Black Donnellys, 7th Heaven, Wedding Bells, Six Degrees Cancelled

By James Hibberd

Networks are getting itchy trigger fingers.

In rapid succession, a flurry of struggling shows are being yanked from the schedule.

NBC's The Black Donnellys, The CW's 7th Heaven, Fox's Wedding Bells and ABC's Six Degrees have either been pulled off the air or ceased production early this week as networks reconfigure their schedules for May sweeps.

  • The David E. Kelley's dramedy The Wedding Bells has ceased production, but the network plans to air three more episodes. The Friday night drama most recently earned a mere 1.4 rating among adults 18 to 49.
  • ABC pulled Six Degrees last fall, then brought back the show as a March addition to Friday nights. Its last airing earned a 1.1 rating. Repeats of Wife Swap will air in its place.
  • NBC's mob drama Black Donnellys filled a Monday night hole vacated by Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and has bled viewers nearly ever airing. Last night's episode earned a 2.0 rating. Donnellys will be replaced by the reality series The Wedding Crashers.
  • The CW's 7th Heaven will finish its final season, with a finale to air May 13, but will not return this fall.

by ceased production, I hope they'll atleast let 7th Heaven finish its season. \Even though I've hated that show, and Everwood would still be alive and kicking if not for it, it would be stupid for it to end abruptly.

7th Heaven should've been gone a long time ago.

I saw a preview today and RUTHIE wants to get married?! What the F-U-C-K?!?!

It would be cruel not to just give 'em another big finale -- AGAIN.

Hasn't the whole season been a finale? (wheeze! wheeze! I can't walk so fast! Come to my house for spaghetti! My wife isn't home)... oh wait, sounds like gay male porn. Daddy-type gets hookup with 18 year old homeless twink.

And then there's those "Village of the Damned" twins - except they're retarded, just listen to them speak.

And how old is HAPPY now?

they don't need another 2 hour send off. They got it last year, and frankly, they don't deserve it based on their performance this year. Wrap up stories, one hour episode, have them move away or something.

Sad to see Black Donnellys go, I enjoyed that show (except for the narration).

On a GREAT note....i heard this morning that 30 Rock got picked up for next season! Soooo happy about that!

They don't have to have a two-hour sendoff. Although I disagree that it was two hours last year. Was it really? If so, I am terribly shocked! I watched it even and didn't realize that.

But let's be honest, folks. The question isn't whether the show will be given a finale. I think The CW would do that, especially with all the fanfare they gave, initially, to the "unprecedented" 11th season. Plus it is, whether you like it or not, a television phenomenon. Once TV Guide's "best show you're not watching." (second season, I believe).

It deserves a finale.

But I digress.

The REAL question is: will Jessica Beal and that What About Brian guy come back for THIS finale?!!!

how is the show having 11 seasons unprecedented?

I didn't make it up, Drew. CW did.

But to answer your question, I think it's because the show was canceled. So that was the promotion gimmick.

Awww Six Degrees was actually getting good! I love any shows about NYC, except for CSI:NY!

And some of the writers were great. I hope they'll find some other show to write for.

I bet "7th Heaven" knew this was coming. Tonights' episode (watching it now) was ALL about "signs" of death and doom. That black bird was FREAKY!!! OMG, I bet they really are going to kill the Rev. for the finale. That black bird is NOT a good sign. It was bad seeing him appear to Eric, but even worse when he ended up on Lucy and Kevin's door step. That is just BAD.
