Fi-Core status wasn't created within the WGA until the 1988 strike, I believe. Many WGA members still resent the fact it was created in the first place.

Megan McTavish certainly does..... and she is an impartial voice on the matter of Brown and Esensten's fi-core status.... :P

The option to go FiCore is a national labor law and has nothing to do with the WGA. It's a Supreme Court ruling, not something the WGA created or even allows. We have no choice.

Oh thank you for that information. I didn't know that.

Either way Fi Core is a reality. And it goes without saying that some Fi Core writers will suffer because of their choice to go that route (like Hogan Sheffer, Meg Kelly) while others will not (any of the Bell people). It's all about what a production company is willing to put up with as far as the WGA goes and how loyal said company is to it's employees.

I really hope that B&E are fired.

AMC fans should start a campaign to oust B&E and JHC (um yes, she's as much a problem as the writers are). There were a few fan campaigns to oust Latham and I think they eventually worked, maybe the same will happen over at AMC...

Face, this show isn't going to get better as long as B&E and JHC are there hacking things up...

Totally agree!'

We need to start a campaign!!!!!!! :)

I won't stand in the way of campaigns to oust JHC and/or B&E. I should warn you, however, we wanted MMT gone, too. As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for, lol.

Any campaign associated with ABC should be about ousting Frons. In the end it's all about Frons because he hires and fires the HWs and EPs. That son of a bitch Brian Frons is the one who has to go before you'll see any positive changes at ABC.

A rival soap website has posted that Jeff Gottesfeld and Cherie Bennett will be remaining with Y&R. Gottesfeld allegedly wrote the following on a message board:

"It has been difficult, it has been trying, Cherie and I survived with our jobs at The Young and the Restless intact; others were not so fortunate. Friends and colleagues are now trying to figure out what to do."

The only good news I see from this is that Gottesfeld and Bennett only worked with LML once, on PC, for a year as story consultants and since then they'd had no professional contact. Hopefully they're the only ones left from the LML era.

I just want to stress that not everyone who works under a hack is bad. Even if these two worked under LML for years, it doesn't mean that they themselves are hacks too.

I <3 you DaytimeFan

They were breakdown/script writers right? The dialogue wasn't the problem with Latham's Y&R, it was the awful storyline projections and need to place plot over character. However, I must stress, Toups said more writers were going to be fired, just because these two weren't fired immediately that doesn't mean they won't be fired somewhere down the road. Anyway, the new writing team needs to keep someone from Latham's era to show some consistency. If a Bell/Alden/Smith protege is coming back to head things, like we all suspect, Jeff Gottesfeld and Cherie Bennett could contribute a lot and learn a lot in the process.

On the Y&R website Gottesfeld and Bennett are listed as AHW's. Really, they don't bother me, at least I hope they don't. It's Hamner who terrifies me, he has to go!

I agree, Hamner is as much of a creative cancer as Latham was.

Hopefully, we find out soon who will be the new head writer, and who is to come, who is to stay, and who else is to go.

Though, if we get a Bell/Alden/Smith protege back, I can't imagine these two being kept on, being Latham additions and all....

I honestly don't think any LML writers should be kept on. They have no history of the show and were purposely brought on because their style is completely different from what Y&R is about. The biggest problem with LML's Y&R was the horrible pacing and structure of the episodes. Odd quick cuts in the middle of big emotional moments, 2 second scenes, focus on plot, zero character development, etc. Wouldn't this be mainly the work of an AHW?

Sorry, maybe I'm heartless, but I feel ZERO sympathy for LML and her team. You know what fans want, you see the complains and like every bad HW decide to continue on your bad chance. You weren't fired, you gave up your job, IMO. A good HW like Bill Bell or Douglas Marland can acknowledge when something isn't working and MOVE ON. It makes me sick to think that these people were coming to "save" the bloody #1 soap!

Man, I'm already ready for the new HW to be announced. I can't wait until this is written up in the soap mags. I want more! Toups, do you have any behind the scenes tidbits about this? Have you heard anything from LML's writers?
