Joel Crothers has finally appeared in this batch of episodes. I first saw him this week on Dark Shadows and that must have summoned him on Edge of Night. Miles and Nicole are back in the swing of things although they have not had much to do.

I still don't like Draper although April is a bit of a loon at the moment with wanting to adopt Raven and Logan's baby. She also slapped Draper and there was no mention of it  later on unless there will be. Ann Williams is such a good actress that I'm on Margo's side even when I should not be. Eliot is such a creep but he's an enjoyable one.

Cliff is such a pest to Deborah although I do like the actor. He's actually attractive so I wish they would stop writing him as such an HR nightmare. I know I shouldn't, but I like the scenes with Cliff and Deborah. They have more chemistry than Deborah and Owen. The actor playing Owen is fine, but he does not have anything with Frances Fisher. Fisher is another great presence on the show.

The movie has not gotten far yet. Paige and Brian have been absent for a while. Margo has now been drawn into the movie plot and Nola is more concerned with exposing Owen and Deborah.  Farley Granger has been MIA but I'm assuming he returns.

Logan and Geraldine had a fantastic scene about what to do about the baby. Lois Kibbee is such a treasure.

Still enjoying the show.

I thought he was very cute too, and a likeable presence even though on paper Cliff was a prick. I wonder if he was well-liked by viewers or someone at the show as there's a point in these episodes where he could have been written out and was not.

@chrisml Isn't remarkable that, on a soap whose brand is built on twists and mysteries, that Raven's last straw was as simple as Logan saying that she was incapable of loving Jamey.  In the episode when Raven exit's and leaves Jamey with April, I can remember feeling the subtext that Raven is also trying to talk herself into leaving him behind.

There's so much in that little scene.  She's trying to stick it to Logan for saying she was a bad mother.  She's both granting April's wish, and damning her with the old adage of being careful what she wished for.  And, she's hinting to Draper that she's going to boff his father.

It remains my favorite scene, and it still blows my mind that was not the end of that episode.

I hope they give him more to do than just be a prick as you say. I can see how viewers would like him because the actor is so charming despite the character being such an absolute pain.

I would agree. And there was also the undercurrent of Raven and Draper sort of flirting with each other. The actors play that attraction and it worked so well in that scene.

To be fair, they were only recently step-siblings.  Their parents married within the past few years.  And, Draper's father Ansel was not coy about the fact that he married Raven's mother, Nadine, for the money.

And, Raven's sort of sticking it to April that not only can she have a baby (April has a heart condition that makes it difficult for her to carry a child to term), she could also have April's man, if she wanted him.

I watched another batch of episodes and I have a sense of dread. I fear they are setting up a murder storyline with one of my favorite characters as the victim. I don't know if that would be considered a spoiler so won't reveal the character. If that's so, i will be extremely disappointed as this person has done Emmy caliber work and would create such a void on the show.  If I'm right, I think I know who the suspect will be and I would rather the suspect be murdered.

Joel Crothers's Miles has had more of a presence with his wife Nicole and I enjoy both actors. Crothers is just so yummy and charismatic. Don't know who plays Nicole but I like their relationship.

Ann Williams has been phenomenal as Margo. Margo is desperate to keep Eliot and make April happy. Williams had a nice scene with Kibbee's Geraldine about Logan and the baby. Eliot has been so slimy and menacing but he's so watchable. April and Draper are still fighting over the baby and something has happened to April to land her in the hospital. I just keep hoping she'll kick Draper out. The man is such a pain. Raven needs to come back and sleep with him. She can liven him up.

Ann Flood and Frances Fisher had a wonderfully written scene where Deborah confesses her feelings for Owen. The writing and acting for this scene was first-rate. I want more of Flood. It's good to see Fisher getting more to do. Steve and his low cut shirts have been sidelined lately. The writers are setting up a Deborah/Nola confrontation.

Paige and Brian are still pretty much an afterthought. The movie plot is coming along nicely and there was a great episode where Margo had a party for the movie at her penthouse.

Still enjoying the show.

To me... it hasn't even really evolved into the interesting part. Wait till Nola gets out of control.

Watched another batch of episodes.

Ann Williams is just sensational. How this woman did not win an Emmy I will not an understand. Her confrontation with Eliot over April's fall was just spectacular. April's pregnancy storyline is a bit eh. I still don't care for Draper. April and Draper just don't it for me. There was a scene between Logan and April where all was forgiven about the custody for Jamie and that was a bit odd. Did Slesar just get tired of that plot point? Seems like they may be setting up a Logan/April/Draper triangle. Cliff now works as an assistant D.A.? Was this always the case? It seemed like he worked for Logan's campaign and then he worked with Deborah and Steve. Nice to see Cliff do more than pester Deborah.

Deborah and Owen have no chemistry but the inevitable Deborah/Nola confrontation will be fun. Cliff is still sideline and Steve is still wearing low-cut shirts. Nola and Owen has great confrontation about Deborah. First-rate writing and acting. Paige and Brian are still mooning over each other. I'm enjoying the setup for the film.

Miles, Nicole, Geraldine, Steve, and Nancy have been pretty much MIA in these episodes.

Cliff was Logan's protégé, from the time he was a legal clerk up and until he became ADA.

I think you have to have seen Deborah's father for that relationship to make sense, it is very Oedipal.  Mr. Saxon was a charming mobster and was briefly involved romantically with Geraldine.

It hardly touches on EON.

