I think it's going to implode for a lot of reasons. Trump was never prepared to go all the way and he doesn't like the responsibility, the pressure, the need for money, the concept of losing or having his failures magnified for the next several months. Even the convention is basically being thrown together with whoever he can found, including (let's say it) F-list soap stars.

One thing I'm wondering about the tragedy in Nice, perhaps someone can answer this:

Did local officials close of automobile traffic at the Promenade des Anglais?

The times that I've gone to see the Macys Fireworks display in NYC, all traffic except pedestrian traffic was closed off. Entire streets were blocked off.  If they don't do this in Nice, I'm wondering why not?

The Turkey situation makes me very nervous, especially as they are trying to say the US has a role in the coup (I tend to believe those who think Erdogan may have staged it all), and they are so intertwined with efforts against ISIS.

If only anyone in power in recent years had realized the devastating consequences of playing silly macho games and colonialism delusions with the Middle East.

Well, in terms of whether Erdogan may have staged it, it can't be ruled out, sadly, as he has been looking for ways to stay in power past his term limit, including ammending the constitution to allow him to do this.

Unfortunately, the military, or the segment of the military that staged the coup, (as I understand that many in the military were said to oppose the coup) just proved that they are willing to subvert the democratic will by trying to force out a democratically elected official. Coups and military skirmishes in Turkey have occurred with amazing frequency as it seems that neither respecting term limits nor separation of powers has become a staple of Turkey rule of law.

In many countries, Turkey included, the military has an outsize influence, to the point where they feel they can come in an oust a leader who is democratically elected (however well meaning) and in Turkey and many other countries, Presidents and Prime Ministers can feel that they are under no obligation to observe the rule of law or carry out the will of the people who elected them- they are open to manipulating their Constitution to serve their personal needs, being chauvinistic and egotistical enough to believe that they are they the only ones capable of running the country and they are not above schemes, manipulation or strong-armed maneuvers to achieve this goal.

I feel like General Hospital is being treated unfairly here. This guy hasn't been it's star in 20 years. I'm only kind of kidding.

A few years ago I decided to stop using the world "surreal" because it had become so overused, but I feel like this election is getting more surreal by the day.  It's really shaken my view of the US as a stable country.

Well, so far the Lone Survivor seemed coked out or loaded and this poor soldier's mom is... not well.

These jamokes from Benghazi are just rambling on.

And Trump is - yes - ON FOX NEWS. Calling in for an interview during the convention!

    • I am wholeheartedly enjoying this show. I just haven't been able to post as much as I used to. But yes, this episode needs to be submitted for the EMMYs and there needs to be wins. I better NOT see Y&R, DAYS, or B&B winning in categories over BTG. I feel like the only show that is giving BTG an ounce of competition this season is GH.
    • I never thought the day would come, but too much MM for me.
    • I think it may be that the character was brought in for a specific purpose and then became popular with viewers, and the show didn't know how to respond.  The choice to pivot away from Simon/India may show that you are right and they didn't care for her...although pairing them up may be another sign they didn't care for her. I don't connect well with this period but it does make me happy seeing some of these characters before the great purge and some of the surprises - I'd forgotten the wonderful Maureen O'Sullivan popped up to be bumped off. So typical of soaps by this point, but it doesn't grate as much as later on when Y&R would bring on any random cast member from Small Wonder. I'm also amazed at this time at just how much money the show must have had. The costumes for the Founder's celebration in summer 1984, or whatever it was, looked gorgeous.
    • Which officially started to feel that way today with them hearing each other out as they confronted each other at the same time.    Same. He was even catching himself when he was about to go overboard or do those tics that people don't seem to like. He failed a bit at the end, but he carried. It makes me think about a month back when it was discussed that the actor was better in other things he's been in. And I questioned then if that meant that he was playing Martin more intentionally. I questioned that briefly again today because he was giving.
    • I really like the actress who plays Margo. Don't know  her name. I'm so hesitant to google anyone because I don't want to know the length they were on the show. I've watched two episodes and I have to say that the show does not feel as dated as other shows. I tried to watch Ryan's Hope a few weeks back and some of the acting was a bit rough. EON is a lot more natural which amuses me considering it's a mystery/thriller show.
    • She’s INCREDIBLE. I’m so glad you enjoyed this my friend.
    • I loved SOAP OPERA NOW because they  did detailed analysis of the ratings.
    • I love MKA and feel like they never used her to her full potential with India. The character seemed to exist merely to fight with Alex and blackmail men into marrying/sleeping with her. As if! Then adopting an orphan right out of Little Orphan Annie...somebody BTS didn't like her, I think.
    • I mean...Sarah Michelle Gellar did go on to be a household name and food guru. I can see Ambyr doing the same with the same talent.  Amen.
