I think he was great as apart of the writing team of Guiding Light in the early 90's, with the fabulous Lorraine Broderick. However, I've always hated him a sole head-writer. It's primarily because of him Days lost so much credibility and became quite cartoonish to many critics and longtime fans in the 90's. Added to this, Passions has never been a show of consistent quality and that's primarily because of him. I won't even go into his last massacre, I mean tenure as head-writer on Days. It's also because of him Days has lost a big part of it's fan-base, which it has yet to fully regain.

Even though Days enjoyed immense popularity in the 90's because of Reilly, it's reputation suffered tremendously and it wasn't considered on par quality-wise with its rivals.

I'll admit that his writing isn't as great as it once was, but I still enjoy him more than any other writer. He's so creative. Plus, I think one mistake is that JER did so great in his first run that in his second run/the creation of Passions NBC and Corday pretty much let him do what he wanted and din't give him any orders of what to write really.

The problem with that theory, psychofan, is that as creator/owner/whatever of PASSIONS, JER should pretty much have free reign over there. And yet, if you ask most people, they'll tell you the writing on the show right now sucks. That's why I simply don't buy the whole 'control' argument.

That he did. DAYS was A-FRICKEN-MAZING in the 90s under JER. And early PASSIONS was extremely good too. But somewhere around 2002, JER started losing his touch, and it's just gotten worse over time.
