I'm not suggesting that it is a bad thing for them to be alike and I agree with what you said. The bad thing about them being alike is that they swallow up a lot of screen time and that's not so great when you're seeing two versions of the same character when they're not tranquil characters. If they'd tone down the Everybody loves Lulu part of the show and Carly would tone down a bit as well then it wouldn't lead to a feeling of overkill.

It's all me but I just had a problem with their relationship yesterday. Outside of that they are generally mildly entertaining for the reasons you said. IA that they are better than Sonny and Jason because I don't get that good friend's vibe from them. I think Jason would go the extra mile for Sonny and I think Sonny cares but they lack that connection.

People usually ask for advice to get someone to confirm what they want to hear. There are people that actually do really want advice though so I know that friends may or may not listen and it's up to an individual to make his own mind up. I didn't re-read what I said but I meant that Spinelli usually takes Jason's advice when it's non Lulu related so if I implied that he doesn't take it then I mistyped. His ignoring Jason's advice re: Robin's request wasn't really my issue, my issue is that he was insensitive to Jason's present situation when asking him to step in to help Robin. Hyped up people like me would have pointed that out to him when we were alone and then moved on.

He may have been on less last week. I read this thread title on another board that Sonny speaking Spanish was sexy. Maybe it's me but while he was doing it, I had enough time to wonder why he wouldn't speak a little faster. I guess MB is a slow deliberate talker in any language.

first off let me just say thank you. thank you for actually debating and discussing things as opsed to the norm on message boards of im wright ur wrong blah blah blah. so again, thanx.

I do agree that they are on the screen to much. i do also think they need to tkae carly a few steps further and into a more adult mature role and have her try to help lulu steer clear of the mistakes she has made, as opse to have carly make them again at the same time lulu is.

Oh okay, i read what your wrote a little diff. sorry about that. I do see how he was wrong in asking jason to step in with his situation with kaje and all, but i also see why spin asked him. he didnt want to let robin down. robin being one of the only people to ever compliment (sp?) him. he wanted to help her after she turned to him. and when he couldnt he turned to his best friend to help... without thinking about the situation. but i found it worked since spin is pretty young and not use to having friends.

Mayb i just find Sonny on less now because when hes on with Kate he doesnt annoy me for some reason.

The recent fanbase wars are what is weakening GH. Why can't people watch any show to see a variety of characters. Tuning in for three or four characters (**ahem**Tracy Quartermaine fans**ahem**) is ultimately a waste of time. The choice is: {The Show} or Nothing.

I think Snarly and Mini-Snarly are exactly alike. They're loud, shrill, annoying, extremely selfish, hard headed shrews. They run around town acting like spoiled little brats and they don't have anything to offer -- yet have every man ejaculates at the sight of them. Then, when they get together, it's like watching the captain of the cheerleading team and the captain of the dance squad in a bad high school sitcom bitch and giggle about the latest goings on between classes.

I'm diggin' the Jason & Spinelli friendship because they are total opposites. Jason's a man of few words and Spinelli's a man of way too many words. I think it's cute how even though Jason accepts Spinelli for Spinelli (and all that entails), Spinelli still tries to emulate Jason and fails. I have no trouble believing that Jason cares about him. It's inexplicable, yet that's what I like about it. Sometimes, you just care about someone. You don't know when it happened, why or how... it just is.

It's not the fanbase wars that are weakening GH, it's the writing that is centered around playing games with the fragile minds of the fanbases that is done to the detriment of cohesive storytelling. I'm sure people that aren't caught up in it are okay with seeing a variety of characters but the people calling the shots think feeding the fringe element generates interest in the show.

When people insist that the ratings are down because their favorite couple isn't together then I wonder how much time they spent studying the ratings prior to the break up of their couple. I don't think the average viewer specifically cares who is together or not (though some may have their faves). I think they just want to see a good story and if it's told and acted well then they're probably fine with that.

BTW I'm not sure what you mean by recent and I can only assume that you're referring to Jason related fanbase wars and I do agree that the way it is written is a contributing factor. The fanbase wars themselves go back to at least 2001 if not earlier and it's primarily online fans that feel the need to take control of their entertainment. I personally think it does them more harm than good because it exposes their weaknesses thus allowing Brian Frons et al the means to exploit them. The average person watching will change the channel and be done, but an invested soap fan will lament and lament and depending on how invested, go on to take action from there.

I enjoy certain couples, but I'm not as agenda-based as some are. Like, I enjoy Zendall on AMC, but there are some fans of that couple that are absurd, and I hate being lumped into the same category as them, because I don't view things the way they view things.

