That's the smile! And wow, has Vanessa come a long way. Something tells me we ALL would have jumped down her throat during her first year on GH if the Internet was then what it is now. Talk about newbie. Alvin, was that Claire who wrote that?
June 3, 200817 yr Member Alvin, was that Claire who wrote that? Yes, it was. Sonny and Brenda was her brainchild.
June 3, 200817 yr Member Yes, it was. Sonny and Brenda was her brainchild. I remember a lot during those years, but it all kinda blurs together into one great big umbrella story in my mind (even though I know it wasn't) Brenda was just getting over Jagger rejecting her when she met Sonny, right? Was Karen still working at Sonny's strip club at the time? (Sorry... don't mean to get off-topic. I'll stop after this. )
June 3, 200817 yr Member Brenda was just getting over Jagger rejecting her when she met Sonny, right? Was Karen still working at Sonny's strip club at the time? I think Karen was out of the strip club and with Jagger by the time Sonny and Brenda were being set-up. Brenda was a bit of a schemer when she was first introduced to the show, a year or so before Labine took over the head-writing duties. Karen was her rival, and she didn't like it much that Jagger preferred Karen over her. Another great S&B clip, their escape in Puerto Rico. A lot of people accused Claire of taking away the adventure aspect of GH when she came on, but when she did adventure stories, they rocked. And this location shoot is just fantastic! Wendy Riche is severely missed in daytime. "> " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355">

Now THIS is General Hospital. God, Luke and Sonny are just shells of their former selves at this point. Is there anybody NOT phoning it in on GH these days? It's like all my favorite actors should be hospitalized for exhaustion. I think most of the mob characters, as popular as they are, need a break. I don't know if Brenda/Vanessa would have been so popular had she NOT left the show, and we all realized the void that was left, and then come back years later in a HIGHLY publicized return. If Brenda were still on continuously, she'd probably be perceived the same way Carly on ATWT is perceived. We all love her, but ENOUGH. Could you imagine if Maurice left, and then three years from now, came back in a HUGE, publicized story? The fans would go NUTS.
June 3, 200817 yr Member I *TOTALLY* remember Puerto Rico. Now THIS is General Hospital. God, Luke and Sonny are just shells of their former selves at this point. You know what the funny thing is? Tony Geary said that even though he respecred Claire a lot, he thought she didn't understand Luke or get what GH was about. He praised Guza for understanding Luke, and we know he wasn't too fond of Richard Culliton at all. Is there anybody NOT phoning it in on GH these days? It's like all my favorite actors should be hospitalized for exhaustion. It's funny because it's the same damn characters in lead story after lead story, I'd be burnt out as hell if I were them. You know Frons and Guza would move heaven and earth if it meant Vanessa would return full-time. They'd also make her the *female star* of the show, you know they'd kick Carly to the backburner for Brenda. Vanessa's 2002 return brought a million viewers back to GH, placed them at #1 in the demos, and those viewers left when she left. I do think Sonny and Brenda were perhaps the last true supercouple daytime ever produced. Not only did they have an insane fanbase, but they even got some mainstream attention. I can't say the same for other big couples since. Had Vanessa stayed, we'd be sick of her a long time ago of course... Edited June 3, 200817 yr by Y&RWorldTurner
June 3, 200817 yr Member Figures I come here and see this love for Sonny and Brenda. I almost don't want her to come back because they will ruin the memory of what greatness they were. I don't want them destroyed. Clink Boom was the last time I was really and truly surprised.

He praised Guza for understanding Luke, and we know he wasn't too fond of Richard Culliton at all. I think TONY sometimes blows Luke up into more than he is. (ducking for cover now) I'm not sure he's capable of NOT rewriting his scripts, or recognizing when someone writes Luke well. He's STILL rewriting everything under Guza, no matter what he says to the press. But I agree with him about Richard's take on the character. It's funny because it's the same damn characters in lead story after lead story, I'd be burnt out as hell if I were them. Couldn't agree more. I don't blame them in the slightest. Had Vanessa stayed, we'd be sick of her a long time ago of course... Exactly. Because Guza only knows how to focus on a small group of characters. I think Sonny and Jason are vital to GH, but there's no reason they need to be on every day. It's just unnecessary. Brenda would just be the new Carly, and we'd all be saying STFU. Thing is, when Vanessa returned, I feel like the show was pretty balanced. So it's not like Guza's incapable of telling stories on a balanced show. But he's clearly exhausted himself. June 3, 200817 yr Member Thing is, when Vanessa returned, I feel like the show was pretty balanced. So it's not like Guza's incapable of telling stories on a balanced show. But he's clearly exhausted himself. We have the master EP that was Wendy Riche to thank for the balance of Guza's first two stints. Had she not been there to control his obvious tendencies, GH would've been what it is now. Also, that first stint had the great and underused Karen Harris as Guza's Co-HW. When Vanessa returned, a lot of the "vets" were still shown for more than 5 seconds a year. GH was in a sort of transition, from the terror McTavish and JFP had caused for a year before as well. Then, Guza and Pratt came in, and refocused on characters that were popular. Of course, when Brenda returned, Syke and Carly were painted as desperate women who'd do anything to hang on to a man. But man, did my Robin Christopher rock on her first two years on GH or what?
June 4, 200817 yr Member Tony loves Guza. Its that simple. He didnt like luke the family man and loves how guza has made it poor luke forced to ahve this family life, IMHO.
June 4, 200817 yr Member Tony loves Guza. Its that simple. He didnt like luke the family man and loves how guza has made it poor luke forced to ahve this family life, IMHO. That makes total sense. Although I do wish there was some kind of evolution in Luke's character. He's not 1984 Luke. He can be a family man and STILL be a rogue. It is possible. But I do see your point, JP. It makes sense that Tony would rather play the guy who ended up stuck with a family to raise himself, as opposed to the one who wanted it. Most actors would.

Personally i think TG doesnt like that Luke Spencer is more famous than Tony Geary is.

Nine out of ten GH fans would say 90's GH is the show's second Golden Era, right behind the early-mid 80's. But everyone's entitled to their opinion, even Tony Geary.
