anyone else thinks they are ripping off ugly betty's "claire meade escapes from prison" storyline? also, does sugar really have to be latino? such a typically offensive racial representation in daytime.

I really don't care if AMC is ripping off Ugly Betty's storyline. Just as long as it entertains me. And Carmen's being Latino doesn't bother me.

What!??

Really not many soaps have latinos in Daytime so having one that has a good SL is GREAT!

I don't care if Carmen is Latino, black, Asian, Hispanic, white, alien from Pluto, Native American, Pacific Islander, etc. If she is a good character with a good actor/actress, then I am fine with it.

Also, she might be in a stereotypical role of a latino being a crimebreaker but a lot of soap opera characters who are stereotyped (e.g. Reggie as a guy in the hood on AMC, Krystal living in a trailor park and basically being white trash) end up overcoming those stereotypes to be successful people...that makes them stronger emotionally

All My Children should especially not be criticized for stereotyping Latinos as they had for about a decade a very prominent Latino family, the Santos, of which its members were very successful with many in the medical field: Maria a doctor, Anita a PA, and now Julia back as a nurse. I think this outweighs one convict who by chance happens to be latina.

a good portion of the daytime audience could be potentially disappointed in stereotypical portrayals of racial minorities. that goes for all soaps though.

At first I did not think I would enjoy this story, but now....I absolutely LOVE it and think Susan Lucci is shining. I also LOVE the actress that plays Carmen. I do not think the show is ripping off Ugly Betty, nor do I think their is any offense going on amongst fans.

UB has ripped off AMC a few times from what I've read......

UB's season 2 is a big mess! and i think they've strayed very far from the original source material.

I love Ugly Betty this year. It hasn't seen a sophomore slump at all IMO.

I like Carmen, and I am pretty sure she's on contract.

wilhemina slater/vanessa williams is the only reason i watch ugly betty now. you gotta love how she used military software to shut down meade publicatons! after she stole bradford's sperm after he died, the storyline had a lot of potential. but now that christina is the birth mother, it's awful. the betty/henry/gio triangle is crap.