I enjoyed JaSam when they were legitimate (pre-MetroCourt shooting of Sam in the back). But then, when Jason pushed her away and Sam started acting pathetic, I moved on.

I hate Lugan and rather see Johnny and Lulu together -- but then again, if I had to choose between Johnny & Lulu and Johnny & Maxie, I'd choose Maxie. I can't stand Kirsten Stormsie Wormsie, but I like the Maxie character and I think Johnny would be a good match for her. Lulu is very sanctimonious and tends to judge every single guy she's with and yet, she has nothing to offer a relationship.

So, I don't think fanbase wars (giving into this ridiculous debate) are the cause of anything, because the writers and the producers will do what they want, no matter what. Especially Guza. He will write what he's interested in -- and when he loses interest, those stories seem to stop.

I totally missed this post when I checked the board earlier. I like reading your viewpoints and I like that you're pretty straightforward about the characters you like without trying to excuse everything they do. I think people should feel comfortable enough about liking characters like Sam without minimizing every wrong thing she does unless a person actually believes it was a good thing.

Debating can be fun and it's all the more fun when people can do it without personally attacking each other and by sticking to the subject. For instance Elizabeth told a huge lie and it isn't less of a lie because Sam did something terrible.

I see your point on the Jason/Spinelli thing and it would have helped me a little if they had Spinelli acknowledge it was a bad idea to call him under the circumstances or Jason admonish him but I'm over it now and alas, it isn't all about me.

Some of the fans online ruin the soap viewing experience for themselves by making it too personal and engaging in online battles over stories and characters they don't control. Ultimately, all it does is build an intense dislike or contempt for people they don't know and for characters they might otherwise tolerate or even enjoy.

I don't know anything about the op. I don't know the intent but the topic is kind of relevant and somewhat interesting to me though.

IA with you but I also think to some extent they do write certain things in to feed some of the fanbase frenzy which in some cases they try to generate. It might not be as blatant on this show as it is/was on their other shows but it does exist. They use promos, rag previews, and certain plot points (that don't in any way further a s/l) to try to keep a buzz going. I think the Jake s/l is an example of it. Their games really only have an effect online because I doubt the average viewer gives too much thought to what's onscreen after they're done watching and they're not like hungry fanbases looking for a sign.

But you're absolutely right that the bottom line is that they do what they want.

I'm just editing this to add that I enjoy certain couples as well but what interests me about them now is much different from what used to catch my attention before.

Some random GH thoughts...

- Max and Diane are fabulous! PLEASE put them together ptb. PLEASE. At the same time, kill Sonny and Carly please. PLEASE.

- Jax and Alexis... please go there. Let them pull a Gizzie - best friends who turn into lovers. I want to see them have a one night stand, so badly!

- Logan sucks. Lulu now sucks. Johnny sucks. Maxie sucks. Spinelli and George are cuteness.

- I missed Lucky and Sam!

- Elizabeth however, can just go die. Stop your little innocent routine because I'm about to throw up.

- Julie Berman, please stop taking after Laura Wright. There's a reason I cannot stand Carly.

- I pray the Emily rumors are true. DIE EM. DIE.

- This actor playing Zacharra is either really bad or has spent time with Mo's acting coach.

- Wow, that was a beautiful scene. Lucky and Sam just laying there, talking. Intimate, natural and beautiful. Love them, god they're beautiful together.

- Spinelli and Robin are so cute! Geeky cute!

