That call between President Obama and VP Harris happened on Wednesday, timed to drop, I suspect, after President Biden’s address from the Resolute Desk. (I just realized that upthread, I had described President Biden’s tone as “resolute”, which was a coincidence). There was also a suggestion that Obama wanted to wait until after Democrats had settled their dispute. Obama has always been known to be very (sometimes overly so) methodical and takes some time to weigh issues from every angle. I am surprised people don’t remember that he sometimes got criticized for taking too long to deliberate on an issue.

Yes, considering that Harris once campaigned for him (early) in the snow in Iowa, taking his time seemed a bit disappointing but this is the way he has always been.

After the GW Bush years of the executive branch getting into quagmire after quagmire, acting seemingly on instinct, making hasty decisions, Obama’s contemplative manner is probably what helped him get two terms.

The Vance couch memes are glorious, albeit entirely an Internet invention.

This is not.

setting aside the delay, the whole thing just has an odd, hokey vibe to it. even if the obamas were in different locations, there was more than enough time to record a proper endorsement.

here’s the ny times take:

Somehow, the Biden-turned-Harris campaign managed to make former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, once America’s coolest political couple, sound like parents in a Lifetime movie calling their child at summer camp.

wonder if there’s some subtext that will eventually emerge.

This race and any of these states could certainly change, but right now? Kamala is hunting him.

Meanwhile, Joe is putting in the work:

Politico has taken to paywalling their stuff, so as always use archive.is as needed.

This feels like an endpoint for ol' JD:

Any article referring to Jill Biden as a “Lady MacBeth” is …🙄

Clearly someone just trying to smear-campaign.

A lot can change... but I also need her to focus on states that usually swing red in the hopes of swinging them BLUE!

I don't think Kamala is campaigning in Minnesota. That's just her numbers there this week, which are up from Joe. I haven't seen a single poll where she is not closing on Trump fast.

Meanwhile, Mama Khan's watching some fool on YT rant and rave about how he can't see Kamala Harris leading troops into battle.  (One, that's not exactly the president's job; and two, as if Donald Trump, who's too stupid to duck from a would-be assassin's bullet, could.)

According to the Fox polls, the blue wall states are now almost entirely tied again in a head to head, with Kamala within 1-2 points in Wisconsin.
