I have a dumb question.

What made Melrose place a spinoff for 90210? I simply can't recall what connected the two shows (other than Spelling).

90210's Kelly Taylor started dating Melrose's Jake Hanson. She, Donna and David (I believe) went on a double date with Jake. By the end of Melrose's first episode, Kelly and Jake realized that they aren't good for each other and parted seperate ways.

the 90210 gang lasted for the first 3 episodes on MP. It was a very loose spinoff but it still was one