    • 40 years ago this month, the best and most pivotal television season of the 1980s came to an end. Here’s how the rookie breakout and the four soaps wrapped up the season. The Cosby Show – Cliff’s Birthday (season 1 finale, May 9): Clair and the children surprise Cliff by planning a birthday celebration around a Lena Horne concert. Dallas – Deliverance (May 10): Bobby seeks evidence to free Jenna. The Ewings go confidently to court. Mitch asks Lucy to move in. J.R. wants Sue Ellen hospitalized. Dynasty - The Heiress (May 8): Krystle learns Daniel is dead. King Galen courts Alexis. Amanda sees Michael with Elena. Sammy Jo learns Krystle will handle her money and is furious about the decision. Knots Landing – One Day in a Row (May 9): Ben aids in Karen's search for Val's babies. Mack replies to the governor's offer. Ruth uses Abby to break up Laura and Greg. Falcon Crest – Cold Comfort (May 10): Fugitive Lance desperately searches for Lorraine, who lies comatose in a San Francisco hospital. Robin returns with startling news.   Dallas – Swan Song (season 8 finale, May 17): Jenna's release from jail depresses Pam. Sue Ellen thinks she saw Dusty. Donna tells Ray about her pregnancy. Cliff consults an attorney about an annulment. Lucy and Mitch remarry. Sudden tragedy strikes Bobby. Dynasty – Royal Wedding (season 5 finale, May 15): Sammy Jo makes her roommate look like Krystle. Elena reassures Amanda about her upcoming marriage. Terrorists come for the royal wedding of Prince Michael and Amanda. Falcon Crest – Confessions (May 17): Melissa confesses to framing Lance. Pamela gives Maggie proof that Richard bribed Judge Holder. Connie reveals her love for Chase. Knots Landing – Vulnerable (May 16): Ruth wants Abby to break up Greg and Laura. Karen makes a breakthrough in her hunt for Val's babies. Joshua hampers Val's recovery. Knots Landing – The Long and Winding Road (season 6 finale, May 23): Abby fears being linked to the disappearance of Val's babies. Laura leaves Greg. The Fishers are determined to keep Val's babies. Falcon Crest – The Avenging Angel (season 4 finale, May 24): Lorraine dies. Angela throws a victory party. Cassandra's mother arrives. An explosion rips through Richard's house. 1984/85 was the season the primetime soaps pulled out all the stops to out-do each other and everything culminated in the spring. May 1985 was the zenith of primetime soaps as a genre.

    • Charles Grant first appeared as Evan in September 1988. I was surprised to come across this item from December 1985, almost 3 years earlier: "Lots of action behind the scenes at Another World . . . I have bad news for fans of Christopher Holder (Peter Love). He will be leaving the show in the new year. I have heard that the producers are recasting the part and are also seeing actors for new roles. One of the main characters this spring will be Marlee [sic] and Victoria's father. The producers have been talking to Charles Flohe (John "Preacher" Emerson, Edge Of Night) about another new character to be featured. I will fill you in on the results as soon as I know." It seems obviously too early for anyone to have been planning to introduce Evan Frame. Based on the context he's not being considered as a recast of Peter. Maybe they were considering him for the character that turned out to be Neal, who started around the same time as Marcus Smythe as Peter?
    • Randall Edwards (and Brian Tarantina), with the opening night cast of 1985's Biloxi Blues, plus director Gene Saks and playwright Neil Simon.

    • That was my point really. These anniversary party scenes are the first ones, and now they won't be able to use them (meaning these actual scenes, as aired, with OG Ted). They can recreate them but I doubt they will spring for all the extras to come back and film and recreate everything, so it will be more like tight closed in shots of Ted with one or two other actors, or snippets of Leslie's original speech where Ted wasn't visible. It would be hard to recapture the original energy of the scenes are as they were filmed in their full context. I just think that's too bad, but maybe they will prove me wrong. I never really saw what was so off in his portrayal to warrant a recast, anyway, so that colors my perception as well.
    • Yeah, and quite honestly, are there really that many scenes that are flashback-worthy at this point in the run?
    • I know at one point they were on Hulu & i-Tunes. I just checked it on JustWatch.com & it indicates 1 season on Prime Video & on AppleTV. Have fun! Just looking back at this thread, the recent end of & I have to admit I am surprised that several of you give it such high marks. Now, literally all I know about the modern reboot I learned from Slezak in Linda Dano's podcast & I must tell you I got a very different impression from what she said. If you are interested, those podcast episodes are still up even though Dano is not making any new ones. My impression from what she said was that they had no idea what they were doing & it was no wonder that the project was an abject failure She & many others were owed a ton of money. At the end the mid-level staff came out & basically said, they didn't know what to do, that the people were not here & they guessed it was over. So, as you can imagine I was appalled.
    • That era is so weird...they made a big deal out of all three of those characters and then they just..disappeared! Not that I am complaining. We talk about the bad out of character writing for Alex under JFP..but this was one example that may have led them to write her being so obsessive with Nick.  WHY would Alex accept Flock of Seagulls guy as her brother? They had her in one scene (setting up the Alan return) complain that Alan abandoned her...she blackmailed him into leaving town and she had been angry at him for helping Brandon with Lujack and also using Spaulding for that dumb dreaming death thing. Endless scenes of her with Simon, I can't believe Bev wasn't bored to death! I would also add Pam writing the scene where she lets Ms. Sally die in front of her to protect Alan and  the writing for Alex could be screwy even before JFP.
