2008: The Directors and Writers Thread

Kanelos would have been my last guess since I thought she'd have a strong allegiance with Carruthers and B&E. THat's a surprise.

So where are Demorest and Hayes and the script writers? Did Addie Walsh write the script today or the breakdown? Strange.

Thank you, Toups, for the info!

I want Kanelos fired as soon as possible. And she hasn't even started.

Is Marla Kanelos a good writer? I wonder why Maria Arena Bell would pick her instead of a former Bell writer.

The rumours I heard were some soaps were thinking of getting rid of the breakdown position. It looks like AMC has done that for now. We'll see if it continues.

Don't know if the other soap has gone through with it - we'll see once writers credits returns.

Do you think that's a good idea Toups?

I have noticed that the few episodes in the past where Michelle Patrick and Amanda Beall wrote the entire thing themselves seemed much stronger.

But I guess they're doing it to save money and not so much for stronger writing.

I hope the team consists of more than just Walsh, Beall and Beldner though! Or will they be out too when their contracts permit?

1. This AMC writer joined Y&R = Marla Kanelos (Congrats on Alvin for the correct guess)

I didn't see Alvin's post mentioning Kanelos!!

1. Michelle Patrick

2. Stephen Demorest

3. Chip Hayes

I was very surprised too. Marla's job was pretty secure as long as JHC was EP.

I think Demorest and Hayes are gone. I think Addie wrote both breakdown/script or maybe she wrote the script of B&E's thrust (sort of like what GL is doing).

I'm just guessing.

I don't know. I've never been part of a writing team to know if it'll be good or bad. LOL

Yeah, I definitely think it has to do with the budget. It seems more soaps will continue to do this and the breakdown position will be a thing of the past.

I hope the team consists of more than just Walsh, Beall and Beldner though!

Oh for sure there's more writers. You can't have 5 writers write for a 1 hour show 5 days a week.

Please don't tell me it's Marla Kanelos, who worked with Latham on PC and Wild Card. If this writer was hired just before the strike and has a contract cycle to finish, it could very well be her.

Yes, it's her...

Dear Lord in heaven, I just hope she gets fired soon...

I assume Marla Kanelos was one of Latham's last hirings shortly before the strike, so now she has a contract cycle that has to be finished. This has to be a Latham hiring, since Kanelos worked with Latham previously, Maria Arena Bell has no connection to this woman.

What a crock, Latham is still effecting this show even though she's been fired.

I wonder who Maria herself will hire, if she's just as bad as her predecessor, we know the only thing Bell about her is her last name by marriage.

Maria Arena Bell may not have any connections to Kanelos but Barbara Bloom does (from Port Charles).

Bloom can't hire any writers at Y&R though, though she wrote a few breakdowns herself last year (though only because she was so close with Latham). This had to be OK-ed by Sony and Bell, and since Kanelos worked with Latham on TWO shows, it had to have been her last hiring.

It also might be a sort of mercy hiring, although unlikely... You know her situation during the strike...
