Sotty was played by Douglas Emerson. I still remember the episode. He was twirling the gun around & it went off.

If I remember correctly Scotty was upset by the fact that David was being accepted into the "core group" while he wasn't. He felt like he was losing his best friend and as a way to get an in with the crew he threw a party, a halloween one if I remember right. He was fooling around with his dad's gun and it went off, thus killing him.
