Members ian
I have no problem with Gay marriage, in fact the gay marriage legislation in Canada passed on my birthday, coincidentally, last year or 2 years ago or something like that - but at the same time as gay rights should be respected as should freedom of religion. If some churches are for gay marriage - then they should, but at the same time they have their opinions... you know what though my friend raised a good point once.... I said "why would gay people want to get married in a church, isn't that like doing drugs in front of your parents? Knowing they'll disapprove yet doing it anyway?" and my friend (a lesbian) said "yeah but that's like saying why would black people want to sit at the front of the bus just because the white man doesn't want them to." So I was like ... ouch Pretty good analogy and shut me up quick.

Members TC
It's not all about you though, is it. It's about people who might want the option. And your opinion may change as you get older. In my 20's I couldn't fathom the idea of monogamy let alone marriage, still have conceptual problems with monogamy, but I deal and have a better life for it. And Civil Unions do not offer the same legal advantages as marriage. They would if your state legislature were willing to change every law that mentioned marriage to include Civil Unions. It's cheaper to just call it marriage.
Members DevotedToAMC
At first, I thought civil unions offered the same legal protections as marriage does but it does not...a marriage can be dissolved anywhere whereas a civil union must be dissolved in the state where you got it. The problem with couples who come to CA or MA or NJ to marry (same sex couples) is that, once they return to their home state, the state has the right under DOMA to nullify the marriage.
