Members DevotedToAMC
She meant to sound like she was referring to a group she attracts and got descriptive...it is like me saying I attract hardworking, white, women. I am not racist. I am merely saying that people got offended by both hers and Obama's comments and I just brought up the bitter ones again to show which ones people did not like. They both apologized for it so now it is time to move on and I have done that because it does not change my opinion of either one...but I just brought up the bitter comments to show that he also offended people. Members Wales2004
Sure he may change his mind because they did look great together on that podium so yes we'll see. I am surprised that Roman hasn't posted that NARAL endorsed Obama or did I miss it? Oh and to add on to that t-shirt post, the makers of Curious George are considering suing over the use of his likeness and MDA said they want nothing to do with the proceeds. The man selling the shirts said he was going to donate what he raises to MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association).
Members DevotedToAMC
I am sure NARAL endorsed Hillary as well since she gets a 100% rating from them.
Members Roman
I want SOS or SOD to go to the best person, regardless of their race, color or gender. We need to stop this stuff that someone needs to be a certain type. The best PERSON should get the job. I saw but held off. I wanted to do some more background on it before I posted it. And where is this 100% Hillary rating they gave her?
Members Wales2004
There are endorsements, then there are endorsements. And this one has to hurt Hillary Clinton. The National Abortion Rights Action League's Pro-Choice America political action committee, which has steadfastly backed Clinton throughout her political career, gave its blessing today to Barack Obama. The Associated Press is reporting that NARAL's political committee board was divided between Clinton and Obama supporters, but eventually voted unanimously to support the Illinois senator. http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politi...l_endorses.html
Members DevotedToAMC
And Maxine Waters and Dianne Feinstein would do great in both positions. I found out the rating at her profile on Wikipedia It won't really hurt her because she is still pulling the women vote very well...and they can still endorse her. Members Wales2004
I know someone who used to work for her and maybe from a political standpoint she'd agree but I don't even think she does much for her district since she is a career politician. Besides that I disagree with picking someone based on race or gender when the choice should be made based on who is best for the position. And I'm not sure what you mean about someone working in an international diplomacy position advancing civil rights for I assume you mean the black race (?) Maybe that would work for a Hilary Clinton cabinet but I don't see this one for Barack Obama. No it won't hurt her. How can they still endorse her when they've given him their endorsement or are you suggesting they'll change their mind after the next big event? Members DevotedToAMC
Well she obviously does a lot if she keeps getting re elected. And she is just known for being an outspoken advocate for human and civil rights. That is what Secretary of State is all about but who knows I might be wrong. I am all for the cabinet positions going to the most qualified and that could mean an African American is the most qualified...I would not support just filling positions to establish quotas. I am talking about diplomacy for all humans but also for those who still face oppression these days due to race and we know which races that includes. He can still assign them to positions...I am sure he is friends with both of those women. I think organizations can endorse two people if they want. Am I right? Members Jess
I believe Obama will likely appoint Sam Nunn to either secretary of defense or secretary of state. I would like to see him bring Les Hamilton back into public life. The Nebraska senator who is stepping down is a conservative Republican, but I believe he would be a fine addition to Obama's cabinet. I could see him in defense or state. SOD and SOS have such an impact, I think Obama will pick someone with a pretty sound pedigree. What I like about Hamilton, and again he is a conservative, is that he served on the committee that studied Iraq and advocated a withdrawal. I think he would be fine in that position. Bill Clinton actually would be very good at SOS, but I don't know if he would do it and I don't know if Obama would consider him. He is very well respected throughout the world. I don't see Diana Feinstein in SOD or SOS. Right now she doesn't have the credentials. I do think she would be an excellent cabinet appointment. I also think California could retain the seat for the Democrats if she did take a cabinet position. I think NARAL waited to announce its endorsement until it was clear the primary was over. Obama will be the nominee so the endorsement is for the general election. It didn't endorse Clinton because she's not going to be the nominee. Members DevotedToAMC
I think Feinstein has the credentials to be SOS or SOD since she passed that bill I spoke about and has worked as U.S. Senator all her life to help out millions of people. She has done a lot for California. But I hope she is in the Cabinet and then Barbara Boxer becomes the Senior Senator....we would retain the Senate seat for a Democrat, no doubt about it. I think the guy who lost the governor's race in 2006 will run for the open seat if it is vacant and win. The election is still not over and I posted an article here about how Obama seems willing to compromise on MI and FL. If he does, then it is over because she would clearly take the lead and the remaining states (other than South Dakota..Oregon may change) are in her favor. Members Roman
DF is one person I don't want near an admin. She is too old school for me.......and some things she's done have just rubbed me the wrong way. It's already over. She lost. And when he wins ORE.......which he is leading by 20 points......we can put her campaign to bed.
Members Wales2004
I don't think getting re-elected necessarily means that she is doing a lot. It might mean that her constituents are used to her and maybe once upon a time she did something or maybe she spoke up at certain times. I was amazed at how she and some other "advocates" stood outside an er center that was closed down because it lost its accreditation and held prayer. I'm not anti-prayer but I would imagine that she and others had fair warning that there was a problem since it was mentioned on the local news numerous times. Holding prayer after being told it was going to be shut down.....what can I say about that? The Secretary of State doesn't seem to deal with many domestic issues and would less likely be involved in domestic civil rights issues since foreign matters are probably of higher priority for that position but maybe you're right. This is not so much of a diplomacy issue as it is an issue of people opening their minds and seeing people as humans instead of groups with which to be specially dealt. I'm sure he can do a whole lot better than either but time will tell. I don't know what their bylaws are on that. If they can endorse both then the process they went through in order to select him seems futile. If they can then it seems that the EMILY groups sharp statement criticizing it is a waste of time as well.
Members DevotedToAMC
It is ridiculous they would hold prayer as if it would save the ER, which it won't. I won't hold it against her I refer to foreign policy matters that advance diplomacy for civil rights and human rights..that is what the SOS does but we have not seen much positives done with Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice. I agree that people should open their minds to allow for more civil rights and to stop with the prejudice. There could be better people than Waters and Feinstein but they both are qualified for those positions. I am not sure on bylaws, although I did volunteer a couple of times for NARAL...I am sure they can have another process where they deliberate on whether or not to endorse Hillary Clinton. Then answer me this. Does any candidate have the delegates to win? Nope. We don't know if he will Oregon...there are other polls out there that have her down by just 11% but you take stock in polls that have him ahead by more and I do it with ones that show her closer. <<<DF is one person I don't want near an admin. She is too old school for me.......and some things she's done have just rubbed me the wrong way.>>> I think DF would be tremendous in the Cabinet. She has proven to be good on liberal causes, although yes some of her votes do irk me. I disagree with her voting for Leslie Southwick and Attorney General (whatever his name is) but she explained her decision for voting for Mukasey (now I remember it!) and it makes sense why she voted that way. Otherwise, she has done a great job as our state's Senator...in fact, she has done so great that she is always ranked each year as California's most popular politician. When I saw Hillary speak in Oakland, DF was there and she got a big standing ovation...the crowd went wild when she spoke.
