exit nominess were all the same - someone got hit by a car! Like really, there were no better exits than that in 2008? if you're referring to Matt littler from Hollyoaks, they didn't show it in the clip, but he too was hit by a car. lol.
