February 14, 200818 yr Member http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/12/f...gr_n_86343.htmlWhen Aretha Franklin is unhappy, she does not mince words. On Tuesday, the longtime Queen of Soul slammed Beyonce Knowles' intro to Tina Turner at Sunday's Grammy Awards, in which Knowles called Turner, not Franklin, "the queen." "I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce," Franklin said in a statement issued by her publicist. "However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy." E-mails to Knowles' publicist Yvette Noel-Schure and calls and e-mails to Recording Academy spokeswomen Jaime Sarachit and Barb Deghan were not immediately returned. In the first few seconds of Knowles' intro to Turner's performance, she name-dropped Franklin and a long list of famed female singers. Then the "Crazy in Love" chanteuse focused on Turner. "There is one legend who has the essence of all of those things: the glamour, the soul, the passion, the strength, the talent," said Knowles, strutting in hot pants. "Ladies and gentlemen. Stand on your feet and give it up for the queen." At a party later that night, Knowles called Turner her "ultimate icon." Still, Franklin ended her brief criticism on a gracious note, thanking the Grammys and the voting academy and saying, "love to Beyonce anyway."
February 14, 200818 yr Member I read about this.... *yawn* "I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce," Franklin said in a statement issued by her publicist. "However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy." No, you're making it that way, though. Nobody would have thought twice about it had it not been for this stupid "speaking up". Yes, you're legendary. Yes, you're talented. But honestly......Give it a rest. Still, Franklin ended her brief criticism on a gracious note, thanking the Grammys and the voting academy and saying, "love to Beyonce anyway." That's like kicking someone down to the ground and as they lay their begging for mercy, telling them "Love ya!" Sarcasm at its best.
February 14, 200818 yr Member Umm she probably meant that Tina Turner was the Queen of Rock and Roll...good lord calm down Aretha
February 14, 200818 yr Member Why is this a story? Aretha has some issues, remember her diva concert on Vh-1, she had to out sing everybody and they were there for over 10 minutes just so she could prove a point. Beyonce wasn't even thinking about her when she said that, and why in the hell did beyonce lip-synch to talking????
February 14, 200818 yr Member If you see Tina's profile at Wikipedia, it clearly says she is the "Queen of Rock and Roll" so they both are queens...Beyonce just chose to call Tina one since she has more in common with her and considers her an idol
February 14, 200818 yr Member Aretha says: I just can't get any RE-S-P-E-C-T nowadays. Sorry. I had to.
February 14, 200818 yr Member Aretha seriously needs to get the f*ck over herself! And that's all I've got to say about this subject.
February 14, 200818 yr Member Aretha is similar to that of Little Richard in terms of always crowing about being acknowledged.. Yes Aretha is the Queen of Soul....always will be; and Tina is the Queen of Rock N Roll.....both of them are icons....Aretha should have just left her mouth closed... I remember that VH1 Diva's thing...There was always some drama when they had those; between Mariah Carey, between Whitney Houston, between Aretha Franklin. I do recall Gloria Estefan quipped this when they showed a picture of the Divas and she was not shown "Mariah's hair took up half the shot, at least you got my elbow."
February 15, 200818 yr Member I am taking a guess here and saying that Beyonce probably didn't write what she lip talked to at the Grammy's so Aretha is getting all in a huff at the wrong person.
February 15, 200818 yr Member It's just a name. I can't belive Arethat is tripping like this. Shows how petty she is. She should have covered up her big shoulder instead of worried about what she aint being called
February 15, 200818 yr Member Well beyonce's daddy isn't bowing to the queen : However, in an interview with CelebTV.com posted Wednesday, Matthew Knowles, Beyonce's father and manager, said: "I am not taking something this ridiculous to Beyonce. Beyonce referred to Tina Turner as a 'queen.' Not queen of gospel, queen of soul, queen of blues, Queen of England. I consider my wife a queen and sometimes call her that. Does Aretha have a problem with that?" Go matthew.
