The son also rises.   Donald Jr is a natural and hair gel aside I think if he would run for mayor of NY he could win.  He gave the best speech so far, better than the politicians, and I think that comes from being a New Yorker  learning how to hustle in business.  I think he has a future in politics if he wants one.   He is like the less mannered JFK Jr who doesn't have the taste to see that that hair gel just has to go.

That isn't quite the same.   Borrowing with the author's permission is allowed.  I don't think any speech is written without inspiration from somewhere, borrowing a thought or being inspired by something.   What the wife did was completely different in that she was basically giving whole parts of someone else's speech.  He seems to have just found a phrase catchy so he worked it in.

If given permission, sure. I didn't know if they did or not.

I don't think this or the Melania thing make much of a difference to the public or to polls. I just think it's sloppy. Con artists should be better at sanding down the edges.

I just have to say that the majority of the women I'm seeing at the Republican Convention are straight out of 1991 with their lacquered hair and blue eye shadow - it's a time warp of epic proportions.

Kimberly's speech...she didn't go Full Sheila, but she had many instances where you could have swapped 'Hillary' for 'Lauren' and it would have been a monologue Bill Bell would have been proud of.

I think that's the part that scares even Trump.

I'm with you, DD, and I'm with Vee: I don't think Trump ever intended to go this far, but he is too proud to admit as much and drop out.  Ergo, he's stuck playing out a narrative that, over time, has gotten away from him.

I wonder whether one of Y&R's writers from the Bell era did, indeed, write her speech.

    • I know there was one brief scene in the summer of 1989 where Lillian did mention Calla.. but in relation to her past relationship to Ross and it was to Roger while he was a patient at Cedars.  I think he was trying to pump her for information on Ross.. and for some reason, Calla's name came up.   I could see perhaps Beth mentioning that her mother Lillian was visiting Calla.. but not exactly giving any sort of details as to the going ons in Calla's life off screen.

    • They're neither great nor terrible AFAIK, but it is more a question of the streaming numbers in this day and age vs. actual TV airings. The Chibnall era reminded me much more of the crisis years, but I do think it's a very real possibility now as well due to the streaming bubble collapse affecting the show and its prospects.
    • ANYTHING to get her off the screen..she COULD have been interesting if she and Van had a few face offs..(there was a mild one of her going back to work...but I wanted something meatier "Bitch, I am Vanessa Chamberlain and I don't take advice from someone who followed the..career path you did!" I did like Alex's outright disdain for her.
    • Thanks @Vee for the commentary.    I haven’t even watched this season yet after  I couldn’t get past the couple episodes last season…like it was too Disneyified for my taste, although I did think it was a least better than the Chibnall era (but so is a lot of things). I’ll probably go back and binge it now. Hoping this season ends on a high note. I did read the ratings are terrible. As it stands I’m beginning to feel like what long time DW fans felt with S26 in 1989.
    • Yes, they are all on contract. Next.
    • I also never understood Alex's friendship with Sonni or keeping the secret of Marah's paternity.  Not exactly heartbroken about Ms. Sally being ushered to the Hereafter.

I'm sorry but I'm a glutton for punishment. Would love to see this woman OWNING the canvas. Telling off Leslie who tells her she's the head b!tch.
    • And in case anyone is confused; Rusty was hired by HB to work undercover and infiltrate some gang sabotaging Lewis.
