Gay characters on soaps

I'll give Otalia one thing, at least they gradually built up to their connection. Luke, on the other hand, fell for Noah within 5 minutes of meeting him and they got "together" rather abruptly. That relationship was severely botched from the beginning IMO.

To this day, I don't know why Luke loves Noah and what the hell he sees in him.

Well, maybe some day a headwriter will come and tell you.

But here's another possibility. What if Nuke was a horny little gay teen? And what if Noah was a horny little sexually repressed teen? And what if their initial attraction was nothing more than being gay?

And what if that is a shallow, stupid reason to stay in a relationship? And what if that is the point?

What if someday a relationship will come along that will knock them off their feet...and it will make sense?

You know, in the real world, this happens with boys and girls all the time. They meet and young and think they're in love and get married and then....they grow up...and wonder how they got this far. By then they have kids and ... well ... it's hard to extricate.

Why is a gay version of that impossible?

Again, rather than judging Nuke as it is, what if Nuke is a stepping stone in the evolution of Luke Snyder? That's what I think it is....

All of that is fantastic, and I wouldn't be against it at all. I'd be 100% for it, without a doubt.

But.

You know as well as I do that that is soooooooooo not ATWT's intentions regarding Luke at all. Come on now. And even if they tried to move him on to a more mature relationship, do you really think some people would have that at all?

Noah nursed Luke back to health after being paralyzed. Luke helped Noah realize he was gay. This is solid a foundation as many a relationship.

If it's not on my screen, "what if?" doesn't matter. The fact of that matter is, they've never been written that way.

Again, it's not playing out that way on screen. They present Luke and Noah as a caring and loving relationship, yet, I've yet to see why Luke feels anything for Noah and why he latched on to this boy within minutes of first meeting him.

This isn't actually what happened ... Luke was hostile to Noah upon first meeting him because he was fighting a crush. Their first few weeks had Luke being abrupt and blunt with Noah about their movie they were shooting for the station, and avoiding him. And crushes do happen just like that.

Then when he realized Noah was actually gay, there was suddenly a possiblity to the crush.

And then the love happened after Noah was so supportive of Luke after Luke was paralyzed.

Luke admitted to having "feelings" for Noah within days of meeting him. A crush I understand, but "feelings" when they barely knew one another?

Then when he realized Noah was actually gay, there was suddenly a possiblity to the crush. And then the love happened after Noah was so supportive of Luke after Luke was paralyzed.

The way I saw it, Luke constantly chased Noah down and was obsessed with getting him to want him. Again, I've yet to see why Luke fell so fast in love with Noah.

Yeah, you're right. But a boy can dream.

Noah nursed Luke back to health after being paralyzed. Luke helped Noah realize he was gay. This is solid a foundation as many a relationship.

Good point. Although that is not a foundation that I'd think would last. I actually think the exciting relationships would be the next relationship for these boys.

You're right, of course.

But why are Lily and Holden together? I mean, they met as teens and the initial attraction--especially for Lily--was that he was the sexiest cowboy she'd ever seen :). Now there are decades of shared history, but why--really--are they together?

It was chemical...that is a fine foundation for young love. It can be "insta". The characters might call it "love", but we know it's really hormones.

The trick is--are there then enough adventures that shared history substitutes when the chemistry wanes.

Honestly, I feel Luke and Noah have enough of that by now. So, maybe we don't know why they GOT together...but after Col Phobe and Ameera and Damian and... there is enough shared adversity that we understand why they STAY together.

(Now, I'm not defending the writing on this show. I'm sure it could be better. But I'm just saying that the rationale for why they got together becomes kind of moot after years of shared adventure, IMO).

That's basically what happened. Luke wasn't fighting no crush on Noah. There weren't any looks of longing or dreamy glances, he was just plain annoyed with the kid. He softened only a little bit, but then out of nowhere, the turning point was when he dropped a stack of videotapes and Noah stopped to help him pick them up. They hadn't even shared scenes together for a whole week prior to this particular episode, but that's when he all of a sudden found himself "falling for the wrong guy" again. Shenanigans! Shenanigans, I say! If it was just a shallow crush on a pretty face, he should have told Jade that. Not that he was "falling for..." him. Horrendous story!

They barely knew each other, and there was no indication whatsoever that Noah was gay until Luke began to badger him about it. When Luke came out to Noah, all Noah did was "That's cool" blah blah blah. If Noah was harboring secret homosexual dee-zyuhs in his lustful, deviant soul, I would think that it would have been obvious to the audience from the second Luke came out to him that Noah wasn't completely straight. But nope. Will Munson had more of a reaction than Noah did.

I can sort of see this, but still at the same time, they've only been together for about a year and a half. The memory of how sloppily they were put together is still very, very fresh in my mind. As far as Lily and Holden go, they were totally different. There were months between their first meeting and one beginning to declare feelings for the other. Lily spent time with Holden and his family...she felt comfortable with them, she saw the Snyders as an escape from the stuffy life she had with Lucinda. She and Holden spent time together. Luke and Noah, on the other hand...Luke treated Noah like [!@#$%^&*] for a few episodes, they started working on the Invisible Girl project, and then Luke dropped a stack of tapes. And then he started "falling for..." this guy, who, at this point, he had basically nothing in common with. And this all happened within less than three weeks.

WORD!

Oh dear, I remember the "falling for the wrong guy" crap - how rushed and contrived. Perhaps if we actually saw them develop any kind of meaningful connection it would have been believable, but it all fell flat, and made absolutely no sense at all.

OK, people, know that we've concluded that Luke & Noah is a cr*ppily written story, can we move on?

The funny thing is, GL probably won't be on long enough for any official romantic relationship to develop between Olivia and Nathalia. We'll never get to see them having sex, or anything of that nature. At the end of it all, time is no longer on the side of that story. I have very little faith in GL finding a new home.

Not that I necessarily care, I think Chappell's great acting has carried that storyline, other than that, I couldn't care any less about it.

Exactly, AMS.

The NUKERS that I've interacted with, since 2007 would be irate, if Luke or even Noah were allowed to "move on" and get with someone new, who was written and even portrayed as ***gasp*** "more mature" than either character.

That's why I truly believe that Luke and Noah will never be able to have the chance at a love triangle for that couple. TIIC that are in charge now, are just treading the nice, calm and smooth waters of trying to come up with "interesting and compelling" storylines for Noah and Luke to battle and face "together as a loving couple" that are completed within a month's timeframe.

I was so excited about the possibilities of Zac and Zoe's presence in Oakdale, way back in February 2009 and now, TIIC just screwed up that storyline with the fast pace of it, along with the continued crappy writing. They just came to town 3 maybe 2 weeks ago and within that timeframe, they've done everything that COULD have been spaced out for 4 months.

Let's see what TIIC come up for the next NUKE storyline, which will probably not be a love triangle, because NUKE have just dealt with the craziness of The Wonder Twins, along with Luke having to deal with Damian NOT being apart of his kidnapping (this time).

I just find the NUKE storylines absolutely boring and this is coming from a former NUKE fan, who finally saw the writing on the wall way back when Ameera was created in 2008.

Noah and Luke, especially a character that comes from a two legacy characters on the show, shouldn't be so boring.
