I think even a hack HW can explain his way around that. Jesse Hubbard was shot on-screen? Well, either they were blanks, or he was wearing a bulletproof vest.

It's also easy to explain why Jesse would choose to "remain dead" for so long. He was in danger, and he didn't want Angie or their son exposed.

Now, explain what led him to faking his death in the first place, lol.
