I was forming it as a question, not so much a presumption.

What is so baffling about it? The Iranian president singles out Jews and everyone knows that he could attack them at any moment.

Jews were singled out during the Holocaust..

Really?

I hadn't heard that.

You didn't ask a question about why he had his reaction. You asked a question that came across as presumptuous and not you're saying it was not so much of a presumption which sounds like it may be a little bit presumptuous.

Thanks for clearing that up for me and yet I'm still baffled by her reference......I guess I'm just an idiot.

1. He never stopped campaigning.

McCain is a liar!

2. Many do feel he was debate dodging. Because you don't feel that doesn't make those people wrong.

Umm..he is going to debate. He hasn't dodged any debate! Anyone that felt he was debate dodging was wrong, pure and simple.

3. To me, it was a photo op. Period. When you sit in a meeting, don't say anything and then when it comes out of your mouth that you have NOT read the bill......I'm sorry, but I'll call a spade a spade.

Of course you think it was a photo op. Why would a US Senator and Presidential candidate have any business meeting about the future of the financial sector of our nation.

He was there for a picture...nothing else..

I didn't know you were at the meeting Roman. Cool, you should have invited the rest of us. .How do you know he said nothing?. I guess the Dems word is final in their report of McCain not participating.

What did Obama say during the meeting? I haven't heard that reported..

1. Glad you agree that McCain is a liar. It's about time. :D

2. He was dodging the debate. That is my opinion, whether you agree or not. Good thing I don't care.

3. So what you are NOW saying is that anything that is reported that you don't agree with is wrong. Thanks for clearing that up. Didn't know you had such a low opinion of the Forth Estate.

Remeber that the next time you post an article.

If you need to be right....knock yourself out. I heard a news report in which the reporter stated that John McCain, prior to Bush's address to the nation on Wednesday, asked President Bush to hold a meeting which included him and Obama, . I don't see how that means that Bush didn't invite them because he did invite them....at McCain's request.

I have no intention of disputing this again because I know what I heard and the fact that you don't believe me isn't going to change that for me.

I'll just liken to this to how I heard a report this morning that was worded in such a manner as to turn California taxpayers against their elected officials. They said taxpayers have paid over $220,000 for gas for their officials and named two with the highest gas bills. What they didn't include in their report was whether or not the vehicles were state owned and whether or not the officials filled their gas tanks for official state business. Leaving out some minor details changes the whole face of a story.

McCain did suspend his campaign before Bush invited Obama and McCain to the White House. McCain did not go to Washington for the meeting and in fact never even mentioned the meeting with Bush when he was discussing his intention to suspend his campaign.

Jess, if he suspended his campaign.....why did none of his offices close, and why were his ads still running?

Thanks Wales. I apologize for being presumptuous...

Let me correct and rephrase..

Greg, why did you react the way you did? Do you not agree that we should side with Israel if Iran attacks them?

Do you not feel that the hatred of Jews and wishing to kill them is similar to the Holocaust?

Thanks for clearing that up for me and yet I'm still baffled by her reference......I guess I'm just an idiot.

I now clearly understand your position on the Iranian hatred of Jews being nothing like the Holocaust. You have brought up great points in pointing out that there are by no means similar in any way!

IA, I now see no connection between Hitler killing Jews and Ahmadinejad wanting to..You have swayed me into seeing the error of Palin's ways.

I'm baffled about her comments too! Why did she mention the Holocaust? Ahmadinejad loves Israel! Wanting to see the death of Israel and its Jewish inhabitants is nothing like the Holocaust.

I'm the idiot..for ever thinking otherwise.

With friends like these.........

McCain made 'huge mistake,' Huckabee says

Posted: 12:43 PM ET

From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

(CNN) – Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said Friday the John McCain made a "huge mistake" by even floating the possibility he would not appear at the first presidential debate as planned.

“You can’t just say, ‘World stop for a moment. I’m going to cancel everything,” Huckabee told the Associated Press Thursday.

Huckabee, who vied with McCain for the GOP presidential nomination long after it appeared McCain was the party's presumptive nominee, has been an on-and-off critic of the Arizona senator. Earlier this summer he took part in a Washington, DC rally calling on McCain and Obama to highlight more evangelical issues on the campaign trail. He also criticized McCain's campaign when it alleged Obama's "lipstick on a pig" comments was an intended slight at Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin.

McCain abruptly announced Wednesday he would travel to Washington in hopes of striking a deal on the economic bailout deal, and said he would not attend a debate unless an agreement had been reached. Late Friday morning campaign aides said McCain felt sufficient progress had been made on the and he would attend the debate.

But the bill itself appears very much up in the air. After what was described by members of both parties as a "contentious" meeting at the White House Thursday afternoon, congressional leaders are still trying to hammer out a compromise on the Bush administration proposal. Speaking to reporters Friday morning, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said McCain's presence on the Hill helped stall negotiations.

"All he has done is stand in front of the cameras," said Reid, who has long had a chilly relationship with McCain. "We still don't know where he stands on the issue."

Well, I guess my friend Brian is off getting married. But I'm going to respond to his post regardless...

Come on, Greg... don't do the "Partisan Twist" with me.

