DAYS: Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans fired!

Josh Taylor is not expensive at all. The fact is they have to cut corners. This is not Higley or Tomlin's decision, this is Corday's decision being told by NBC what to do. They need to free money up right now as the ratings actually have not been as bad but it is an easy decision firing MBE/SN. They never worked this time around with all the head writer changes. They have been heavily backburnered, they are not needed on the canvas right now. Actually you are going to laugh but ALISON SWEENEY HAS BECOME THE SHOW'S HIGHEST PAID LOL. NBC loves her and the Biggest Loser is doing very very well ratings wise. Maybe they were not willing to take any paycuts but the characters never worked. Sometimes returns work and sometimes they do not. Look at Florencia Lozano on OLTL, proof positive a return can work.

The thing with Alison is... shes worth it.

I think she is one of very few people whop if left a soap ratings would fall. I almost never say that. But i do believe it with Alison. More so than anyone else on days for sure. As much as people may hate her or her pairings, they are populer. granted, not as much as those fanbases like to think, but i dont think many can argue that the ejami base and the lumi base dont make up a good percent of the audiance, then there is the just sami base. but then again in this day of youtube, you never know... and days' ratings did do well when sami was locked away with just rafe too, so maybe im wrong.

She is prob the higest paid sat on the show now. Esp since PR & KA took a cut (wasnt that reported?).

I really dont think johnmar or stevekayla leaving will hurt much if at all int he ratings, because who watchs just for them? nithe couple has been showcased really in over a year. but then again maybe the 1-2 punch isnt good or perhaps the longrun damage is too grand now, but really... if thats the case we can date that back to far before Higley.

I do think the one thing that hurt days the most in the longrun was undoing the murders from a few years ago.

ehhh. now im just rambling on. im gona stop now. lol.

I think Allison Sweeney is the highest paid actress on that show, and she is probably making between 400-500,000. If Kristen Alfonso and Reckell took a 40% paycut they are probably now at 400,000-450,000 as well.

Even Susan Lucci is still making just about a million, and Erika is probably at 800-900,000 (although not for much longer I would wager)

I think Days probably now has the lowest paid cast on daytime (If you were to total the salaries- as broken down after per episode, guarantees, ect..

^^^ And I don't feel for Days fans anymore. They are obviously still watching and must not be that unhappy!^^^^

I feel bad that the end of this genre is rapidly approaching (With the exception of Y&R and B&B) and that actors over 40 are not considered viable or "worth it".

I am almost 33 and my favorite actors on daytime are all in their 40's 50's and 60's.

You think I will watch Y&R to watch Eden and Colleen? OLTL to watch Starr and Cole?

Wake me when this is over.

Man, these Days firings are so anti-climactic lately.

After the SSK, and then the DH's... meh. It's all so "been there, done that". There's hardly anything really to say about it anymore.

Where's the emoticon for yawning?

Of all the stupid crap that has went on at that show for the past few years, I just read this at another board where the news was gotten from the person who runs the official S&K board.

They are NOT getting a send-off. They will be mentioned from time to time, but they will just disappear. One day, they just will stop showing up on-screen and be treated like Mickey was for years until the part was recasted.

That is what will be done to this legacy couple.

Apparently, Steve and Kayla aren't getting an exit story AT ALL. That is according to the administrator of their board.

Okay, here's what's happening. Stephen and Mary Beth will not be getting an exit story AT ALL!!! Steve and Kayla will simply stop being on the show but the show will pretend they are still there because they will be mentioned by some of the other characters occasionally.

Okay then, THAT makes me feel bad.

One of the biggest supercouples of all time are just going to disappear???

I wanna Christian Bale all over Corday's ass.

What a way to treat fans and actors.

Ken Corday does not and has never given a damn about the fans of the show.

I wonder how the ratings will look when 3 fanbases stop watching because they are pissed their faves are gone? If Peter & Kristian are fired next, that's it. How will Days survive with just the younger set?

And for those who will say "hey. they did this back in the 80s".

One HUGE difference........Ted & Betty Corday were running the show, Al Rabin was the EP, and Sheri Anderson was writing the show.

I don't see anything CLOSE to that at Days this time around.

Roman- Its weird, Days fans must be extremely young (At least the Nielsen families) because I don't think this will cost the show any ratings-

And if this continues to happen, with no ratings dive, it is going to give the other shows the impetus to do the same damn thing- Well every show but Y&R and B&B.

I think Deidre Hall was right in that farewell video she made when someone asked her if she would return to daytime and she said

"I don't really think there is a "daytime" anymore.."

Range, I think you're dead on.

Maybe this is what the younger set want to see.

But what Dee said is spot on.........the daytime drama is dead and gone, replaced with poorly produced, poorly written shows that TIIC seem mystified to figure out why the soap audience has left in droves. They want to blame it on everything else but themselves.

as wrong as the no send off they are getting is...

as a huge steve/kayla hater i love it.

but i do feel for the fans of that couple. this is worse than the rushed john/marlena send off.

i will miss kayla, well more MBE and her awesomeness. hopefully she goes somewhere soon.

Brimike, the Days we know is gone.

And IA with you......no surprise, but it's still really fucked up.

I don't necessarily think that its the fans (ie the young fans) who have pushed DAYS into becoming a "Youth Soap" but rather DAYS becoming a "Youth Soap" has attracted an audience.

Hear me out, I love Deidre Hall, Hogestyn, Evans and Nichols have my respect too...but...having those 4 on the show really forced DAYS into stagnancy. If soaps are about evolution, Marlena and John and Patch and Kayla were like a pause button. All four of those characters had their era at least a decade ago...they were 'over' in the eyes of the majority and yet they stayed around. DAYS couldn't move forward because it kept trying to recapture the magic of the 80s...which is like lighting striking twice, it just doesn't happen.

Although Bo and Hope are a 25 year old supercouple, the actors are young enough that, somehow, they've stayed relevant and haven't gotten stale. I don't know how they've done it, but they have.

Look at whose left: Abe, Lexie, Kate, Victor, Nicole, Caroline, Lucas, Chloe and Maggie...none of these characters have ever been the 'star' of the show. They haven't had their 'moment' and so there is actually some life left in them, it's a treat to see Maggie actually get to do something other than hand out menus or have Abe and Lexie deal with Theo's autism (as hacked up as that storyline is, it's original). Additionally, the actors playing these characters are MUCH cheaper to employ and all of them took paycuts like Reckell and Alfonso did.

Allison Sweeney is the lone exception, she HAS been the star of the show and I think it's NBC's wish that she remain the star of the show because she's young and a draw for younger viewers.

Unlike Y&R, which has shifted emphasis around through different characters (by which I mean, almost everyone who has been with the show for 5+ years has had a lead storyline) or B&B which has a small cast that simply is always leading no matter what, DAYS focused on the fanbases and burnt out their supercouples.

I'm not saying it's good, I'm not even saying I like it...but I AM watching, so someone is doing something right.
