September 19, 200817 yr Member Republicans are supporters of sex ed in appropriate grade levels.-- Middle to high school. Sarah Palin is an advocate of abstinence teaching in schools. Although not for kindergarteners.... Was her daughter home-schooled? Sorry, I'll stop. LOL. Assume is the right word, bandb... because nobody, not even Barry H., could possibly know what exactly is "age appropriate" -- because the bill failed to spell it out. The sex education curriculum was intended for grade 6-12... there was no curriculum designed for children as young as 4 or 5 years old. Barry H. and his bill left the interpretation of what was age appropriate to the community (non-certificated, not trained in the field) and school board members (likely non-certificated, not trained in the field). This was a disaster doomed to failure because state government CANNOT author curriculum standards. They're not trained to do it... Barry H. is not trained to do it... he had no business being a back-seat school administrator! That has been the problem with the legislature here in my home state of California... and it is the problem liberals and conservatives alike have with No Child Left Behind -- government has no business in the classroom... PERIOD. It's not HIS bill. He voted for it but that doesn't make it HIS. If it does, then any bill that he's ever voted yes to would make them his, which would defeat the argument that he hasn't been part of anything.
September 19, 200817 yr Member I think McCain is in direct opposition to Obama's k-12 stance, hence McCain's ad..... And no article on his stance posted. Now, many of us have posted links time and again and we have debated Obama's stance on the issue. But McCain's stance seems to be absent from these discussions. Interesting.
September 19, 200817 yr Member Here's a question. Where is McCain's plan for protecting kids against predators? Okay, now this is where the community and school board members step in, working with local and state agencies, like local law enforcement. And, Roman, programs already exist in most communities teaching kindergarteners how to protect themselves against predators. So why, again, did Barry H. wanna legislate sex-ed for kindergarteners? A sex-ed program isn't needed to educate children in methods to protect against a predator... unless you think it's important, Roman, to teach them why the bad man's penis grows, etc. I don't think kindergarteners need to know about that from their teacher... do you?
September 19, 200817 yr Member Ooooh, Todd Palin getting state emails? Weren't people all over Hillary's butt for being in Bill's business?

Wasn't it said on CNN this evening from the lady from Factcheck.org that Obama neither wrote, sponsored or co-sponsored the bill?
September 19, 200817 yr Member While I don't agree that raising taxes is patriotic like Biden said....Isn't it also ironic that Republicans play that patriotism card but don't want to fund what they're patriotic about? How do Republicans not fund the treasury? They call for lower taxes, not an abolishment of taxes. I feel it would be patriotic to ensure every class, including the class that provides jobs, benefit from tax breaks during tough economic times. Obama/Biden stance seems to be more "middle-classotic" than patriotic. They dont care about this country, they are trying to please the largest group by taxing the evil rich...its all about votes. McCain wants to do what's best for the entire nation, not just the largest socioeconomic class!
September 19, 200817 yr Member Wasn't it said on CNN this evening from the lady from Factcheck.org that Obama neither wrote, sponsored or co-sponsored the bill? He wasn't connected at all, except that he voted for it.

Banb... the popular opinion seems to be that Barry H. has been a part of lots of things -- lots of bills... he just has never written one that mattered.

You seemed to be more interested about where the bad man;'s penis goes more than I do. And didn't we already state that it would be a case-by-case decision, left up to the school board and community......or are you just now reading the article and it's finally sinking in?
September 19, 200817 yr Member How do Republicans not fund the treasury? They call for lower taxes, not an abolishment of taxes. It's ALWAYS about lower taxes. Bush lowers taxes, the new Republican will want to lower them further, and the next further, etc. They're never okay.
September 19, 200817 yr Member He wasn't connected at all, except that he voted for it. Right, and it died in commitee.
September 19, 200817 yr Member Banb... the popular opinion seems to be that Barry H. has been a part of lots of things -- lots of bills... he just has never written one that mattered. I'm not one of the ones whining that he hasn't authored anything important. But people are connecting him to this sex-ed bill, but the only connection is that he voted for it. So if you're counting this bill as one of his because of that, then there's a huge list of "his" bills.

But McCain's stance seems to be absent from these discussions. Interesting. McCain doesn't have or need a stance. Sex education is something that is selected and developed at local levels. Obama is the only candidate that has stepped into that territory. Sorry, I probably wont be able to find an article about this...I know you love them so...
