OLTL: The Best Actresses as of NOW

You know me and my crazy threads. We haven't done this in several months, but it's always interesting to see how things change, especially now that Heather Tom is gone. Rank the contract actresses on OLTL from least talented to most talented. They are Kristen Alderson, Melissa Archer, Kathy Brier, Christina Chambers, Kassie DePaiva, Melissa Gallo, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Catherine Hickland, Alexandra O'Neil, Erika Slezak, Hillary B. Smith, Robin Strasser, Tika Sumpter, and Bree Williamson. I know it's hard, but let's try to go on acting alone, not love of character, which would probably make for a slightly different list.

My list:

14. Melissa Gallo (Adriana)

13. Tika Sumpter (Layla)

12. Alexandra O'Neil (Paige)

11. Christina Chambers (Marty)

10. Melissa Archer (Natalie)

9. Kathy Brier (Marcy)

8. Kristen Alderson (Starr)

7. Renee Elise Goldsberry (Evangeline)

6. Bree Williamson (Jessica)

5. Catherine Hickland (Lindsay)

4. Robin Strasser (Dorian)

3. Kassie DePaiva (Blair)

2. Hillary B. Smith (Nora)

1. Erika Slezak (Viki)

I hesitate to put Alderson ahead of Brier, but the kid is so far ahead of most of her generation. I almost put Kassie ahead of Hillary: that is probably my toughest battle. In the past, I would have had the incomparable Strasser right behind Slezak, but lately I see more shading in DePaiva's and Smith's work. Smith can also go OTT, such as when she tore into Paige before her stroke, but I like that sort of hammy acting; love it, in fact! My top 5 are basically the best actresses in the business as far as I'm concerned. Slezak is #1 easily, because I think she's the most multi-faceted in the history of daytime (yes, I know Flannery fans will disagree). I can't wait to see other lists!

Renee Goldsberry has lost a lot of points with me. O'Neil gets points from her other work too. She is truly a great actress, and one of OLTL's most wasted talents. She is alot more deserving of the boring stuff they give her.

I decided to go by who has had material to do. Hillary, Catherine, and Erika didn't rank as high on my list as they did on some others because they just haven't been featured enough.

I have to say no one beats Erika Slezak in daytime because the woman can do it all from excrutiating drama and pain, to humor, romance, fun, heartbreak, there is nothing the woman can't do and she is really #1 in daytime. OLTL is lucky as hell to have Slezak on their show, which kills me that they misuse her so much.

I agree that Erika Slezak is the best in daytime, there is no competition. OL is lucky to have her, now USE Erika!

Before I get into my selections I have to say this was difficult. With three powerhouse best actress emmy winners Slezak, Strasser and Smith it is hard to choose because they are consisent home run hitters so you come to expect it. Yet the next generation has to have an opportunity to lead and showcase their talent and Brier and DePaiva can hang with any of the heavy hitters on any given day. Yet I have to admit, Robin and Erica have taught the younger heroines very well because few actresses under 25 can touch the sheer talent and execution of Alderson why she hasn't won an emmy is beyond me and TPTB she see from Williamson that is how to recast a beloved character we grew up loving, she is totally phenominal and I rarely miss Torpey. Yet there are the true talents like Hickland who can deliver what is needed to flesh out the story as can ROXI who is not listed. Goldsberry, however will be the emmy front runner and I am not feeling her as much as I have in the pass, but she has what it takes and will get the emmy votes. With that said, as much as I love Strasser and the can rarely do wrong Slezak with her 6 emmies, I am crowning the next generation queen of Lanview. DePavia will be the future of the show as she and Star move to the forefront of the plots as the central heroines of the main families. I am sure Williamson will get better as her legacy is also written in the scripts.

