I find my shows OLTL and Y&R completely unwatchable.

I watched OLTL today and laughed hysterically at the performances. Horrible.

Y&R doing an explosion??. It was like ABC but worse. Kevin getting stuffed into the trunk. I laughed. Y&R today was like softcore porn.

Back to OLTL-

The kid who plays Shane on OLTL was terrible. TERRIBLE.

Farah Faith- AWFUL.

These supposed sweeps storylines are boring and derivative.

I would rather spend my time watching clips of 1985/86/87 OLTL on Youtube. Even when I was 9,10,11 years old, I enjoyed watching 40 and 50 year olds like Slezak, Ritchie, and Strasser who could ACT- instead of 17 year olds.

Daytime soaps are done. Period.

OLTL's problem is that it features too many bad actors in major stories. RC is a fool to give Farah Fatah such a heavy story. All it will do is give her more opportunity to stink up the joint. The kid who plays Matthew can't act, but at least Bo and Nora will churn out some good work. These are not good stories for OLTL. It isn't strong enough to carry two downer stories at the same time.

The rumors about Erika Slezak are hopefully untrue.

The kids in peril stories are always tedious, especially when they're designed to create sympathy for heroines with bad writing (Marty, Gigi).

I'm surprised and more than a little worried at how long these Slezak rumors have gone on now. Her response to them wasn't exactly a firm denial, and Viki has been phased out of most of the canvas over the past year.

Oh Ann we said the same thing-

Eddie Alderson is all over the map with his performances.

You have Kristen Alderson kissing a 30 year old teacher.

The girl cannot act. She is horrible.

Scott Clifton is pretty appealing and a decent actor.

You basically sacrifice his character to give Alderson drama. (How this girl has not been recast is beyond my comprehension). Not to mention she looks like she is 13 years old!!! It makes the storyline seem like some dirty old man's freak show fantasy hour. Its DISGUSTING.

Shane's asthma attack and performance and Farah's performance was like a Saturday Night Live skit.

Marty and her adrenaline rush/Incredible Hulk Impersonation was- was-was- i am speechless

I could go on and on...the serial killer storyline (always a bad sign for any soap) Stacy on five days a week (You KNOW Frons handpicked this chick)

I just don't like soaps anymore.++ Ducks head++ Hell I think Y&R is just as bad++Ducks head/runs for cover++

I am done bitching.

Rucky baby- I cannot guarantee that. From what I READ- ATWT IS THE WORST soap on daytime.

I have never in my life watched more than 15 minutes of ATWT.

But to those who think ATWT is the worst soap on daytime, I say:

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL???????????

As much as I am done with OLTL and Y&R, B&B is handsdown the worst performed piece of "art"- daytime/nightime/theatre/films/pantomine/whatever

piece of s_it I have ever or will ever see, in this lifetime or the next. (minus Susan Flannery)

rangethatrover, never stop bitching. Bitching means that you care. Whenever I catch OLTL, I laugh hysterically at the bad acting. It makes hard for me to even pay attention to the stories. Does RC watch his own show? I know he can't fire all these actors, but he can control their stories in a way that down plays their weaknesses and plays to their limited skill. Stop giving Bree Williamson, Jon Brotherton, the Aldersons, Farah Fatah, etc serious stories. Give them lighter more comedic stories. Get Frons agree to send Starr away to college or to finishing school. She looks too young, is not attractive and is a horrific actor. You have to know when it is time to cut bait and run. People complained when Maxie on GH was recast, but Kirsten Storms has made the role her own. Scott Clifton is decent as is Crystal Hunt who plays Stacey and the actor Rex so take a quad in that direction, playing down Gigi role.

Crystal Hunt should have been SLOWLY introduced. OLTL does not grasp that concept. I think Stacy has the potential to be a good, entertaining character.

Farah Faith has charisma- but is a horrible dramatic actress.

Kirsten Storms is what made me tune into GH after 15+ years of not watching- I just liked how Maxi was written and her performance is infectious and fun. But by February GH was unwatchable and I have not watched again.

And listen, I really do understand how hard it is for these actors in daytime- I know they get no rehearsal- and at OLTL these kids are shooting more than one episode a day (I believe all shooting is done by the set featured- like whatever scenes are in the diner over a weeks period are shot in a day)

but you know what- that is not my fault. OLTL, even in the worst of times, featured great actors who knew their characters- who could make anything worth watching. Where have the Jessica Tucks, Fiona Hutchisons, ect gone?

I agree that Stacy should have been introduced slowly. I don't see the rush in creating conflict between Rex and Gigi unless (1), the response to Rex and Gigi is tepid at best and Stacy is a means to generate viewer interest, or (2), it's just another opportunity to give Rex and Gigi frontburner status. But even if it was the latter, RC could have come up with a better way to give Rex and Gigi a story. This Stacy stuff has me stumped.

I agree with you, sorta, on Farah Fath. She does have charisma but I do not consider her a strong actress, and never have. I remember FF on DAYS and she was horrid on that show. She's better on OLTL but RC needs to refrain from giving her heavy material. Some actors excel at that, others simply don't. I just feel like OLTL is trying to make Rex and Gigi Llanview's New Alpha Couple and I don't think they have the stuff to carry that off.

I hate complainers. Its like "WHY do you WATCH if you hate it so much?"

And now, I am one of those people.

I think Y&R is even worse, but why bother- everybody loves it! I would just be talking to myself! :)

OLTL is more fun to bitch about because people either love it or hate it generally. I loved OLTL in November and December. The Todd/Marty stuff to me was amazing- it was psychological drama. The holiday episodes were the best on daytime. Thanksgiving was one of OLTL's finest holiday episodes ever.

