Michael Logan Perfectly Sums of Y&R's Current State

A Logan Riff: Where Have Y&R's Epic Stories Gone?

I'm liking the babe-geezer romance of Sabrina and Victor on The Young and the Restless, but why the snoozy setup? Outta nowhere, Victor has become an avid art collector (Sabrina's his consultant), leading to weeks of pretentious art talk, museum visits, even cameos by real-life artists. This isn't a plot! It's barely a pseudosituation, and the show has way too many of those lately. (Will Karen conquer her stage fright? Who will take an ad in "Restless Style" magazine?) What happened to all the emotionally epic, high-fever stories that made Y&R such a landmark? This soap has somehow lost its opera. — Michael Logan

LOL! Someone who commented on Logan's article is after my heart!

Hey Logan call Nancy Curlee and Beg her to return to daytime!! Her sublime storytelling is just what Y&R needs. The greatest actress ever on daytime-the late, great Beverlee McKinsey-sang her praises!

Cry if you have to. No one will think less of you. Its for the good of daytime and it's fans.

"This soap has somehow lost its opera"

That sums it up. Y&R now is just a bunch of sh*t happening. There's nothing long term, nothing seems to have a consequence, nobody is moving forward (or backward). It's like soap opera purgatory. It isn't bad...it's just not any good either.

The emotion has been sucked out of Y&R. It's just a whole lot of plot and I don't understand it because the show was so improved during the Fi Core weeks...to those who hate Kay Alden...at least she understood long term plotting, you may have hated what she wrote, but you've got to admit that she did have a long term projection.

Logan is right though, NOTHING is happening on this show. Maria is like traditional version of JER, the plotting is all wrong and the dire pace isn't helping things.

The show isn't technically bad and no damage is being done to its core, but the stories are all wrong and there's no movement. Something needs to do done to spice this show up soon. By the looks of it, both Maria and Josh Griffith need to be gone for that to happen.

Correct. However, Nancy Curlee is not coming. Yet.

Question for DaytimeFan: apart from Kay Alden, is there any other HW suited for Y&R in your opinion?

For the first time I have to agree..............

Y&R right now has lost its self. The Y&R I loved is somewhat gone....:( Even though Alden might not be the best she made Y&R standout.

Well, this standout is somewhat bugging me. I mean, Y&R was always a boringly great show.

Yes, even though the traditional Y&R pace was extremely slow, each episode had something different that made you want to tune in day after day for something extra. Now, the show is just a boringly boring show!

I would also add that it was also profoundly uninteresting in that nothing major happened backstage. You could always rely on it to deliver. It wasn't a soap about these major stunts, quasi-big, shocking stories... Just good drama, meticulously crafted by Bill Bell.

That's why I couldn't wait for Smith and Alden to get fired. Only, the moment I found out it was Lynn Latham, I was furious.

Who is your ideal HW and EP for Y&R, Sylph?

Curlee/Shaughnessy? Curlee as a choice comes with a tiny bit of unease in that I know she is a superb writer, however she would have to make minor adjustments to fit seamlessly into Y&R's way. Or even better, she could transform into into something new, Curlee-esque.