<< Greg takes Brian's hand and puts on some music......"Com'on baby! Let's do the twist...Com'on babaaayyy let's do the twist. Lookie there's Obama's plan...and it goes like this..." >>

Dude, did you read my post? I was complimenting President Clinton. He HAS been fair and his analysis very keen on these issues.

You know I read your posts! Where did that come from? I was commenting on your last sentence that said "God help us". I thought that was in reference to Clinton as well. Obviously it wasn't so we're good, right?

Where did I say that? I have posted many times in this thread that both parties are to blame. I have, however, offset the dishonest claims that some Republicans have done nothing to stem the tide on this. They are on record as having MANY TIMES tried to introduce legislation to fix the lax lending practices -- The Bush Administration has multiple times and McCain himself has attempted to introduce legislation. It is a documented fact, Greg, that those finance committee Democrats, like Mr. Barney Frank, denied there was a problem. Come on, you've seen my posts on this. If I haven't made clear who I think is to blame and where this problem originated, then I'm either a damn fool or you haven't read my posts closely or you have simply forgotten.

OK, so why do you keep thinking I don't read your posts? Wasn't my comment regarding how Bush couldn't get his own party behind the bailout? I remember very clearly your posts that said both parties were to blame, but this was a different issue.

Now I'm confused. Did I take my medication today?!?!?

Again, it has been made perfectly clear in previous posts. Members of his party had requested he return to Washington, likely to wrangle in Republicans unwilling to simply buy into the deal. The President, himself, summoned McCain to the table. He returned to Washington to do his job. President Bush summoned Obama to the table to do his job. The rub is the House of Representatives and a large number of House members DO NOT LIKE THE BAILOUT PLAN. A large number of economists DO NOT LIKE THE BAILOUT PLAN. There is a significant segment of the populace that has called their elected representatives and told them they DO NOT LIKE THE BAILOUT PLAN. McCain is there because he was asked to be there. He was ASKED TO BE THERE.

See, now I'm sure I didn't take my meds cuz I keep hearing contradictory things from you and Casey on this matter. After McCain held his press conference, you kept saying he was going back "to do his job". Then you said that he was going to "provide support" and now you're saying that he went back because he "was asked to".

Jo no entiendo, Senor.

What newspaper do you read? THIS from the Washington Times:

Bush says economy stable despite financial crisis

http://washingtontimes.com/news/2008/sep/1...nancial-crisis/

Bush says economy strong enough to handle turmoil

http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2008/sep/15...cial-system-wh/

Ummm. I was actually going by what he said in his address to the nation a couple days ago:

Bush: Delay On Bailout Courts Disaster

President Says "Entire Economy Is In Danger" In Prime-Time Address

CBS/AP) Speaking in dire terms, President Bush on Wednesday warned Americans and lawmakers reluctant to pass a historic financial rescue plan that failing to act fast risks wiping out retirement savings, increasing foreclosure rates, job losses, closed businesses and "a long and painful recession."

So please explain to me how the economy can be strong, yet this financial crisis is going to lead to a "long and painful recession" if something isn't done? Cuz I'm not gettin it, dudes.

So you would not be in favor of aligning with Israel against the Iranians?..Akmadinajad..has referenced the holy war several times and admittedly hates Israel and all jews. He calls them Zionists..That was their name during the recapture of Jerusalem...

Nowhere in that question did the subject of Iran come up. You have made that assumption. Do I think that we should align with Isreal against Iran? Duh. Of course I do.

ITA with Wales, and that was the point I was trying to get across, is that the reference to the Holocaust gave me a minute of WTF. You are the one that read into that the Iran issue.

3. To me, it was a photo op. Period. When you sit in a meeting, don't say anything and then when it comes out of your mouth that you have NOT read the bill......I'm sorry, but I'll call a spade a spade.

Yup.

Brain explained that Roman. It is a matter of nuance with the local stations that play the ads.

What did Obama say during the meeting? I haven't heard that reported..

Why is this even relevant? Did Obama even say he was going to suspend his campaign to deal with this crisis?

Uhm no.

Did Obama invite himself to the meeting?

Uhm no. Nor was he in a position to turn down the invitation.....so he went and did what I thought they both would do......get their picture taken.

Obama's participation is not relevant, you are right. The comments of the potential President of the United States, during the meeting covering the largest financial crisis in 80 years, is of no relevance because he didn't suspend his campaign.

Did Obama invite himself to the meeting?

No, and neither did McCain.

Did Obama attend?

Uhm no. Nor was he in a position to turn down the invitation.....so he went and did what I thought they both would do......get their picture taken.

Obama was there to get his picture taken too? You honestly believe that neither candidate (both potentially being the next president) had NO meaningful input in the meeting. You feel our next president was there just to get a picture taken?

For someone that shows the effort and passion to participate in a political discussion, you sound more like uneducated Joe Blow (that is not even going to vote) by making a comment like that..Very cynical and presumptious, I might add...

Dude, just stop arguing about it.

There is no way you are going to get some to believe what happened, especially when they are confronted with facts.

I know, he said he suspended his campaign. That is different than actually suspending it.
