just wondering where did this animosity come from when it come's to the on going rivalry between CBS and ABC? is it more between Brian Fronz (ABC) and Barbra Bloom (CBS) or is it just pure competition. I don't think their is any animosity with NBC. maybe Toups could help

There is a big difference in the way both channels do and handle their soaps.

ABC: Too stylized, too shock-oriented, too youth-oriented, too fast paced, too many "supercouples"

CBS: Too conservative, too character-driven, too old-centered, too slow-paced, too serious.

Of course, CBS is trying to copy the style of the ABC soaps--because those are doing so well.

GH has the best overall cast in daytime, IMO. However they just don't use their cast effectively. Yes they have a few over the top scenery chewers like Laura Wright and Brandon Barash, but other than that, Mark Teschner is the be all and end all of soap opera casting. The other two ABC soaps are either piss-poor or all over the place when it comes to casting.

CBS soaps are generally all over the place in terms of casting. Though, up until Latham, Y&R was very solid in terms of casting, and GL was very good as well up until a few years ago. B&B and ATWT's casting have always been deeply polarizing to me.

In terms of overrated fanbases, the ABC actors win hands down. CBS has some fanbases, but it's not on the scale as the ABC soaps and especially DAYS. There's the saying that ABC soaps have rabid fans, DAYS has even more rabid fans, and CBS soaps have viewers, and I think that generally holds true.

Y&R's longtime domination in the male demos has always interested me, and I know not all of those men watching are gay. I mean, the ABC soaps try so hard with their stunts and violence (well, GH at least) to get that male demographic, and they never do. Y&R's always been strong with male viewers for some reason.

    • Today was a short one. Only 33 minutes.  The ‘Part One’ graphic at the beginning was pretty interesting though. I didn’t expect them to do something like that.  I like how everything was focused around John and his family and friends. Again, the acting and the dialogue was very well done and well written. And I love that they were able to incorporate Drake’s, “swing for the fences” phrase into the script. It was nice seeing everyone interact with each other, especially characters who don’t often share scenes together. It felt like every character was part of a big family or community. Plus, an outdoor funeral in June makes a lot more sense than an outdoor funeral in December.  But yeah, it’s very, very strange that Will isn’t at the funeral, especially since we know that

I would much rather he had been there today. And, where’s Anna too? And Jack and Jennifer? What was the point of bringing them all back if they weren’t going to attend the funeral? I expected Steve to want to close down BlackPatch, though I’d rather he just retire and let Paul take it over. But I like that Kayla was there to comfort him. I wonder if he’s going to change his mind at some point.  It was nice seeing Shane again too. Now, he just needs to have more scenes with his son lol but I enjoyed seeing him comfort Marlena. I’m not really sure about his interaction with Cat though? Was it really necessary for this to happen now, at John’s funeral? They could’ve waited a little longer to introduce this story arc.  Btw, was Tate bleeding from his head in his first scene with Arianna?

    • Now this strikes me as funny. I have it up on my acct. The thing is I only have S2. Didn't want either 1 or 3.  Perhaps I should just list all of these that I have up.  Parodies: Dirty Sexy Money, Filthy Rich Incomplete: The Monroes, All That Glitters, Falcon Crest (have all just not all up), Once & Again S2 only Complete: Models Inc, Pasadena, Pacific Palisades, Paper Dolls, Flamingo Road
    • This is wonderful! Thank you for posting this! I loved the first two seasons and never got to see the final season when they cancelled the DVD release. I've been hoping this popped up on streaming but no luck. Happy I'll finally get to see how it ended!

    • In case it is of interest to anyone here, I have digital copies (computer files, mp4 etc.) of all of the episodes. And, besides having the files they are all up on my usual video hosting site, acct name: shallotpeel, channel it is in: Primetime Soaps and file names like  Flamingo Road S1E15 Hurricane Flamingo Road was a primetime soap on NBC by Lorimar Productions. 2 seasons. 1980-1982. Morgan Fairchild, Barbara Rush. Developed by Rita Lakin.
    • Arguably DAYS OF OUR LIVES has been brilliant lately & definitely was last week. But, here I am with nitpick & technicalities. This was the only misstep but it was just a stupid thing that should have been caught. Deidre Hall as Marlena has this one problematic line, "It didn't matter how many identities you had, I always knew exactly who you were, you were the man who saved my life." - Marlena, DAYS, 6-2-25 Unfortunately the flashback closest to it was when Marlena was on the phone, terrified because she thought he was Stefano. Yes, it's true that the line is not accurate. There were many times when she did not feel the way she is claiming because of whatever was going on in story with his 'retconned to hell & back' identity & origin story. Does it keep the whole week from being called excellent? Nope.

Newsom is a craven opportunist, but his comments today were exactly how better people need to handle Trump.