The show is schizo. It is now driven by 15-26 year olds who I just don't care about. And once stories are made even worse by laughingly bad acting- i tune out.

And shoot. The point of this thread was Erika-

And yes, I am a huge Erika fan. Love Charlie. Love Brian Kerwin and Erika.

I see no end in sight as far as the treatment of their two characters. There are no storylines for them for at least the next 6 months.. if you are over 40, you are going to be marginalized on ABC... You are gonna sit at a kitchen table once a week and listen to some 21 year old bitch about their (front burner storyline) problems and pour tea. Or if you are Charlie you will get two lines per show. He almost appears mute. Christ, That annoying caricature "Moe" works more than him.

OLTL is already the most depressing soap on air,

The show already revolves around rape, a dead baby, a drug addict and a serial killer, do they really think we want to see

Love in the afternoon my ass.

    • Now this strikes me as funny. I have it up on my acct. The thing is I only have S2. Didn't want either 1 or 3.  Perhaps I should just list all of these that I have up.  Parodies: Dirty Sexy Money, Filthy Rich Incomplete: The Monroes, All That Glitters, Falcon Crest (have all just not all up), Once & Again S2 only Complete: Models Inc, Pasadena, Pacific Palisades, Paper Dolls, Flamingo Road
    • This is wonderful! Thank you for posting this! I loved the first two seasons and never got to see the final season when they cancelled the DVD release. I've been hoping this popped up on streaming but no luck. Happy I'll finally get to see how it ended!

    • In case it is of interest to anyone here, I have digital copies (computer files, mp4 etc.) of all of the episodes. And, besides having the files they are all up on my usual video hosting site, acct name: shallotpeel, channel it is in: Primetime Soaps and file names like  Flamingo Road S1E15 Hurricane Flamingo Road was a primetime soap on NBC by Lorimar Productions. 2 seasons. 1980-1982. Morgan Fairchild, Barbara Rush. Developed by Rita Lakin.
    • Arguably DAYS OF OUR LIVES has been brilliant lately & definitely was last week. But, here I am with nitpick & technicalities. This was the only misstep but it was just a stupid thing that should have been caught. Deidre Hall as Marlena has this one problematic line, "It didn't matter how many identities you had, I always knew exactly who you were, you were the man who saved my life." - Marlena, DAYS, 6-2-25 Unfortunately the flashback closest to it was when Marlena was on the phone, terrified because she thought he was Stefano. Yes, it's true that the line is not accurate. There were many times when she did not feel the way she is claiming because of whatever was going on in story with his 'retconned to hell & back' identity & origin story. Does it keep the whole week from being called excellent? Nope.

    • I decided this primetime soap deserved it's own thread as the Primetime soaps thread is very cluttered and why shouldn't NBC's Lorimar soap mot have a chance to shine? In doing a deeper dive into the second season ratings I was surprised to see that FR actually had an uptick in the ratings when NBC moved it to 9pm Tuesdays beginning March 82. I'd always assumed this move was a desperate one as NBC were running short of programming and had given up on the show, deciding to let the final episodes play out and be hammered by 3's Company  and CBS Movie. But the numbers paint a different story. In it's 10pm slot up against Hart to Hart, which regularly finished in the Top 20, FL premiered in 53rd place and placed in the 40's and 50's as the season continued. But come January 82 the numbers surged a little now moving into the 40's hitting #43 in Feb. Hart to Hart was #11 Then in March Bret Maverick was moved to 8pm with FR @9. First week 16th March FR #47 15.1/24 3's Company #3 Too Close for Comfort #5 CBS Movie #60 Not great but #2 in it's timeslot March 23 FR #44 15.6/25 3's Company #4 Too Close for Comfort #5 CBS Movie #33 So even with a stronger movie on CBS FR's numbers went up. March 30 FR #31 16.6/26 3's Company #9 Too Close for Comfort #5 CBS Movie #56 Best rating/position yet Tues April 6 pre empted Tues April 14 FR #36 16.0/26 3's Company #5 Too Close for Comfort #11 CBS Movie #59 Maintaining previous week's numbers Tues April 21 FR #33 15.6/24 3's Company #3 Too Close for Comfort #5 CBS Movie #60 Numbers down a little (reflecting general spring downturn) but best ranking of the season so far Tues April 28 FR #35 15.1/23 3's Company #9 Too Close for Comfort #6 CBS Movie #42 Tues May 4 FR #27 15.2/24 3's Company #5 Too Close for Comfort #4 CBS Movie #41 Season finale and highest position of the season. Looking at those numbers I wonder why NBC cancelled the show? They had very few hits and here was a show that was holding it's own and moving up in the rankings in a tougher timeslot. And being a serial, the storylines could continue to build the following season. And I'm sure the desirable W18-49 demo was good. Some might argue that CBS were shower weaker movies, but even so, soap viewers are pretty loyal. I guess Grant Tinker arrived at NBC and wanted a classier look but there was room for FR on the schedule. I mean, the following season Knight Rider,Powers of Matthew Star and the A Team arrived so there was still room for more populist fare. Flamingo could have stayed at 9pm-the replacement Gavilan bombed (surely FR would have done better} or moved back to 10pm. The following Jan NBC had a hit with A Team Tues 8pm. Had Flamingo followed it, it might have really taken off. As it was they tried Bare Essence, which flopped. Oh well,it was not to be...
    • Always, in every way, Cass/Wally/Felicia foundational to my viewing. And, I think if we look at the aftermath of the disastrous 90 minute show that we find too many pockets of some kind of lost time at the show plus way too much of change-ups in exec & writing leadership and of course we also reach the first time it becomes notable that NBC wants to get rid of the show so they can put a new soap they own in the timeslot.