It's all about her spiritual journey where she tries just about everything on offer-past life experiences, spirit guides, various therapies-you name it-she's up for it.

Everything except just using some common sense to deal with her issues(which aren't that different to most of us).

She comes across to me as sweet, but nutty.

Thank you for that. I came into the show at a confusing time for Cliff because he just floats from one story to the next and his job appears to change. I like him even though I know I probably shouldn't since he's such a creep at times. I might have to go back and watch some of the previous stories because I'm missing some important pieces of Deborah and Geraldine's backstories.

Thank you for the explanation. I'm not sure I have the patience for that so I think I'll give it a miss. I must have bought it with the idea that it was going to cover her time on the soaps.

I'm a broken record at this point, but I'm more and more outraged that Ann Williams did not win an Emmy. I actually broke my rule of looking up EDGE actors on IMDB just to see if she had been nominated and/or won. (I avoided looking at her tenure on the show so I wasn't spoiled). Margo's scenes in the aftermath of Eliot's betrayal have been breathtakingly brilliant. Williams was robbed of the Emmy. I had never heard of this actress before I started my watched of EON and that's a shame because she is just superb.

    • Is it true that, after the transition from CBS to ABC in 1975, Edge of Night had a very short-lived very unliked "new" opening theme?  I understand it was rather quickly replaced by the Cortner and Barranco melody that lasted until the show was cancelled.  Is this true?  And if so, does anyone have audio or video of the short-lived and reviled "new" opening theme song?
    • Greg Sumner intro in season 5 as the new villain was the finishing touch on Knots Landing going full-on 1980s primetime soap. William Devane had a commanding presence from his first episode, but I don't think he took over the show.
    • Interesting.  Does CHCH have this as an arrangement?  Or is CBS unaware that that CHCH didn't preempt for Memorial Day, and is still ahead?
    • Olivia did have a good reason for what she did. Still, I'd think she would be slower to pass such harsh judgment on Lois since she knows what she herself lived through. I'm hoping we get a softer Olivia when she reflects on everything.   I'm going to disagree with this. I don't think the character has been ruined and trashed, and I don't think it's impossible to come back from this. Yes, a great case can be made that this is out-of-character for Lois, but I can also make a case for people doing out-of-character things when life deals us crazy and impossible moments. Because of the story we're getting from this, I think it was worth putting Lois into this situation.

    • Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum but I have been a soap opera fan for only a few years. I started watching General Hospital in the 2010s on tv due to boredom. It wasn't good but it was okay enough to get curious about the soap opera genre. When I eventually got internet I started researching 90s and 2000s General Hospital. I have started only recently researching 80s and 90s Days of Our Lives. I was shocked when I found out that a black soap opera is going to be made, especially because the genre as a whole was on a downward trajectory. Now here I am as a black woman seeing a soap opera from the start. I'm all for Beyond the Gates succeeding.

    • That was so surprising to me today. I didn’t see any spoilers that this was coming up so I loved it!
    • Well, VI was leaving, and while Long admits that killing him was stupid...I do agree with letting him go with a big bang...body missing.  They spent a lot of time and money on Infinity, (which I think might have gotten a bit of a better reputation had it not been the harbinger of a total tonal change with the Bauers and Reardon's decimated and its all Reva and the Lewis and the weird people hanging out around Kyle) so they needed it to end dramatically. They could have done so much more with having Alex go after Kyle and Billy, but that ends and she starts moping over weird and boring Simon. With Kurt..what were you going to do.. cute but boring and perfect and with ties to no one (they had a nice little thing where Bea took him under her wing when everyone left but then she did too..) If they had the balls they would have had Rick and Mindy jump in the sack ( I know, Mindy should have learned birth control by then) I would have had it be Mindy who knows about Rick's drug use and she tries to help him...(not that nobody who came and went) of course, Kurt and Roxie misunderstand..that on top of her bad Sampson Girl thing leaves him to leave her temporarily, and in grand soap tradition, Rick and Mindy console each other (again, I would write it that they always really did, and Mindy rushed into things with Kurt) and she gets knocked up, and loving Rick but also Kurt she chooses to believe it is Kurts (which I could see Princess Mindy doing "My life is perfect and I will it that way, this is Kurts kid")But, she had the dumb model thing, then she burned down the house he was building, she tried to get prefers and he dies (but also Kobe was the one who built him up, then she was gone when he was let go.) Ross believe it or not is one of the last of the "old guard" characters, beside Ed (who is now FauxEd) and Maureen, and Henry and Van (who is ties to being the Lewis family mope.) JVD has made jokes that they didn't write him out as they simply forgot that he was there! Reva doesn't even call her mother when she comes back! I never saw the use of Sarah but they could have reunited them and sent her and Hawk out of town together. Hell, I don't like the Shaynes but she should have mentioned Roxie and Rusty.  The weird thing is that Dylan had a ton of story and was very important to the Van/Bridget baby custody story. By the time Reva comes back Dylan had only been gone a year so its not like people wouldn't know him..( I liked him and Bridget together...) So he comes back in 97 and acts like it's no big deal Reva is alive so they must have talked off camera. But Reva was too busy squacking about that annoying toothy Marah and blank Shayne to talk about anything else.  It's not quite as weird as Van, who obsessed over Peter, comes back to SF and never mentions him...i.e. "I saw Peter this weekend and he so barely remembers me but he is happy with Bridget and Dylan...")
