Members YRBB
I agree completely--his vision always translated into this kind of feeling you got from the show. It had a very distinct air about it, and I'm not talking about the way they lit it, or the writing or acting style. It was something else, which I can't exactly describe....B&B also eventually found that "air" (for a lack of a better word). But it wasn't half as appealing as Y&R was. Btw, I do not think that melodramatic dialogue equals bad dialogue (I'm sorry if that's not what you meant and it was just about JFE) but then again Bell always did manage to make even the craziest things seem plausible. Members YRBB
Oh, don't even mention Mulcahey, it's a travesty! I used to be able to recognize his scripts from the very first scene of the episode--I guess I still do, but now I just vomit instead of being excited to be watching yet another episode which I was sure would be good. Those same Y&R writers did miracles for B&B a few months back--but, just like William J. Bell made everything awesome, his son's presence is completely destroying B&B as is his so-called vision. Members Sylph
Your previous post and this one just go to prove that Janice sucks. Or is approaching mediocre. It all plummeted so quickly in terms of... Everything.
Members alphanguy74
It's my opinion that some of the problems with emotion not being conveyed ina scene is due to many factors, and not all of them due to writing. Firstly, I think scenes simply being too SHORT are one problem, camera work is another BIG factor. Lighting is another. If you watch any Y&R episode from the 70's, the emotion of the actors just slaps you right across the face. Much of this is due to John Conboy's production style, with DARK background sets, extreme closeup shots, and slow, lingering reaction shots. but it WORKED, and although teh sets were lightened a bit in the 80's, no major change took place. And today, inappropriate use of background music is a big detriment. The right pieces aren't being used, and background music is not being used ENOUGH. And the newer pieces that have this "modern" rock type feel ahve GOT to go, or only be used at crimson lights... they used one of those pieces the other day in a scene with Gloria and Jeffrey... RIDICULOUS. It also depends on the caliber of actor. Someone mentioned The Raul/Brittany accident scenes falling flat. When it came to teen SL's, you had great, emotional performances turned in from Ashley Bashioum (she was GREAT at playing emotion simmering beneath the surface) and David Tom.... but let's face it, Lauren Woodland couldn't play in that league. David Lago could go there... but I think if his costar couldn't bring it, then neither could he.
