I'm looking to buy a mac operating system because I'm fed up with vista. If you currently have a Mac OS or some other operating system can you give me some pro's and con's about how they run for you. I looked on apples website about the Mac OS but I want input from people who already have the system. Thanks in adavance.

I got my vista last summer and it has pretty much gone downhill which is why I am looking for a new OS. Internet explorer keeps shutting down because it keeps saying its not compatible with adobe flash, it gave me a way to fix it still shuts down for no reason; its not compatible with my older video games;for whatever reason Internet explorer keeps popping up over and over until its just too many pages so I have to restart my computer; it asks my permission for everything which is annoying; media center which came with my computer keeps shutting down also, I don't think thats compatible with vista; windvd has issues also; I have a long problem/solution log with a whole lot of problems but no solutions. Its not a virus because I run my virus program every friday and nothing shows up.

I just a sony Vaio lappy with Vista w/ SP 1 and so far its been excellent. I think those issues were more of an early adopter type of thing.

I HATE Macs and OSX. However I love my iPod. Was gonna get an 3G iPhone but its not much of an improvement and there are all these restrictions that both Apple and AT&T are putting on it so I'm turned off from it.

I've used mac a little and I know when vista was announced I saw it as Microsoft totally ripping off the mac look (which I suppose they're entitled to do). I love my XP Prp but I bought a pc that came with Vista Home Premium and it's an adjustment but the only real issues I've had with it to date is that some of my music files disappeared (this also happens in XP) and that I sometimes can't delete a file because it says it needs an administrator (even though I am logged in as one). I found a workaround.

One of my concerns about delving into Vista was the compatibility issue. I know it probably won't run some of my older software so I kept my pc with XP. I use Firefox as the default browser on the Vista pc but I do use IE and haven't encountered your problem but I would probably figure out how to start from scratch with IE to see if that resolves the problem. There are workarounds for certain games. And you can stop it from asking permission for everything if you want (that's supposed to be for extra security but there is a way to disable it). There may be some sort of resource conflict going on and it's kind of hard to pinpoint. My XP pc used to shut down for no reason and I thought there might be a conflict with my modem but I could never isolate the problem and it eventually just stopped shutting down.

Just keep in mind that if you do switch over to mac that you will have to get mac compatible software since your windows based software won't work on it.

Well for starters I want it to stop shutting down for no reason and I want to have an OS that is supports all programs. I mainly use my computer for internet, pictures, videos, games, and downloads. I actually tried out a mac at Bestbuy and I really liked the software/computer, I think what I will do is gut it out with vista with my laptop, but consider buying a imac since I will be getting a desktop for christmas anyway.

I currently use safari and I have an ipod with itunes and I never have any problems with that.

The text I bolded tells me that Windows is what you need. The main problem I have with Macs is that practically all the software I need is made for Windows.

Vista works fine for me, especially since the SP came out. But if you really find it annoying, maybe you should try the latest version of XP Pro.

Safari browser is also available for Windows. So is iTunes.

I found where to turn that off, its called protected mode. But when you turn it off you can't do tabs anymore, its not even an option anymore when you right click it and it keeps bugging you to turn protected mode on. I don't know which is worst.

I don't know what this refers to, I presume IE, and there's a useful add-on called IE7Pro, which is freeware and it might be of some use to you.

However, I think Safari will be enough for you - it's fast and it has tabbed browsing.

I need to do some more reading on this but my best understanding is that UAC is supposed to prevent programs that are not supposed to modify the system from doing so without consent. I'd rather have it on until I learn more about it. I had someone tell me that when he uses IE and closes one tab that it closes the whole browser down but that doesn't happen to me and he hasn't figured out what causes it.

Safari is a nice browser but I won't use it with Windows until Apple addresses the security vulnerabilities plus there isn't an ad blocker for windows and I dislike browsing without an ad blocker. Norton no longer includes one so I use IE7 Pro and I downloaded an ad blocker for Firefox.

It's a pain but you might be able to sort out what causes the conflict. Maybe it's more of a laptop vs. desktop issue with some of the software and requirements.