My list:

14. Alexandra O'neal (Paige)

13. Melissa Gallo (Adriana)

12. Tika Sumpter (Layla)

11. Melissa Archer (Natalie)

10. Christina Chambers (Marty)

9. Catherine Hickland (Lindsay)

8. Renee Elise Goldsberry (Evangeline)

7. Kristen Alderson (Starr)

6. Hillary B. Smith (Nora)

5. Bree Williamson (Jessica)

4. Kathy Brier (Marcy)

3. Robin Strasser (Dorian)

2. Erika Slezak (Viki)

1. Kassie DePaiva (Blair)

    • Dallas peaked early, IMO. Maybe not a fair statement as I’m still making my way through the first half of its run, but I think it’s hard to argue to point that S3 into S4 was its high point. Back to Knots. Wrapping up “And Never Brought to Mind.” Greg’s introduction kinda took me by surprise. I low-key dreaded his arrival bc I know he very quickly gets to the center of the show, but even though they wasted no time connecting him with Mac, Abby, Gary, and Karen, it still feels like a gradual intro. The juxtaposition of the ending of the Chip story with the heating up Abby’s plotting is quite symbolic of the changes the show was going through. I absolutely cannot imagine Kenny and Ginger having any part in any of this. Yall, the Gary/Val piano theme that they pull out from time to time is my FAVORITE. I find myself humming it constantly.
    • Bloodshed is inevitable now. It’s another reason I’m glad Black people aren’t getting involved in these protests. As awful as this is, I keep reminding myself that 54 percent of Latino men voted for Trump. These people were put in harm’s way by members of their own communities and sometimes even members of their own families. Too many people decided to touch the stove.
    • Maybe I'm still in denial, but nothing about Neighbours' ongoing social media output gives the vibe of a show that's ending. In today's 'Roundup' video, Alan Fletcher referenced that production finishes in five weeks, but in all the show's posts the cast are as jovial and lighthearted as ever. Remarkably so for people who are about to lose their jobs.    Perhaps they're just putting a brave face on things, and I know they approached the previous axing with a positive attitude. Maybe putting an upbeat face on things is a collective way of showing potential backers that there's still life in the show? Or is it possible that they already know the show has been saved, and we'll get an announcement next month when filming wraps and the show 'rests'?   Does any of that make sense?!
    • A very good week for male eye candy on GH. New Michael is beautiful, Curtis's arms looked great in that polo shirt, Cody looks even more handsome with his new haircut AND we got Marco in swim shorts rocking his lovely bod and chest fur.

    • Yeah when Jamey Giddens did breakdowns for DAYS, he would sometimes state in tweets that specific things were his idea that he had pitched to Ron.
    • I don't, since they've clearly incorporated them into Tomas' storyline, and I happen to like his tattoos, but his jackets not fitting doesn't mean they're trying to cover his tattoos. The clothing overall isn't the issue; it's the fit. And I expect(ed) more from Jeresa Featherstone and her team. Very disappointed. He's the only male, overall, whose costume irritates me.
    • "And OMG, watching the scenes of Roger's return in comparison...the quality in the writing really nosedived. The stupid mask." Very much agreed.  Having Roger hide behind a mask for weeks/months, with it culminating with him swinging in on a vine at Blake/Phillip's wedding....geez.  So juvenile. IMO, Guiding Light never did a good job reintroducing major characters, either from the dead or elsewhere.  Masked balls = awful.  Amish = awful. When Reva was brought back from the dead, she should've just showed up in Springfield as Reva, and informed everyone that she had been gone for years because she felt like it.  She had a four-year fling with some dude who ended up dumping her due to disloyalty. Josh would be pissed and declare that their love is not *always* but *sometimes* and he'd act accordingly.  Her kids would hate her.
    • Agreed. The Emmys next year are gonna be a pretty tough competition and I hope we get a Days sweep lol  Not only does Deidre deserve a nomination for these last few weeks, but I also think Paul Telfer, Raven Bowens, Carson Boatman, Dan Feuerriegel and Alison Sweeney have good chances as well.
    • It’s not about a lack of faith and trust in MVJ, it’s about a a lack of faith and trust in Ron Carlivati, who I think can be very sneaky and manipulative when he wants to be.  And, all that “He’s just a breakdown writer” talk never changed my mind about anything, because at Days, it was “just a breakdown writer” that gave us some of the worst episodes I’ve ever seen.
