"You've been watching the B team. Now it's time for the A team to return." (Drake, paraphrased)

"It was time to bring back the big guns." (Thaao, paraphrased)

This is just PR. It's what those fan events are all about. They're told what to say a lot of times.

I mean, Deidre Hall said Melaswen and the point of Marlena being a serial killer was a love story about John & Marlena. Whatever.

:-)

Deidre's never talked about Melaswen (she's a pro), and the serial killer story would have been a great love story if they haden't done Melaswen and what followed. I would have loved to see them go on the run to find out what the frak was going on. Started out great with John having to realize the love of his life was killing their friends.

I remember Deidre telling the fans to trust JER as much as she did because the serial-killer story would turn into a love story for John & Marlena. Of course, then it became Melaswen. I don't think this was the original plan, but I still think she's repeating whatever they've told her.

They're selling their characters, their stories, and their show to their fans, I think. I figure that the other actors aren't insulted b/c they're all trying to sell the show and get people watching again.

I don't even want to comment on what that piece-of-crap story did to the show.

Oh wait, I just did.

Doggone it... it's so easy to pick on SSK and Melaswen. Not quite the Garden of Eden, but definitely a low point for Days.

Didn't Corday say there would be a shocking story for the Hortons this summer that would leave the audience asking "Are they really going to go there?" Everyone was predicting at that time that Corday was going to kill off Alice.

So . . . was this a reference to Jeremy smuggling women from another country??? Is that the big Horton shocker?

this show is screwed up...this man is screwed up...how can he say CAST CHANGES CUTS coming then next day later we have Matt Ashford Returning and Nadia? Nadia=why worst mistake ever....Matt=Good if John is leaving...have Jen go crazy and put in a mental hospital.(it would be ok her mother went crazy and so did her mother so its ok)

Apparently Drake is not leaving. I still want Matt back without his staid daughter and wife, though. There is no reason on earth to bring Nadia back except if Mimi is not returning, she (as Chloe) is the only girl of that group left.

I think Frank Parker and maybe John Anniston will be cut. Both have expressed desire to leave before. Peggy McCay may be cut, too. I hope Suzanne Rogers is not because she is next to Mrs. H. as my reason for there to be a Days. Belle and Shawn could be married and sent away like Chloe and Brady were. JKJ's contract is up in January. He may be gone at the end of December. These are just some of my thoughts.

Nadia coming back to Days is just a rumor. SOD had it in their rumor section. They probably got it from the Internet. Some Phillip lover who doesn't want him with Belle probably made it up.

Thank God. Drake Hogestyn is the man! He is like a soap god with his eyebrow and hammy delivery. I can watch him forever. He's like Willam Shatner or Susan Lucci, he's just that good. People criticize his acting ability, but his acting ability is entirely missing the point. He's a ham, he's camp, he's charisma, he's screen presence...he doesn't need acting ability. There is literally no ridiculous line of dialogue DH can't sell.

Good point. Actually thats an excellent point. Drake is a hammy actor, but he's always been perfect for Days. When I think Days I think three things: Supercouples, Deidre Hall and Drake. The latter two aren't my personal favorite things about Days, but they are almost like ambassadors for our fragile soap.

HOWEVER, I can't say I can stand up and cheer for some of his comments in the mags. Like "I've never been on a show spirialing out of control..." speaking of Days in his abscence. REALLY?? Cause I kinda thought it started spiraling out of control in 2004 or so... and it has spiraled before. Honestly, I think Days started to sink in 1999. Thats when something started to feel missing.

I really thought it was spiraling during "Alex North", and I do know he was front and center during that mess. So, though I think he is an important part of this iconic show, I don't think Days needs him nearly as much as some may think. Days was around a very long time before he ever graced the screen, and I dare say it will remain around in some form no matter who stays or goes. I'm not dissing Drake. He has been very loyal and has invested a lot of time and effort into John Black. It's just not fair for anyone to put too much emphasis on one or two actors when a soap is truly and ensemble.

BTW: even though it was hard for Drake when John was in his very long coma, many have been sidelined while he enjoyed the center stage. He has been front and center almost since the day they unraveled his bandages. No actor likes an extended vacation, but Days has been good to Drake, and it's not like they have given him massive amounts of time off during the last twenty or so years.

I do agree that he should have his time on the backburner. His own leading lady has had several turns on the backburner there while he stayed front and center (I stopped counting - I don't bother watching his scenes when Deidre/Marlena's not on). My problem with it is the way they did it, when they did it and how they spoke about it.

Deidre is absolutely the stronger end of that supercouple. There is no arguing that. Deidre is an icon in her own right, and Drakes instantaneous pairing with her when he joined that show made him an instant star.

Drake owes Dee a lot. I don't think Drake would have been nearly as well recieved and loved has Deidre not been in the equation.

I still believe the downfall of DAYS (which ultimately killed PASS since it's the lead-in) was the decision to change the SSK story because of "fan outcry" at the deaths. It's so clear that the revised storyline was whipped up on the fly. It's a shame because, whether you liked it or not, it brought a ton of non-soap media publicity to the show, the ratings shot up and then wham, a lame cliched resolution. On top of it, DAYS never can do another type of serial killer storyline, which they were actually good at doing because noone would ever believe the characters were dead. I was a fan in throughout the 80s, sometimes in the 90s, but I was brought back by this story because it seemed so brazen and when Marlena was revealed. It did have that wow factor. My point is that DAYS needs to do something to get on stable ground to be in good shape during the next year, so that one of the other networks wants it. Who knows, SOAPnet may grab it on some level. That would be a coup for them. I wish them all the luck with the changes. DAYS has a huge fanbase out there and when the stories are good they come back in droves. (It's still one of the TOP 25 on TiVO among ALL programs.) The audience is there, now give them something good (great) to watch!

^I have always whole heartedly believed that their intention was never to bring back all those character and if they hadn't of killed Alice and made a lot of people upset the rest very well would of stayed dead. I also don't think there was ever a clear cut way the story was gonna go. JER was making it up as he went. I also believe that even if those ppl hadn't come back from the dead the show would still be sitting where it is at. The storyline put another nail in the DAYS does crazy wacky storylines that make no sense and produce sterotypes of all soaps coffin.
